Chapter 1460: Chapter 568: What’s It Like to Have a Cat at Home That Loves Watching TV? Five-Spice Smoked Chicken! [Subscription Request]
"Dundun, what are you up to?"
Six thirty in the morning, Lin Xu got up, washed up, and came outside. He saw Dundun dragging his little blanket downstairs, so he asked curiously.
He walked over, bent down to pick up the blanket, and Dundun immediately turned and ran downstairs.
Every few steps he’d deliberately twist his head back to check, afraid Lin Xu wasn’t following.
What’s going on here?
Is this little guy carrying his blanket to find a new place to sleep?
Lin Xu went downstairs with the blanket and only then noticed the TV was on, still playing Tom and Jerry, with ten or twenty more episodes than when he’d turned it off last night.
This...
Lin Xu put the blanket on the couch, just about to interrogate the culprit who’d been secretly watching TV in the middle of the night.
He saw the little guy leap onto the couch, roll himself up in the blanket he was holding, wrap himself up tight, and continue watching TV.
"Since when did you become a TV addict?"
Lin Xu was a little puzzled, but since the cat liked watching, he could let him. The TV at home barely got turned on except for games anyway; letting it run from time to time was good, better than leaving it off too long and having it break.
But lying in front of the TV like that all the time, wouldn’t it be bad for his eyes?
"Walk around and play for a bit later, don’t just watch TV all the time."
"Miaoo~~~~~"
The little guy meowed impatiently, clearly not wanting to hear Dad’s nagging.
Lin Xu didn’t lecture him any further, instead he went upstairs and walked into Dundun’s room.
The room was a bit messy. On top of the Cat Castle lay two tablets, one bought for him by Shu Yun, and the other a long-battery-life version bought by Shen Jiayue.
Usually the two of them would help the little guy charge them once a week, making sure he could play whenever he wanted.
But unexpectedly, both tablets were already dead, which meant these past few days he’d been up all night playing on the tablets instead of sleeping.
Seeing this, Lin Xu suddenly understood why parents get so furious when they catch their kids secretly playing on computers and phones at midnight.
But then again, he wasn’t expecting Dundun to get into college, nor was he planning to make him compete with other people’s kids.
If he wanted to watch TV, he could; at worst it was just a bit more on the electric bill.
He wondered how the fans online would feel if they found out their favorite cat was this obsessed with Tom and Jerry—would they mass-unfollow him like a disgraced idol?
Lin Xu plugged both tablets into their chargers, then went downstairs, washed his hands, and started making breakfast.
He’d eaten a bunch of popcorn last night, so his throat was a bit dry. Using an earthen pot, he cooked some rice porridge, and soaked a chunk of white fungus, preparing a few pieces of crystal sugar.
When the porridge was almost done, he tore up the white fungus and tossed it in, then added the crystal sugar.
Just like that, a delicious, lung-soothing white fungus and crystal sugar porridge was ready.
Besides the porridge, he made a dough, chopped up the beef he’d brought home after work yesterday, beat it with scallion and ginger water until it had a good spring, then washed some yellow chives and mixed them in, making a yellow chive and beef filling.
He planned to use this filling to make some pan-fried dumplings, so they’d have porridge plus a staple, with beef and yellow chives—enough nutrition and calories to carry through the whole morning.
Once he finished all that, he’d have to go to the shop and get busy with today’s work.
Redeeming Olfactory Enhancement had completely emptied Lin Xu’s points. Even though he could now earn quite a lot of points each day, reaching a level of several million would still take time.
Since he couldn’t redeem any training tasks for the time being, Lin Xu had to try to do as much hands-on work as possible.
Once the dough had relaxed, he tore off little pieces, rolled them into dough balls, then rolled them out into wrappers a bit bigger than regular dumpling skins, and started wrapping the filling.
They have pan-fried dumplings everywhere, with slightly different methods—some are open-ended, some are closed—but there’s a common core: they all use unleavened dough and are shaped like dumplings or close to dumplings.
After wrapping the dumplings, he left the kitchen again and found Dundun already asleep on the couch.
Lin Xu walked over, picked up the remote, and had barely turned off the TV when the cat’s eyes popped open and he let out a disgruntled little grunt.
"If you’re tired, just sleep, don’t force yourself. Your grandpa found a Jade Sculpture Master, and in a couple of days we’re going to have them carve a statue based on you. When the time comes you can’t be all listless like this."
When a cat’s out of it, his eyes are just slits and he’s indifferent to everything—either sprawled out asleep or zoning out.
When he’s full of energy, his big eyes are bright and focused, curious about everything.
Lin Xu definitely didn’t want the little guy to be carved with squinty eyes, so he made a point of reminding him.
As soon as Dundun heard, he tilted his head and promptly started snoring away, and even kicked the TV remote off to the side.
"Whoa, the moment you heard we’re making a statue of you, you’re quitting TV already?"
Lin Xu tucked the blanket around him and propped a cushion at the edge of the couch to keep him from rolling off in his sleep.
Just as he finished serving the little baby, a lazy voice came from the staircase:
"Xu-bao, what’s for breakfast today?"
"Pan-fried dumplings with white fungus porridge. Since you’re up, I’ll start cooking now."
The method for pan-fried dumplings is simple: line the wrapped dumplings in a flat-bottomed pan, pour in the flour slurry, drizzle a layer of hot peanut oil, then pan-fry over medium heat until it’s sizzling away in the pan, and they’re ready to come out.
The finished pan-fried dumplings are tender and juicy, with a crispy crust on the bottom—both fragrant and crunchy.
Paired with some pickles and little fermented side dishes, it’s pretty much the ultimate treat.
While they were eating, Lin Xu mentioned Dundun secretly watching TV at night, leaving Shen Jiayue utterly stunned. She couldn’t help turning to look at the chubby cat snoring away on the living room couch.
