Chapter 2356: The Promised Tea Party ㉕
It happened just as I’d finished lunch and was relaxing. Illness-san came by my room.
[Kaito-samaaa, a package has arrived for youuu. Since it’s quite laaaaarge, I’ve had it placed in front of the warehouse out baaaaack.]
[A package?]
Normally, any mail or deliveries for me are handled by Anima, but today she was out meeting with a shop she invested in, so Illness-san had come to let me know instead.
[Yeeeees. It’s a package frooooom the Baron Ritch household of the Alcrecia Empiiiiiire. A large wooden crate filled with ripplesss.]
[Ah, ohh, from Marie-san’s family…… Eh? It’s here already!?]
Marie-san had indeed said during the tea party that she’d send me some ripples produced at the Ritch Barony, but I never imagined it would arrive only two days later.
Did she really rush to send it?
[She did say she’d send some ripples, but I’m surprised it arrived in just two days. Errr, it’s in the backyard, right? I’ll go check…… wait, was the box really that big?]
[It was a wooden crate of the kiiiiiind used by merchants for stock, a commercial-size craaaaate. If the contents are all ripplessssss, then these ripple craaaaates…… there are about 10 crates of theeeeem, which likely contains around 30 ripple fruuuuuuits.][That’s a huge amount.]
So basically, errr, they sent it in something like a shipping container…… around 300 fruits. That’s insane.
When I went with Illness-san to the backyard warehouse…… sure enough, there were wooden crates the size of a container sitting there.
If it was full of ripples, then having hundreds inside wouldn’t be strange at all.
The letter from Marie-san that arrived with the crate read: “Since I wasn’t sure how many servants lived at Miyama Kaito-sama’s estate, I’ve sent you a commercial-sized box”. She went on to explain that since they had relatively few buyers compared to their harvest, ripples often went to waste, so she hoped I’d accept them without hesitation.
Ahh, I see. Marie-san doesn’t know that my home only has a few servants, so she assumed it was like a high-ranking noble’s mansion such as Lilia-san’s, and sent enough to handle heavy consumption without issue.
[The ripples look delicious, but the sheer amount is amazing.]
[Indeeeeed. If you keep them in a magic boooooox, they won’t deterioraaaaate, but even so, consuming this much will be difficuuuuuult. Perhaps you could distribute them to your acquaintances, Kaito-samaaa?]
[Good idea. Yeah, with this much, I’ll set aside one crate for us to eat at home, and share the rest to those I know.]
Just as Illness-san said, even though storing them in a magic box would prevent them from deteriorating, it would still be tough to consume all of these at my place alone, so I decided to share them with my acquaintances.
[Will you be having some right awaaaaay?]
[Yes. Since we’ve got them, I’d like to try one.]
[Theeeeen, I’ll cut it and bring it to your room with some tea that goes well with rippleeeees.]
[Thank you.]
I handed Illness-san one crate of ripple that we planned to eat at home, stored the rest in my magic box, and returned to my room.
Soon after, Illness-san arrived with the sliced ripple and tea, so I decided to try some right away.
I suggested she join me, and she readily agreed, so it became our afternoon snack time together.
[Ah, it’s sweet and delicious.]
[Yeeees. This is an even better quality ripple than expecteeeeed. Even in Symphonia Kingdooooom, which grows a lot of fruit, you rarely see ripples of this qualityyyyy.]
The ripple from the Ritch Barony was far more delicious than I had anticipated. How should I say this…… In appearance, it looked like a normal ripple, but its sweetness struck immediately, clearly a variety with stronger natural sugar.
That said, it wasn’t cloying; it had the refreshing sweetness typical of ripple, and it paired wonderfully with the tea.
[Making it into jam might also be deliciouuuuus.]
[That sounds good. I’d like to try spreading it on bread.]
[I’ll prepare some for you sooooon.]
[Looking forward to it. Anyhow, this tastes quite different from the ripples sold around here. I guess it’s the variety?]
[This rippleeeee is a variety relatively common in Archlesia Empiiiiire. However, to bring out such rich sweetneeeeeess, the growing conditions and cultivation methods must be carefully manaaaaaged. Ritch Barony seems to have a very fine estate for thaaaaat.]
Indeed, it had that sense of a high-quality ripple crafted with care. With a taste like this, it wouldn’t be surprising if it became hugely popular, but according to Marie-san’s letter, it’s only sold in nearby towns. In that case, it’s probably consumed mostly around Ritch Barony and might not be circulating in the Capital or elsewhere.
