Chapter 660: Chapter 438: Being in Love Is Truly Pleasant

Feng Ze was startled by his father’s sudden scolding, but he obediently apologized to his mother. "Mother, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have laughed at you. I’ll give you all my fish. I’ll come back tomorrow and catch more for you, okay?"

Song Yunzhao couldn’t quite describe her feelings at that moment. They were complex, touched, and warm.

She crouched down to look at her son and said with a smile, "Of course. Mother will wait for your fish tomorrow. I’m sure they’ll be even tastier than today’s, because every one will be filled with your love for me."

Feng Ze immediately brightened up. Song Yunzhao had Anshun take Feng Ze back to change his clothes and wash up. This time, Feng Ze didn’t refuse. He had gotten the hem of his clothes wet while fishing and was starting to feel uncomfortable.

Though he was a wild child, he liked to be clean.

Feng Ze dashed off in a flash, with Anshun and the others chasing after him.

Only then did Song Yunzhao turn to face Feng Yi. Xiangxue and the others had already tactfully withdrawn. Without hesitation, she threw herself into Feng Yi’s arms and whispered in his ear, "Feng Yi, I really am falling more and more in love with you."

Feng Yi’s face instantly turned red. They were still outside. If he pushed her away, he might hurt her pride, but not pushing her away was rather improper. After a moment of hesitation, Feng Yi still reached out and wrapped his arms around her.

Song Yunzhao rested on his shoulder, her whole body trembling with laughter. ’A blushing Feng Yi... it really has been a long, long time since I’ve seen that.’

She gently pushed him away, intertwined her fingers with his, and they slowly walked toward Qingyao Palace. As they walked, she said, "I thought you weren’t going to come over tonight."

Feng Yi breathed a slight sigh of relief when Yun Zhao let him go. Hearing her words, he said, "It’s our first day here; I had to come and keep you company. Qingyao Palace is a bit closer to the lake, so there will be the sounds of wind and water at night. I was worried you wouldn’t be able to get used to it and sleep."

Hearing this, Song Yunzhao felt that today was truly a wonderful day. Everything she saw was pleasing to the eye, everything she did went smoothly, and every word he spoke went straight to her heart.

’Why am I so happy today?’

’It’s been a long time since I’ve been this happy.’

’No wonder everyone wants to be in a relationship. It really is quite pleasant.’

Seeing Yun Zhao looking so happy, Feng Yi couldn’t help but smile too. The two of them returned to Qingyao Palace, where a freshly washed Feng Ze came running over. The fish had already been sent to the kitchen.

Feng Yi played with his son while Yun Zhao went to the inner chamber to change and do her makeup. After being in the lakeside wind for so long, her appearance was a bit disheveled.

While choosing her clothes, Yun Zhao’s fingertips lingered on a peach-blossom red dress. It was covered in a pattern of folded flowers, outlined with gold thread. The hem, cuffs, and lapel were embroidered with a three-finger-wide border. A jade belt cinched her waist tightly, making her figure appear even more slender.

Yun Zhao sat before the mirror and did her own "peach blossom" makeup. It had been a long time since she had done her own makeup, but today she felt the urge. With Xiangxue assisting her, she faced the mirror and carefully defined her eyes and brows, then colored her lips with a new peach-blossom red lip rouge from Baozhuang Building.

The woman in the mirror had almond-shaped eyes and rosy cheeks, her skin like white jade. The touch of blush on her cheeks added an extra layer of allure.

Xiangxue stared, her eyes wide. ’Her Ladyship is simply too beautiful tonight.’

Song Yunzhao nodded in satisfaction, lifted the curtain, and walked out. Feng Yi turned his head, and his eyes, once they landed on her, could not look away.

Their eyes met. Song Yunzhao gave a dazzling smile, and for the first time, Feng Yi found his son to be quite an eyesore.

The evening meal was sumptuous. Feng Ze ate with great enthusiasm, proudly announcing with every new dish, "I caught this fish!" This amused Yun Zhao to no end.

Feng Yi: "..."

After finally finishing the meal, it took another great effort to coax their son away. Feng Yi turned, closed the hall doors, and fixed his gaze on Yun Zhao.

Yun Zhao met Feng Yi’s unconcealed gaze and felt a wave of heat rush to her face. A blush spread across her fair skin, from her cheeks to the side of her neck. She curved her eyes at Feng Yi, her smile bold and bright. She was as dazzling and radiant as a summer flower.

Feng Yi strode forward, his long arm reaching out to lock her firmly in his embrace. A red agate pendant rested against her collarbone, the contrast of red on white a breathtaking sight.

The dressing mirror reflected two entangled shadows. The lake-blue bed curtains swayed gently like ripples on water. A jade-white arm reached out and pulled the curtain down. The mirror no longer showed any figures, only the curtain, endlessly rising and falling.

In the middle of the night, the faint sound of the lake’s water could be heard. Yun Zhao felt like a small boat, adrift on the waves, finding no peace the entire night.

It was a rare morning that she woke up to find Feng Yi still there. The other side of the bed was empty, but the sound of him talking with their son drifted in from behind a thin curtain. The two of them had clearly lowered their voices, not wanting to wake her.

Song Yunzhao listened for a moment, and her eyes curved into a smile.

’The most precious tenderness in this world is someone’s meticulous care for you.’

Song Yunzhao felt Feng Yi’s love and protectiveness.

She rose quietly, dressed, and tidied her appearance before finally walking out.

The moment Feng Ze saw her, he ran over. "Mother."

Song Yunzhao smiled and answered him, then looked at her son and asked, "Why aren’t you out playing?" ℯℯ𝑙.

’This child is impossible to tie down, with a spirit like a wild stallion.’

"Father said you were very tired and needed to rest. I was worried about you."

Song Yunzhao shot Feng Yi a sideways glance. Feng Yi rubbed his nose and said nothing, but the smile on his face was brilliant.

After having breakfast with their son, Feng Yi said to Yun Zhao, "I’ll take the boy to Dehe Palace. You get a good day’s rest."

For a moment, Song Yunzhao didn’t know what to say. As she was seeing the father and son off, Feng Yi looked back at her and, unable to resist, gave her cheek a gentle tap.

Song Yunzhao’s smile froze on her face. ’Our son is still here!’

Feng Yi cheerfully carried the little troublemaker away, while Yun Zhao, her back and waist aching, lazed about in a rocking chair.

Xiangxue came over to massage her shoulders and legs, while Shizhu prepared tea and gave her report.

Yun Zhao listened as Shizhu reported on the arrangements for everyone at Jincui Garden, nodding slightly. It was good that there hadn’t been any trouble. "Has any word come from Consort Shu?"

"Not yet. But I imagine everyone will be resting today, so it’s uncertain whether a banquet will be held," Shizhu said. "When I went to the Imperial Kitchen to fetch the meal today, I happened to run into Hong You, who serves Lady Shufei. Hong You told me that the Empress Dowager hasn’t given her approval either, so it probably won’t happen."

’Who would want to hold a banquet in this heat? It’s much more comfortable to just stay cool in one’s own palace.’

’Besides, Feng Yi stayed here with me again last night, which is bound to attract attention. I have no desire to see the looks on the Empress Dowager’s and An Shutong’s faces anyway.’

Just as they were speaking, Nanny Yu hurried in. She first curtsied, then quickly said, "Your Ladyship, this servant just received news. Yesterday, right after Qin Wanyi arrived at Jincui Garden, she secretly met with a palace maid from the garden."

Song Yunzhao was taken aback. "This happened yesterday. Why is the report only being delivered today?"

’I knew Qin Xiyue was no quiet lamb.’

"It was a bit of bad luck. Our spy tried to follow that palace maid yesterday to find out where she worked, but not only did they lose her because they weren’t familiar with the paths, they also fell and sprained their back. They were only able to get up and walk a little today, so they rushed to send word."
