Chapter 473: Chapter 415: Chaisi: Son

Han Liuyue had sped off with the resident’s brain, but that didn’t mean the fight was over.

Chaisi gasped for breath, his panting forming white clouds that dissipated into the damp, cold, and dark December night.

This night had been far too long.

He couldn’t wait to get back into a car, to return to the shelter of an interior safe from the downpour, to peel off the wet clothes clinging to his skin and brew a cup of hot coffee...

...and to finally let out the sigh of relief that would come from knowing Uncle Kai and Aunt Hai were safe.

But before Chaisi could go home, this resident had to be erased from the world of the living.

Chaisi wiped the water from his face, his eyes fixed on the resident swaying unsteadily nearby. He gripped his T-bar once more.

Not only did it know its brain had driven away, and in which direction, it even knew the fastest, most efficient way to give chase. The moment Han Liuyue had left, Chaisi turned his head to find the resident scrambling into the Morgan Family’s SUV on all eight limbs.

’...Is this thing planning to chase her by car?’

’For a resident, it’s pretty good at using worldly conveniences.’

Chaisi quickly circled to the other side of the SUV and opened the passenger door. He watched as the headless resident struggled to climb inside, dragging the driver’s corpse with it.

The driver’s seat was only meant for one. With its ’family’ in tow, the resident found it difficult to get in and get settled. The driver’s corpse THUDDED against the car frame several times without getting in, and at one point, its dead weight actually pulled the resident back out of the vehicle.

It wasn’t every day you saw a sight like this, so Chaisi stayed put and enjoyed the show for a moment.

The resident finally devised a solution. It heaved one side of its rear onto the seat, then, like flicking a ponytail, flung the driver’s corpse into the back. Just as it settled in—that was when Chaisi reached over and plucked the keys from the ignition.

He pocketed the keys, watching as the headless resident began to thrash about in a blind panic.

It fumbled all over the car—high, low, left, and right—but couldn’t find the keys to start the engine. With every passing moment, its brain got farther away. Its movements grew more frantic and enraged, the force behind its flailing heavier. After just a few swings, it had beaten the bodyguard’s corpse in the car until the flesh blossomed like a flower.

Chaisi considered this for a moment, then retreated.

The resident finally lost its patience. With a sudden whip of its arm, it shattered the entire windshield into a rain of silver fragments. If Chaisi hadn’t sensed the danger and moved away sooner, he likely would have been disfigured by the explosion of glass.

Chaisi let out a cold laugh. He circled around the SUV and watched the resident climb back out.

It located the direction Han Liuyue had gone, then slowly bent down, placing both hands on the ground. One leg was bent slightly, the other extended back.

If one ignored the driver’s corpse on its back, it was a perfect imitation of a sprinter’s starting stance.

Chaisi strolled to its side, getting ready himself.

"Go on, run," he said, a grin splitting his face in the rain. "What are you waiting for, the starting gun?"

As if it had heard him, the resident took off running the very next second.

In the rainy night, the T-bar scraped along the ground in a wide arc. For this strike, Chaisi twisted at the waist, unleashing a burst of power that seemed capable of cracking the very earth.

The T-bar tore through the resident’s skin and bit deep into its shin bone with the force of a landslide, grinding through layer after layer of bone.

The resident clearly hadn’t expected its own leg to snap the moment it took its first step. It immediately lost its balance and crashed heavily onto the asphalt.

Chaisi immediately rolled backward, narrowly dodging the long arms the resident flung at him. Against the backdrop of the rainy night sky, its arms fanned out in a blur before his eyes, each ’rib’ of the fan a distinct, misshapen limb.

"Oh, so you *can* see me," he said, leaping to his feet and backing away quickly. He laughed, panting. "You were just so preoccupied with your brain that you couldn’t be bothered with me before, is that it?"

Thankfully, he didn’t have to hear its nauseating voice. The headless resident before him was clearly anxious, furious, and frustrated. Half-sprawled and half-kneeling on the road, it actually started throwing a tantrum, pounding its fists against the ground.

Chaisi could almost imagine its screams.

"You have only yourself to blame for insisting on coming here," he said in a low voice. "If you had just crawled back to your Nest, you could have gone on being a pest. In the world of humans... there’s no place for you."

In the time it took him to speak, the resident’s leg bone had, as if in a morbid joke, already fused back together, layer by layer. By the time it had calmed down and stood up again, the driver’s corpse hung limply over its back like a cape.

It "looked" in the direction Han Liuyue had gone for a few seconds, then suddenly spun around and headed back toward the SUV.

Chaisi took two steps back and felt his pocket. ’The keys are still here.’

’Since I have them, I’ll just let it be. Even if it beats the car into molten steel, it won’t be able to—huh?’

Chaisi froze.

This time, however, the resident opened the rear door.

’What’s in the back? Just the two bodyguard corpses it had nearly beaten into sunflowers of flesh, right?’

The resident stretched out one arm and pointed at Chaisi from afar, as if to say, "Don’t you come any closer." With another hand, it dragged a corpse from the back seat.

’Isn’t the one on its back enough? It needs to carry another one?’

Before Chaisi’s baffled eyes, the resident raised a hand. Twenty or thirty fingers swayed through the air like countless gentle willow leaves, then gently swept across the corpse’s neck.

The neck, as if it were warm butter, parted smoothly from the torso. The head rolled to a stop, its eyes meeting Chaisi’s.

The unfamiliar man’s face on the ground was then quickly cradled by two hands.
