Chapter 2389: Purchase of Exclusive Brush ⑱
Kaito’s misunderstanding was, in a sense, understandable. Setting aside Lilia, who was a family head, the only noble lady Kaito could picture at present was Eris. Naturally, she became his standard of comparison.
However, Eris and Cornelia stood on very different social ground. Eris was the heir to a Marquisdom, a prodigy from childhood who had displayed brilliance across numerous fields. She had founded several stores at a young age and even taken part in her family’s businesses. She was a person of great authority and influence.
By contrast, Cornelia was merely the eldest daughter of a County. The family’s inheritance would go to her elder brother, the legitimate heir, and Cornelia herself was expected to marry into another house for political reasons. She was not deeply involved in the family’s ventures and had little power within them.
Of course, she still had a general grasp of what her family’s business entailed, and she would sometimes offer opinions or ideas…… However, at the very least, she had almost no part in the management of the Sharon Trading Company.
The only reason she had guided Kaito to the Victor Trading Company was because she personally was friends with him, nothing more. Even though the Victor Trading Company was technically a subsidiary under her family’s influence, she held no actual authority over it.
[Hmm, I see. It’s not just Dragons, there are other races who find that ordinary brushes irritate their skin. Creating an exclusive brush sounds like a fine idea indeed.]
[Would you want an exclusive brush too, Magnawell-san?]
[No, making a brush suited to my size would be unrealistic. I use magic to clean myself, though it takes considerable skill to polish each scale properly, something few can do. Those who cannot often make use of brushes and such.]
At that moment, the conversation between Kaito and Magnawell was utterly terrifying to Cornelia. Especially because Magnawell, the Dragon King himself, seemed to show a certain level of interest in exclusive brushes.
(It doesn’t seem like Dragon King-sama…… Magnawell-sama intends to have one made for himself, but this is a terrible turn of conversation. Truly terrible…… Umm, Kaito-sama…… you remember, don’t you? Victor Trading Company is just a small trading company. If the Dragon King camp were to place a mass order, the results would be unimaginable……)Under the Dragon King’s rule were tens of millions of monsters. Even if only a fraction were interested…… if their King, Magnawell, took a liking to these exclusive brushes, it was easy to imagine how many would want one too.
However, the Victor Trading Company had nowhere near the capacity to handle such a massive order. If that were to happen, Sharon County would have to invest enormous funds to expand the company’s operations.
That would undoubtedly bring tremendous profit to Sharon County…… but if this plan came to fruition through this very conversation…… there was no doubt who would end up at the center of it all……. Cornelia herself.
[I haven’t received mine yet since I just placed the order today, but according to Cornelia-san, their brushes are really good, so I’m looking forward to it.]
[Fumu. Then I shall ask you about its performance once you’ve tried it. If it’s satisfactory, I may recommend it to some of my subordinates who also want brushes.]
[Ahh, that would be great for Victor Trading Company’s sales.]
And then, the conversation began heading exactly in the direction Cornelia had feared.
(Kaito-sama? KAITO-SAMA!!! Magnawell-sama’s camp, the Dragon King’s camp is said to be second only to the Phantasmal King’s in number…… Of course, it’s not as if every single one of them would place an order, but even if only one out of a hundred did, that would still be an astronomical amount!)
Of course, this was all still hypothetical, it would only become relevant after Kaito received and used his custom brushes. There was no actual order being placed yet.
(But still, if…… if Kaito-sama ends up giving the brushes a high evaluation…… wouldn’t that lead to something absolutely catastrophic? J- Just imagining it makes my stomach……)
Just picturing the potential outcome made her stomach twist in pain. And then, right after that, Magnawell turned towards Cornelia and spoke the words that sounded like a death sentence.
[Then, should any among my subordinates desire a brush, I shall have them contact Cornelia Sharon directly…… is that acceptable?]
[Y- Yesh, absholutely!]
If possible, she wanted him to contact Sharon County instead…… She really wanted that, but at the moment, Cornelia was the only one who had personal connections with both Magnawell and Kaito, and even with Nidzveld and Eingana. For now, she couldn’t possibly redirect this matter to her family.
And more than that, Magnawell, one of the Six Kings, had, even if unintentionally, personally appointed her as the point of contact. It wasn’t the sort of request someone in her position could refuse.
Thus, in that very moment, Cornelia Sharon, eldest daughter of the Sharon family…… found her future sealed, she was now destined to become Sharon County’s chief representative in all matters related to monsters.
<Afterword>
Serious-senpai : [There’s profit in it. Without a doubt, the profit would be enormous, and for Cornelia, who until now hadn’t had any clearly defined future position and was probably just being considered for a political marriage, this could effectively secure her a very high-ranking post. ……However, the price for that is an unbearable stomachache.]
? ? ? : [And since Kaito-san doesn’t know much about business or commerce, he’s probably just thinking something simple like “They said their sales were down, so if sales go up, they’ll be happy”, you know?]
Serious-senpai : [Isn’t that just Kaito’s good-luck correction doing its job? Like, because he’s thinking it’d make Cornelia happy if Victor Trading Company’s profits went up, the whole situation is somehow moving in that direction?]
? ? ? : [No, not yet at this point. This is still within the scope of the conversation with Magnawell-san…… If that luck correction actually kicks in, it’ll probably be after the Dragon King’s subordinates start placing orders…… and when that happens, I bet it’ll turn into a full-blown craze among the Dragon King’s camp……]
