Chapter 62: The last Altar (4)

Lucy stood face-to-face with a young woman, who didn’t look too out of the ordinary, except for her missing pupils, as her white eyes were directly staring at her.

Still recovering from the shock of the thousand of eyes that simply disappeared completely, Lucy felt utter confusion.

Where had this girl come from? And why was she even here? This place was the fighting ground of the diamond students and, until recently, even guarded by a diamond-class monster.

"Hey, are you there? You should go quickly before something bad happens..." But before she could even finish, a voice spoke directly in her head.

"Oh, a diamond student... you’re going to be so much fun to break into pieces." Followed by a menacing laughter that felt like it was directly trying to break her mind.

As the young women seemingly tried to cast a wind blade, nothing happened. Her real voice finally revealed. "Oh yes, I have forgotten this body was still imperfect."

Instead, the wall of golden eyes formed once again in front of her, nearly scaring her to death. Lucy jumped back defensively as Lumiel placed himself next to her.

"Do you know her, Lucy?" Lumiel asked, already casting a ring of fire around them, probably feeling the danger too.

"I have no idea, but she doesn’t seem to be up to anything good," she answered, watching the golden eyes disappear once more.

Suddenly one of the empty pupils was replaced on the girl’s face with a golden one. ’’I will have to crush you in some other way then.’’

With a wave of nausea crashing over her, Lucy nearly fell to her legs, if not for the magic ring. Lumiel instead just crashed straight to the ground, completely knocked out.

As she could finally feel the girls’ mana surrounding all of them, a pitch-black mana nearly strong enough to block her sight and just as terrifying.

Grabbing Lumiel by his shirt, she leaped backwards next to Edward, who barely had reapplied June’s legs to her body.

"Don’t run away, little girl; I promise you I am going to kill you slowly." As her enemy disappeared from her sight.

Reappearing behind her with uncatchable speed, no, it almost seemed like she had teleported there.

Wanting to duck down and evade the attack, she had been a bit too slow, as Edward had to intervene, catching the girl’s arm with a chain of light.

’’Very interesting, you people are truly worth being crushed by Calostie of the Fingers.’’ She yelled as her voice seemed to cut away at Lucy’s mind.

A finger? Like the group Fingers? No, that can’t be; one like her could never arrive on the school grounds without being caught.

As Lucy could watch Edwards’ hands move unnaturally, bending until she could hear something break. Edward didn’t seem to have any protection against mind hex either with him.

As his pained scream filled the church, breaking his usual cold demeanor for the first time since arriving in school.

With the two boys down and June still recovering, Lucy was the only one standing in the way of the finger.

Just then were Steven and Merency, or even the teachers, but Calostie seemed to have read her mind as she spoke once more. "Don’t expect any help arriving soon."

As she stepped closer to Lucy, menacingly pointing towards her missing pupil. "Your teachers are sadly busy fighting one of their own, but don’t worry, I will kill you before they will ever find out I was here."

As another wave of nausea overcame her body much stronger than the last, as her body began shaking, she watched her ring slowly starting to glow.

Until it finally couldn’t take it anymore, splintering into pieces on her hand, cutting her arm open. As Calostie’s golden eye disappeared once more.

With her thoughts slipping away, she had to do it; she had to remove the seal placed on her by her father for her mission.

It didn’t matter if her cover got blown; survival was more important. Just as she was about to force it off her, a warming light shone down on her body.

How was that possible? She was inside a building, and it was also night on top, but with power flooding her body, she managed to open her eyes.

Standing at the entrance, which should be only coated in darkness, was something that looked more like a star, a woman in a red dress wearing a witch hat.

It was Merency, but something was genuinely wrong with her; not only her mana, but also her presence and her stance were completely different.

This girl just couldn’t be the same girl as before, seriously.

But well, right now that didn’t matter, as Lucy finally found the strength to stare back at the finger, who seemed just as confused as she did.

’’Didn’t I watch her die just a moment ago? "Calostie," she asked, her voice not even in the slightest worried. "Well, I will make sure she does this time."

As she disappeared once more, she appeared next to Merency, her hand already swinging at her.

But before she could land her hit, somebody grabbed Calostie by her arm.

As Lumiel had risen from the ground smiling.

’’Hey dumb fucker, let me show you how to deal with real brain damage.’’ As Lumiel’s fist collided with the fingerhead, sending her flying and breaking the church’s wall apart.

Even June and Edward rose from the ground, their wounds having disappeared completely.

If it’s going to continue this way, they might actually stand a chance against the finger until help arrives.

But of course nothing could ever go as planned, as Calostie stepped through the broken wall, her body completely unharmed by the attack.

As she only stared at Merency with her empty eyes, "So I was right; you’re the reason for their sudden power."

"Well, I am going to make it fast then." As one of her eyes turned golden.

Merency moved for the first time since arriving.

As she stepped backwards in fear.
