I Write Novels in a Zerg Prison
Chapter 200: The Stranded Male Zerg × The Heavenly Garuda Emperor (17): Psychic Soothing, Carl Becomes Famous in a Single Battle
[Carl's male father disagreed with him becoming a military doctor for a reason like this, and even his female father, who was serving in the military, voiced his opposition.
After half a month of matching wits and courage with them, Carl finally managed to sneak out of the house and head to the Ninth Military Region to report for duty.
He entered through the special recruitment channel for Psychic Soothing specialists, so he didn't need to wait for the annual recruitment period and could enter the military directly.
As for his family's objections afterward, that was no longer something he needed to worry about. The officers of the Military Region would naturally step forward to deal with them.
An A-rank Male Zerg—and an A-rank Male Zerg exceptionally skilled at Psychic Soothing at that—was a temptation no Military Region could possibly refuse.
Even if they had to withstand the combined pressure of the former Archon and a General of the Eighth Legion, they were determined to keep this Male Zerg.
It was Carl's first time visiting a Military Region, and every Zerg was particularly enthusiastic toward him.
Even Major Xi'an, whom he'd previously only seen on StarNet and in news reports, appeared before him in the flesh, greeted him warmly, and personally showed him around the Military Region.
One was a military Male Zerg officer and the other a military doctor. Although their areas of responsibility differed, they still had plenty in common, and Carl could ask Senior Xi'an for advice about many aspects of daily life.
He had his own dorm room now.
A private room with a bathroom and toilet, along with a chair, bed, and cabinet.
Naturally, it couldn't compare with Carl's room at home, but he'd once lived as a "wild Zerg" in a cave, so he adapted without any trouble.
Xi'an had originally been worried that he might be picky. Seeing him accept everything without the slightest difficulty, he breathed a sigh of relief and told him:
"Once you're promoted to field-grade officer, you can apply for a detached house."
"Military doctors have ranks too?" Carl asked in surprise.
"Of course. You can even rise as high as Lieutenant General."
Xi'an patted him on the shoulder. "Work hard. Who knows, you might get promoted even faster than me."
Carl was stunned. He couldn't even imagine something like that.
He was far too inferior to Senior Xi'an.
Carl spent one day familiarizing himself with the military environment, then went straight to work the next day.
The Ninth Military Region had several Male Zerg doctors, and he was the youngest among them.
Everyone took particularly good care of him, and the patients assigned to him were relatively easy cases.
Once a Female Zerg's mental condition dropped below 80 points, they could no longer recover on their own, while the patients assigned to Carl were all between 60 and 80 points.
Carl genuinely thought that sounded quite easy and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Everyone said the military females in the armed forces suffered from the most severe psychic problems and that military doctors had an especially heavy workload. He'd honestly been afraid they'd immediately make him treat patients with scores in the teens, or even below ten. If he failed to save them, he'd be terrified of getting dismissed and fired.
The Male Zerg military doctor supervising him even reassured him, "Just do what you can. Soothe as much as you're able to. It doesn't matter if you can't cure them in one session. They'll come back for follow-up appointments."
What the Male Zerg military doctor meant was that Carl should raise their scores by however much he could. He didn't necessarily have to soothe them above 80 points in a single session.
What Carl understood was that he should soothe as many Zergs as he could and give it everything he had.
He nodded seriously and entered his treatment room.
There was only a simple desk and chair inside, along with a treatment chair for patients that allowed them to lie flat. If necessary, an automatic restraint system could secure their hands and feet at the press of a button.
It looked like an instrument of torture.
Carl muttered inwardly.
But he also knew that everything existed for a reason, so he didn't comment on it.
If they encountered patients whose mental condition was critically dangerous, whose consciousness was impaired, who were irritable and aggressive, or who might attack others, restraining them like this was the only way to ensure the doctor's safety.
Carl changed into his military doctor's uniform and sat behind the treatment desk.
A military female assistant beside him operated the terminal to call patients and record information while also being responsible for protecting his safety.
First patient: Owen, military female noncommissioned officer, A- rank, mental condition 69 points.
As soon as the military female entered and saw the doctor's excessively young, immature, and beautiful face, he froze for a moment. Then, somewhat dazedly, he lay down on the treatment chair and voluntarily positioned his hands and feet, waiting for the chair's automatic restraints to secure him.
Only to discover that the military doctor directly extended his Psychic Force and was about to treat him without restraining him at all.
He assumed the doctor was too young and unfamiliar with the procedure and had accidentally skipped that step, so he hurriedly reminded him, "Doctor, you should tie me down first."
Carl looked at him in confusion. "There's no need. You're perfectly lucid, aren't you?"
The military female was speechless.
He was lucid now, but he was worried something might happen during the soothing process.
"Don't worry. Just leave it to me. This is Psychic Soothing, not some evil experiment designed to make your mental condition worse."
When it came to a field he was familiar with, Carl was extremely confident.
Since the doctor had already said so, the military female, as the patient, could only listen to him.
Carl extended his Psychic Force. The military female was extremely nervous and apparently didn't have much confidence in Carl's treatment skills, but Carl still opened his Psychic Domain with ease.
Being heavily guarded, distrustful—before absolutely overwhelming Psychic Force, none of that mattered.
It was like nothing more than a tiny threshold. All he had to do was lift his leg and step across.
Carl followed the path all the way into his psychic mindscape. After twenty minutes, he completed a comprehensive Psychic Soothing and restoration session.
Since this was the first patient on his first day of work, he was afraid something might go wrong and had been particularly meticulous.
『Mental Condition: 100 points.』
Looking at the result displayed on the testing equipment, Carl breathed a sigh of relief and told the military female:
"All right, the treatment is finished. You can leave."
The military female remained lying there blankly without moving. When he saw the number displayed on the screen, his expression went completely vacant.
"What's wrong?" Carl asked in confusion. "Is there somewhere else you're feeling uncomfortable?"
Psychic Soothing was the only thing he knew how to do. He couldn't treat any other injuries or illnesses. For those, the patient would have to go out, turn left, and visit another treatment department.
"One hundred points?" the military female asked blankly.
"Yes." Afraid he wouldn't believe him, Carl tested him again.
The result was exactly the same.
By the time the military female finally walked out, the entire Zerg looked completely dazed.
Even the assistant responsible for keeping records and calling numbers was staring in shock, utterly stupefied.
Only after Carl reminded him did he hurriedly enter the information and call in the next patient.
With the first patient providing a perfect example, Carl picked up the pace afterward and gave it everything he had.
Over the course of one morning, including the time spent calling patients and communicating with them, he treated thirty-two patients.
He was utterly exhausted.
This should be enough, right?
Carl slumped in his chair, so tired his head felt swollen.
He'd really gone all out just to keep up with the workload of the Military Region.
Carl closed his eyes and rubbed his temples.
"Doctor?! Are you all right, Doctor!?"
The assistant lunged toward him with a horrified expression, his booming voice leaving Carl dazed.
"Quick, drink an energy potion... Somebody come quickly! Doctor Carl has collapsed from exhaustion!"
Wait, what? I haven't collapsed.
Carl raised one hand to show that he was perfectly fine.
Instead, the powerful military female picked him up together with his chair and carried the whole thing straight out of the treatment room, sprinting toward the emergency department.
Carl stared blankly.
This was unbelievably embarrassing...
But he'd also become famous in a single battle.
...]
[Wait, what? One perfect-score Psychic Soothing session in twenty minutes? And that's when he was deliberately taking his time to make sure everything was perfect? He treated thirty-two patients in one morning? He soothed every single one of them? Can someone tell me what kind of concept we're talking about here?]
[Before that Lord appeared, I would've said it was the kind of concept that only existed in dreams—what the €€€€ does An-shen know about Psychic Soothing?! But that Lord proved it genuinely can be done.]
[I was just about to call this science fiction, then suddenly remembered there's a real-life example. (Terrified)]
[Isn't this enough to rival that Lord's level?]
[It's still different. Lord Annor only performs Psychic Soothing for three star-hours every day, and after developing group Psychic Soothing, the amount of time required was reduced even further. Lord Carl needed an entire morning to soothe thirty-two patients. We don't know exactly how long that was, but it was definitely at least four star-hours.]
[The difficulty of the soothing is different too. Lord Carl's patients were all between 60 and 80 points. Almost all the patients that Lord treats are below 60, and many of them have even reached critically dangerous mental conditions in the teens.]
[But no matter how you look at it, treating thirty-two patients in one morning is already legendary. That's basically equivalent to performing thirty-two surgeries!
You have to understand, even the Soothing Specialists at the Military Region Prison are only assigned ten patients of the same level per day, and that's already exploiting Male Zergs to the point of barely treating them like Male Zergs at all.]
[What did the Ninth Military Region ever do to deserve this? They practically picked up a treasure off the ground.]
[It's fine. It's only a novel. Our First Military Region has the real Lord.]
[Does the First Military Region even still belong to you First Legion guys? Why do I see troops from all the other Legions stationed there every single day?]
[Right in the heart.]
[It's not that bad. The other Generals can bring at most one unit over for rotation and to take responsibility for the Military Region Prison's security. The number of military females they can bring is restricted. Most of the First Military Region is still staffed by our own Zergs.]
[Ninth Legion passing by. We may not have Lord Carl, but we have Lord Eugene!]
[?!!]
