Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Little Fox’s Special Treatment

The Little Fox pouted coquettishly. "I should have just laid on top of you without asking. Would Zhengran really have the heart to hit me?"

Lin Zhengran rewarded her with a flick to the forehead.

The Little Fox let out an obliging, "Ah!"

It didn’t hurt, but that didn’t stop her from pressing her face against his arm in grievance, clutching her forehead. "It hurts so much~"

"Stop faking it. I barely used any force."

She peeked out with one eye. "Even if you didn’t use any force, I still have to cry out in pain. Otherwise, how would Zhengran ever feel sorry for me? It hurts~"

Lin Zhengran was already used to her cheeky banter. He simply scoffed and didn’t say another word.

After that, Han Wenwen obediently used her arms as a pillow and rested her head on the desk. Her non-existent nine fox tails seemed to sway gently, with some curling around Lin Zhengran’s thigh. She quietly studied the side of his face as he wrote.

Of course, before school ended, Han Wenwen still had to let Qingqing know. Otherwise, this secret rendezvous would be exposed.

"Qingqing, it looks like the afternoon rehearsal is going to take a long time. You and Lili should go eat first. Don’t wait for us. I’ll help you keep a close eye on Lin Tongxue; I absolutely won’t let any other girls get close to him."

Hearing that they wouldn’t be able to have dinner together, Xiao Heqing nodded. "Thanks for your hard work, Wenwen. I’ll be cheering for you from the audience tomorrow during the performance."

Han Wenwen linked arms with Xiao Heqing. "Thank you, Qingqing."

Hearing their conversation, Jiang Xueli walked over and asked, "By the way, is that guy really performing with a girl named Jiang Qian?"

Han Wenwen hummed in agreement. "I heard it was arranged by the school. Originally, they were supposed to perform separately, but later the teacher thought a piano duet would be better, so they paired them up."

When Jiang Xueli and Xiao Heqing first heard about the piano duet, they had been quite surprised. They had never once heard about him being able to play the piano.

Jiang Xueli sighed. "It feels like he has so many secrets. I don’t even feel like his childhood friend anymore."

Xiao Heqing nodded as well. However, she had been away from Lin Zhengran for several years, so she felt it was perfectly normal not to know everything about him.

Han Wenwen checked the time and figured she should get going. "Then I’ll head back to the practice room for rehearsal. Goodbye, Qingqing, Lili! I’m off!" She waved goodbye, and Jiang Xueli and He Qing waved back.

But as she watched the Little Fox’s departing figure, Jiang Xueli shrank her neck back and shivered, trying to rub away the goosebumps on her arms. "Even though it’s been half a month, I’m still not used to her calling me Lili..."

Jiang Xueli and Xiao Heqing exchanged a glance and suddenly burst into smiles. Although they were romantic rivals who had fought a great war, after spending so much time together, a certain camaraderie had blossomed between them. Putting their rivalry aside, they could actually be considered good friends.

Xiao Heqing took the initiative, speaking in her soft, sweet voice. "Then let’s have dinner together tonight."

Jiang Xueli smiled and nodded slowly. "Yeah, let’s."

Back in the performance practice room, when dinner time rolled around, everyone began heading to the cafeteria. Han Wenwen, however, returned to Lin Zhengran’s side and asked if he had finished writing his speech.

Lin Zhengran hummed in affirmation, putting the speech away as he stood up. "I’ve written a simple draft. Nobody really cares about this kind of speech anyway, so as long as it gets the general point across, it’s fine."

Han Wenwen stood on her tiptoes, reaching out to fix Lin Zhengran’s hair, smoothing down a stray strand on the top of his head. "That’s not necessarily true. At the very least, when Zhengran gives his speech, I will definitely listen to every single word. I support Zhengran unconditionally in everything."

Lin Zhengran walked with her toward the school gates. There weren’t many students around the entrance. Han Wenwen asked curiously, "By the way, how are we going to get out? The school doesn’t let boarding students leave at night, right?"

Lin Zhengran walked smoothly up to the gate, greeted the security guard, and took out a pass. "Sir, I’m heading out to buy something."

The security guard opened the gate for them. "It’s Lin Tongxue again. Go on ahead."

Lin Zhengran put away the pass. "Thank you, sir."

Han Wenwen hadn’t expected it to be so easy. "What kind of pass is that? Where did you get it?"

Lin Zhengran looked at the Little Fox’s shocked expression. "I asked the homeroom teacher for it. I said I’d need to go out from time to time to buy things for the performance, and the teacher just gave it to me."

He waited a moment but didn’t say anything else.

"It was that simple?" The Little Fox couldn’t understand.

Lin Zhengran thought, "The Charm granted by the system is already very effective. No matter who I talk to, as long as my request is reasonable, they will generally agree." Plus, there was the most important factor—he had good grades.

"How else would it be? Naturally, teachers feel at ease when a student with good grades makes a request. But if a mischievous student asked for it, they probably wouldn’t get it. And even if they did, the pass might be confiscated immediately because the teachers would worry they were going out to do other things."

Han Wenwen suddenly smiled, letting out a little hum as she tilted her head. "So Zhengran, as a good student, is still secretly taking a girl out to buy food?"

"Then how about I take you back to the cafeteria right now?"

Han Wenwen clutched her lower abdomen. "No! Zhengran promised me. My stomach hurts~"

"If you’re going to fake it, at least make it look convincing. Is your stomach located way down there?"

Han Wenwen then moved her hand up to her chest.

Lin Zhengran sighed. "That’s your heart. Your stomach is in the middle-lower area."

"Zhengran really knows everything."

The two of them walked to a snack street two blocks away from the school. The incredibly long street was filled with a dazzling array of food stalls and was quite bustling. Many residents from the nearby neighborhoods were strolling through—men and women, young and old. There was also a large entertainment plaza right next to it.

The Little Fox was extremely excited upon seeing it. "I had no idea there was a street like this outside the school! We can come here to hang out on weekends when we have time." After saying that, she realized something. "By the way, how did Zhengran know there was a snack street here? I’ve never even heard of it."

Lin Zhengran answered casually, "A senior girl invited me to hang out here before. I turned her down, but that’s how I found out about it."

The Little Fox stared at him jealously and muttered in a low voice, "I should have known a girl told you. I shouldn’t have even asked..."

The two of them walked into the snack street. However, because it was so crowded, the Little Fox couldn’t even get close enough to some of the stalls to see what the food looked like. She even nearly got bumped into when approaching one.

Seeing how reckless she was, Lin Zhengran reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her from being jostled by the crowd. "Be careful."

Han Wenwen looked at Lin Zhengran’s hand holding her arm and smiled, seizing the opportunity. "Thank you, Zhengran. But since there are so many people here, why don’t I just link arms with you? Otherwise, we might get separated."

Lin Zhengran looked at the dense crowd and thought, "There really are too many people here." And since it wasn’t the first time they had linked arms anyway, he agreed.

Seeing him nod, the Little Fox happily and eagerly hooked her arm through his, raising a small fist. "Thank you, Zhengran! Let’s go, let’s go! I want to eat a chicken cutlet!"

"There seems to be a stall up ahead. Let’s go take a look."

They walked a few steps and arrived in front of the chicken cutlet stall. The vendor asked out of habit, "How many portions for the handsome guy and pretty lady?"

Han Wenwen held up two fingers. "Two."

Seeing the pair walking arm-in-arm, the vendor pointed to a new item on the side. "This is a new item we just added to the menu. Couple’s Chicken Frames, two for fifteen yuan. Do you want to try it?"

Han Wenwen didn’t hesitate at all. "We’ll take an order!"

Lin Zhengran recalled what had happened during the New Year. "We just started looking around. Let’s buy a little less, or we won’t be able to finish it all."

Han Wenwen pursed her lips. "But it’s a new item. Plus, chicken frames barely have any meat on them. Let’s buy it, please, please~"

The vendor chuckled. "Don’t worry, young man. These chicken frames of mine are delicious. Buy one for your girlfriend to try."

Hearing a certain keyword, the Little Fox’s expression shifted slightly. She looked up at Lin Zhengran and drew out her words slowly, "Let’s buy it~"

Lin Zhengran looked at her deliberate pout. "Then go ahead and buy it. As long as you can actually eat it all, it’s fine."

Han Wenwen’s eyes widened in delight. She thought, "Zhengran didn’t deny it when the vendor called me his girlfriend!" Biting her lip shyly, she said, "Thank you, Zhengran~" Her grip on his arm tightened just a bit more.

The vendor handed the freshly prepared food to the two of them. Han Wenwen gazed into the distance. "I also want to eat chicken cartilage, chicken wings, drumsticks~ And..."

Lin Zhengran stuffed a piece of chicken cutlet into her mouth. "You call this a stomachache? Seems to me like your appetite is perfectly fine."
