Chapter 386: Chapter 210: In the Crevice of the Painted Scroll

"The enemy general is dead!" A bloodthirsty smile appeared on Chu Chengfeng’s face. He licked his lower lip, twisted off the deformed head, and held it high.

"Get going! I don’t kill women!"

Xie Yunliu’s eyes widened in fury as he pointed at the woman from the Western Regions, who stood frozen in place, a puddle forming at her feet.

Xiao Buping was middle-aged and had long since grown fat. But his Qinggong was as good as ever; when he flew, he was like a nimble fat man. He was seen stepping from one soldier’s head to the next. With a flick of his fan, countless steel needles shot out. The soldiers who were hit seemed fine at first, but in the blink of an eye, they began to convulse and collapse—the needles were poisoned.

"Mr. Chu, watch out!" Wen Shishan, now a mother, thrust her sword out behind Chu Chengfeng, swatting an arrow out of the air. She snapped at him irritably, "So you killed him, what of it? What are you doing holding up a dead man’s head! You almost got yourself ambushed!"

"What the hell does a woman like you know!" Chu Chengfeng tossed the ruined head aside. "In war, beheading the enemy general crushes their morale!"

"Old Chu has a point!" Xie Yunliu spoke with incredible speed. In the blink of an eye, he had already leaped into the fray, shouting as he cut down his foes, "The enemy’s morale is broken! We can win!"

More and more Knights descended from the sky, plunging into the battlefield.

First, they were hit by a surprise aerial assault. Then, their Leader was killed, leaving the army without a head. Many soldiers were still asleep, only to be beheaded by the raiding Knights and die in their dreams.

But an army of ten thousand was an army of ten thousand. Even in disarray, it would take a great deal of effort to slaughter them all. Chu Chengfeng and Wen Shishan nimbly dodged a volley of wild arrows. They stood back-to-back, and after one charge, the couple’s faces were smeared with the blood of their enemies.

Feeling the warmth of her husband’s back, Wen Shishan caught her breath for a moment, then suddenly smiled. "Mr. Chu, when we get back, I want to give you another child for the Chu Family. Good things should come in pairs."

"We’ll have them!" Chu Chengfeng said viciously. "Have a whole damn litter! If you don’t give me a whole brood, you and I are going to have a problem!"

Chu Chengfeng’s longsword flashed. The tips of their swords met, and a vortex of Sword Qi swept across the plains.

Not far away, Jianghu Bai Xiaosheng pulled out a pair of rusty iron claws. After mauling several men to death, he glanced back and couldn’t help but exclaim, "The long-lost Adulterer and Whore Sword, returned to the Jianghu! What a technique! What a technique! What a technique!"

Elsewhere.

Cheng Xiao walked down the street, stepping over a field of mangled corpses. The terrified soldiers ahead had witnessed his actions firsthand. The rise and fall of his blade, again and again, with hardly a pause. He killed with such casual ease, as if butchering chickens and cows, that it shattered their courage.

On the ground, blood flowed endlessly from the corpses, gathering in rivulets before seeping into the cracks in the earth. Soon, the path behind Cheng Xiao, the path he had just walked, was stained a sinister, dark red.

Cheng Xiao paid no mind to the gory scene. In his eyes, there was only his blade and the people still living.

The soldiers raised their long spears, forming a line. Though they faced only a single man, none of them dared to advance. Shaking, they steadily retreated.

Cheng Xiao gave a faint smile and charged. His blade rose and fell.

The saber in his hand was clearly the one Gongsun Mo had shattered with a palm strike years ago. And yet... the blade was perfectly intact.

...

"WOOOOO—"

From the west, behind the enemy lines, came the urgent blast of a horn.

In the dead of night, a dozen men on War Camels raced toward Richan Valley. The horn had been sounded during the Knights’ aerial assault.

The man in the lead was tall, with long, thick arms. Most peculiar were his arms; they were a full two meters long, dragging behind him and twisting grotesquely. CRACK! The black War Camel beneath him, unable to bear its burden, began to foam at the mouth as it ran before collapsing.

"Useless! Useless! Useless!"

The tall man was thrown from the camel’s back. He roared, lunged forward, opened his gaping maw, and began tearing at the camel’s flesh. His frenzy made him look like a humanoid beast. The squad escorting him had never witnessed such a scene. After a stunned moment, they were so terrified that they deserted on the spot, scattering in all directions while crying for their mothers and fathers, afraid the madman would devour them as well.

After its meal, the War Camel was long dead, its two humps a pitted, bloody mess. The man climbed back onto the camel. Then, something bizarre happened. The War Camel, its eyes a ghastly white, staggered back to its feet. The man squeezed his legs, and his feet sank deep into the camel’s flesh and bone. From a distance, it was as if man and camel had become one.

The man looked up, his eyes pitch-black. He gazed toward the blazing fires in the distance and shot off like a bolt of black lightning, vanishing into the night in an instant.

The surrounding darkness seemed to press in on the man, faster and faster. The War Camel flickered with each step, the forms of man and beast blinking in and out of existence, appearing illusory and unreal.

...

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

In Richan Valley, the wind howled. Looking out toward the Great Desert, a black tornado stood like a dark wall connecting Heaven and Earth. The mere sight of it projected an unrivaled, destructive Intimidation.

After the Knights broke out, the hundred soldiers Xie Yunliu brought with him charged, seizing the momentum. Caught in a pincer attack from within and without, the Western Regions army fell into utter chaos and was routed. An hour had now passed. The thick stench of blood drifted from the battlefield, along with screams, shouts, the clash of blades, cries, roars, and laughter... all of it blending into one hollow melody.

Xie Luohe squatted on the ground in agony, pressing her hands hard against her ears.

Zheng Xiu had just caught his breath when he turned and saw the Madam in such agony. Rushing over, he saw that black blood was trickling from both of Xie Luohe’s ears. Her eyes were squeezed shut, and her entire body was trembling violently.
