Soon, the Guards took the female assassin away for medical treatment, and the man’s body was sent to the Personal Guard Bureau’s autopsy room.

His identity and the poison he had taken before death both required further investigation.

A chilling killing intent flashed in Olay’s eyes.

"Sir Olay, we’ve found Lanwo."

"We did a preliminary survey of the scene. It appears to be a suicide. We found a type of poison in his mouth."

Vili frowned at his words. ’So Lanwo died the same way as the other man.’

’Did he commit suicide because he knew he couldn’t escape and didn’t want to leak information...?’

Olay’s face turned grim, the joy from capturing the female assassin instantly vanishing.

Lanwo had been their most important lead, but now that lead was cold. This meant all information would have to be pried from the female assassin’s mouth.

"Bring his body back."

Olay commanded, then paused before adding, "The men posted near Lanwo’s home no longer need to wait. Move in now. Arrest his entire family. Kill anyone who resists."

"Yes, Sir Olay."

The messenger soldier hurried away.

Vili stood to the side in silence. Tonight was destined to be a night of bloodshed.

Olay turned to Vili with a wry smile. "It’s a good thing you caught that female assassin. Otherwise, we really would have come up empty-handed tonight..."

"It was my duty, Teacher."

Vili gave a slight nod.

Olay didn’t say anything more. In truth, he was in no mood to talk.

Lanwo’s betrayal cast a shadow over Diamond Town. What followed would be a strict internal investigation, and many of their colleagues might lose their lives over the slightest hint of suspicion.

"Vili, I probably won’t have time to teach you Fencing for the next couple of days. After you finish your lessons with Mr. Hudier, remember to practice on your own."

Olay instructed.

Vili nodded.

He knew that in the days to come, no one in the Personal Guard Bureau, except for himself, would have a moment’s rest.

After bidding farewell to Olay, Vili returned to his residence alone.

Even after entering his room, Vili could still hear the distant commotion.

The Baron had been targeted for assassination, and the main culprit had committed suicide by poison.

Since he was often by Olay’s side, Vili naturally knew what was worrying him.

Friction between the Lanton Duchy and the Wata Duchy was intensifying. As a small territory caught in the middle, Diamond Town was in constant danger of being annihilated. Lanwo, a veteran who wielded immense authority in Diamond Town, had suddenly betrayed them. At such a sensitive time, this led the Baron to suspect a more complex plot.

’Now that Lanwo is dead, the Lord Baron’s suspicions will likely deepen. What exactly was the information that Lanwo was willing to die to protect?’

’Although they’d captured the female assassin, Vili didn’t think Olay could actually extract anything of value from her.
