I Was Summoned as the Weakest Hero, But I Awakened a Military System
Chapter 60: I Can’t Go!
John cleared his throat, subtly trying to shift his weight and create some tactical breathing room on the fur pelt. "Lyra, look, I respect your customs, truly. But back where I come from, things move a lot slower. We date, we talk, we fill out paperwork—military brass definitely frowns on fraternization with foreign heads of state on day three."
Lyra didn’t budge. In fact, his attempt to retreat only seemed to trigger her natural hunting instincts.
Her tail wrapped firmly around his thigh, anchoring him in place with surprising strength. Before John could stand, she shifted her weight, smoothly planting a knee on either side of his lap. The dark, silk-lined fabric of her gown parted along the high slit, resting against his combat trousers. Her hands pressed flat against his chest, feeling the solid beat of his heart through his olive-drab undershirt.
"You speak of endless rules and distant lands, Commander," Lyra murmured, her amber eyes glowing with playful defiance. "Out here, in the wild, the pack does not wait on parchment."
"Lyra, wait—"
"I told you," she whispered, leaning down until her breath tickled his ear, her soft wolf ears brushing against his temple. "A beastkin woman does not let a worthy mate walk out into the cold."
Her hands slid up to the nape of his neck, pulling him down into a fierce, unyielding kiss that tasted of sweet honey mead and fire. John’s disciplined resolve, already battered by the long day of warfare and the potent mountain vintage, completely crumbled under the sheer, tactile reality of her embrace. He tried to tell himself to stand down, to order a strategic retreat, but when her arms locked around his shoulders and pulled him flat onto the thick fur rugs, all coherent military doctrine evaporated from his mind.
Her fingers tangled firmly into his hair, giving him zero room to pull back. Every instinct drilled into John over years of military service screamed about protocol, diplomacy, and situational control, but having a stunning, half-feral wolf chieftain pinning him to the floor with full intention made every logical argument vanish in seconds.
Lyra broke the kiss just enough to catch her breath, a low, satisfied rumble vibrating deep in her throat. Her amber eyes gleamed down at him in the dim firelight, completely unapologetic.
"Still thinking about your paperwork, Commander?" she whispered against his lips, her hips shifting slightly to ensure he couldn’t roll away.
"I’m thinking... my chain of command is never going to believe this after-action report," John muttered, his hands moving naturally to grip her waist, feeling the firm, warm muscle beneath the parted silk of her gown.
Lyra gave a breathless, triumphant chuckle, leaning down to trail soft, biting kisses along his jawline down to the crook of his neck. "Good. Then stop thinking."
With a fluid, practiced motion, she reached behind her to loosen the ornate gold fastenings of her ceremonial dress, letting the dark fabric and plush fur shawl spill freely across the rug, giving in entirely to the heat rising between them.
Any lingering hesitation vanished, buried beneath the heat of the fire and the sheer force of her embrace. John stopped fighting the current, pulling her down against him as the dress fell away, letting the rest of the world fade beyond the lodge walls.
One hour later.
The fire had died down to glowing red embers, leaving the room quiet and warm.
John lay on his back across the thick pelts, staring up at the dark wooden rafters. Beside him, Lyra was sound asleep, curled tightly against his side with one arm slung over his chest and her tail draped over his leg. The exhaustion from the past few days seemed to have finally left her.
"Oh my fucking god," John cursed under his breath. He just did it with a beastkin chieftain.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, staring at the ceiling in complete disbelief. If someone had told him yesterday that modern tactical doctrine, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and standard diplomatic procedure would culminate in him waking up tangled in furs with a wolf-eared clan leader, he would have had them court-martialed for sheer insanity.
Yet here he was.
Beside him, Lyra shifted, her tail tightening slightly around his leg as she let out a soft, contented sigh in her sleep, completely unbothered by the quiet existential crisis unfolding inches away.
John looked down at her face, which finally looked entirely relaxed, free from the crushing burdens of war and leadership for the first time since they had met. The mutual attraction had been obvious, and beastkin customs clearly didn’t operate on standard bureaucratic timetables, but navigating base politics come sunrise was going to be an absolute headache.
John took a slow breath and decided that making a quiet exit before dawn was his best tactical option. If he could slip out, make it back to his command tent, wash up, and act like he had spent the night reviewing logistics manifests, he might salvage some semblance of military decorum.
Carefully, he placed his hands on her bare forearm, attempting to lift it off his chest.
He didn’t even manage an inch.
The moment he tried to slide away, Lyra’s wolf ears twitched sharply in her sleep. With instinctual, predatory reflex, her grip tightened like an iron vise. Both of her arms snapped around his torso, pulling him flush against her warm, soft frame. At the same time, her thick, bushy tail coiled firmly around his thighs and waist, effectively locking him down like a pair of biological zip-ties.
"Ngh... stay," she muttered drowsily, her face nuzzling deeper into the crook of his neck, her warm breath tickling his collarbone. "Too cold out there..."
"Lyra, hey," John whispered, trying to push gently against her shoulders without being rough. "I have to get up. There’s work to do even in the celebration."
Her response was a low, possessive rumble deep in her throat. Instead of releasing him, she threw one of her long legs over his hips, completely pinning him beneath the heavy fur blankets. Her claws rested flat against his ribs, not scratching, but applying just enough firm pressure to remind him she was an apex predator who had zero intention of letting her prize escape before morning.
"It’s fine. Let the others enjoy the celebration...let me enjoy by keeping you here."
John strained slightly against the hold, but between her raw beastkin strength and the awkward leverage, he was thoroughly anchored.
He stared up at the wooden rafters once more, letting out a defeated, exasperated sigh.
Well, there’s no getting out on this one, but one thing is certain, the experience of doing it with a beastkin, it’s amazing!
