Chapter 1075: Parute Viper
Chapter 1075: Parute Viper
Two days later, the lid to the vat was opened, revealing a Mud Viper egg that was a tenth bigger than before. He carefully observed it and smiled when the egg started to hatch, “Good.”
Ruvva peeked over the vat in curiosity as the egg hatched, revealing a Mud Viper, “It’s a Mud Viper.”
“It indeed is,” Orakha responded as he watched the Mud Viper swim through the fluid in the vat as its body gradually stabilised. It moved within the fluid, seeming hesitant even to reach the surface.
Moreover, in a few seconds, its body jerked a little in regular intervals, causing it to cry out in pain.
“It’s hungry.” Ruvva said and eyed Orakha, “Don’t we need to feed it?”
“Yes, once its cries reach peak intensity.” Orakha said and lifted a Parute Fruit, dangling it above the vat as he observed the cries of the Mud Viper increase until soon, it began to spasm, “It’s time.”
He dropped the Parute Fruit into the water, which the Mud Viper spontaneously swallowed in a flash. It had moved at such speeds, a small splash formed in the vat. After eating it, the Mud Viper continued to cry.
Orakha fed it two more Parute Fruits and watched it fall asleep, “Now, all we need to do is repeat these steps.”
The vat was cylindrical in shape, spanning a radius of five metres and reaching a height of two metres. Once the Mud Viper fell asleep, Orakha scooped out the remains from its egg and cleaned the vat a little.
From then onwards, he fed the Mud Viper Parute Fruits in regular intervals. And whenever it fell asleep, he cleaned the vat of its faecal matter.
Seeing Ruvva observe his actions, Orakha explained, “Technically, it’s unnecessary to take such care. Merely dumping everything is enough. As long as these two are available in sufficient quantities, the Mud Viper will try its best to survive.”
“And when it does, it will mutate into the form I desire.” He continued, “Even at the Mammoth Clan, as a student, this was possible.”
He then pointed at the container with Parute Fruits, “Collecting them will be the most difficult endeavour. However, it’s not impossible, since Parute Tree farms existed in every Empyrean Tusk.”
“How did you plan to amass so much Parute Fruits?” Ruvva asked, “I know the conditions at the Academy of Refinement. In your state with the Fragment Disease, it seems impossible to amass such a fortune.”
“All six of us had a plan.” Orakha said, “Well, Resha too had a plan, where he intended to use his Skill of Toxin Refinement to refine Mud Viper toxins into a medicine. As a regressor, he had other plans too.”
At the academy, Resha would sell medicines. After reaching the Body Stage, he would refine Mud Viper toxins into an Elixir, which would get him enough tusk bone powder from across the 44 Settlements.
It was a solid plan. He also had the means to infiltrate Pranic Beast nests, steal their eggs, and safely return to the Settlement, “With Internal Inertial Gravity, he could easily do whatever he wanted.”
“As for us,” Orakha said, “Each of us reincarnates came prepared with the means to gather the resources necessary for our development.”
Virala didn’t have anything to sell. He planned to fleece resources from Granny Oyo through the Mammoth Clansman Ruvva. If that wasn’t enough, he would fleece other women, “Even with all of us making moves, he had two women under his thumb.”
Inala planned to sell paintings and sculptures to Mammoth Clansmen couples in honour of their relationship memories. “In a scene filled with death, it was pretty heartwarming. It wouldn’t last long, but he would obtain enough resources by then to reach the Body Stage, from where his plans would change.”
Blola intended to follow Resha’s footsteps, “He simply prepared tools and the means to steal resources from the houses of other Mammoth Clansmen without getting caught.”
“Just that was enough?” Ruvva frowned, “Wouldn’t everyone realise something was amiss when their things start vanishing?”
“The First Minor Crisis consumed half the lives in our Settlement.” Orakha smiled wryly, “That left plenty of vacant houses. There was someone to manage them, but no one to keep a daily track of the items kept in them.”
“So, by the time someone notices the theft, he would have graduated from the academy?” Ruvva asked.
“He only needed enough to move on his own through the Ennoudu Plains.” Orakha pointed at a certain tunnel situated quite close to a mountain with a flatland at its peak, “At the end of that tunnel was a Parute Tree seed. The walls along the path were covered by Spirit Moss.”
“That’s how he obtained the power of the Transcendent Eater.” Ruvva nodded.
“None had an idea about it. We all thought it was simply a treasure to raise our Prana generation means. It was important for all of us, but not enough to miss other opportunities.” Orakha concluded, “Only he considered it his top priority, since he also wanted to kill the baby Empyrean Tusk being brought by our parents.”
Grehha intended to capture a few Mud Vipers alive during the First Minor Crisis and breed them to sell both the eggs and the toxins to Granny Oyo, “His plan was extremely stable. And upon graduation, he will have the power and means to mutate the Mud Vipers into higher variants, whose eggs he would sell to the Clan for resources. His plan alone has remained unchanged until now.”
Yennda created Roto Spears to revolutionise the Spirit Weapon capabilities of Mammoth Clansmen, “They were compatible with Mystic Bone Art, and hence, he would have constant demand.”
Last in the list was Orakha, “My plan was the simplest to execute, which was to help at the kitchen.”
“I thought the students at the Academy of Refinement were promised as much food as they needed?” Ruvva asked, “What benefit did you gain by working there?”
“On Earth, there exists things like Vitamin tablets.” Orakha explained, “I had the means to use Mystic Bone Art and extract valuable nutrients from the food and turn them into concentrated pellets for exclusive consumption of the Mammoth Clansmen.”
“You were able to think of something like that on Earth, without any idea of Mystic Bone Art’s functions?” Ruvva expressed her surprise.
“Didn’t you witness a bit of my life on Earth?” Orakha asked, chuckling upon seeing the other party nod, “My life felt hollow there. However, I had one thing the rest of the reincarnates didn’t have on Earth, in extremely excessive amounts at that.”
“Money,” He smiled in pride.
“When I became obsessed with Sumatra Chronicles, I spent a lot of money related to it. At first, I simply purchased any merch related to the story. However, as my obsession started, I delved into the story with a different perspective.” He said, “I went to the novel’s forums and invited readers in my city for entertainment.”
“They were simple parties, with the topic primarily being one,” Orakha eyed Ruvva and said with a tone of arrogance doused by arrogance, “If Sumatra Continent was real, what would we do there to survive?”
“Every participant came with a detailed analysis of their build, the means and resources required to acquire such a build, and the process involved from the beginning.” He laughed and patted his head, “I got plenty of ideas through them. Nerds are extremely amazing, you know?”
“Of course, I too had my own set of ideas, which I presented to that small community I had created.” Orakha boasted, “They pointed out the flaws in my build, and refined it.”
“One of the flaws was related to the food.” He continued, “One of them asked me how I would know to compress food if I had no knowledge related to it in the first place?”
“So, I took classes.” Orakha shrugged, “I hired a few private tutors to learn about food processing and practiced various methods. Not just food processing, but I learnt and built the tools necessary to process the food.”
“I even survived in one of our private islands for a week just to apply my theory into practice.” Orakha reminisced in nostalgia, “That experience was horrible. However, when I presented my experiences to my club, they treated me like some sort of celebrity.”
“Everyone in that club started roleplaying to train for their builds on Sumatra. It started as a casual party, and eventually, became a full-fledged club.” His eyes turned moist as he uttered, “I made plenty of friends there. Even though I took care of all the finances, everyone contributed in other forms to liven up the club.”
“As I was saying,” Orakha waved his hand shortly after wiping his moist eyes, “I didn’t know Mystic Bone Art. However, my club deeply researched its effects documented in the novel, and based on it, we made some formulae for my build that relied on food processing.”
“Then…” Ruvva asked as she watched the Mud Viper beginning to change in appearance, matching the description of the Pranic Beast described in Sumatra Chronicles, “Did you regret your actions?”
“Of course,” Orakha grumbled, “Every waking moment, I regretted my choice. If only, in that flight or fright moment, I had stayed put, I wouldn’t have been killed by Resha.”
“But that’s Sumatra for you.” He shrugged, “The reason I fell in love with this world was also what contributed to my death in the first place.”
Gueee!
Many days passed as Orakha reminisced about his Earth days, going into detail about his Club, its members, and the various events they held together. Orakha stopped speaking upon hearing a satisfied burp from the Mud Viper after it had eaten its three hundred thousandth Parute Fruit.
After engaging in a strict diet of 300,000 Parute Fruits while remaining immersed in the fluid from Prana Bombs., the Mud Viper had fully mutated into a new variant.
“This is my original build.” Orakha grabbed the mutated Mud Viper and clenched his fist hard, suffocating the latter. Upon sensing its approaching death, the mutated Mud Viper combusted its essence and turned into an egg, “Moments before death, it will assume a rebirth. This is the only way it creates progeny, for it’s incapable of fertilisation.”
“But did you have to kill it?” Ruvva asked, “You didn’t need its egg form, right? You’re no longer a Mammoth Clansman.”
“The rebirth version has stabler genetics.” Orakha smiled, “Well, more than that, I just wanted to show you the birth mechanism of such a magnificent creature.”
“It’s the only one of its kind that exists on Sumatra, a lonely, but inherently constructive existence.”
