I Transmigrated as a Peasant, but My System Wanna Make Me a Duke!
Chapter 46: Shocked Parents
Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Shocked Parents
"Wally!"
Walking over to Wally’s little den, Vilia crouched down and moved the latch on the small wooden house.
The next moment, a white ball of fluff squeezed out of the den. Wally seemed to have grown a size larger than before Vili left, and it was already a bit of a struggle for him to get in and out.
As soon as Wally was out of the den, he charged straight for Vili’s feet. His senses were very sharp; he had already caught Vili’s scent as he approached.
"Vilia, what on earth have you been feeding Wally? It’s only been a few days, how did he get so fat?"
Vili knelt, scooped Wally into his arms, and stroked his smooth fur.
Vilia replied proudly, "As an excellent caretaker, I naturally fed Wally all the best food in the house."
Vili pursed his lips. He had to admit, when a child got serious, they were even more responsible than an adult.
Wally looked perfectly content in Vili’s arms. He could instinctively sense that Vili’s scent was even more pleasant than before he left.
Vili stroked the little white bear while examining his changes.
Besides growing larger, Wally’s fur had also become a purer white, and the faint blue in his pupils seemed to have deepened.
Vili wasn’t too surprised by these changes. As a mutant born from an ordinary beast, it would be abnormal if he *didn’t* change like this.
’Once we get to Fandou Village, I’ll need to build Wally a bigger den to make sure he has enough room to move around.’
Vili thought to himself.
His trip to Bole Forest had taught him just how precious Magical Beasts were. Baron Kels had nearly lost his own son in his quest to obtain one, yet Vili himself had stumbled upon Wally in Morse Forest by sheer chance. It was astonishingly good luck.
’I hope you grow into a powerful Magical Beast. Don’t let me down...’
Vili murmured in his heart, already beginning to plan Wally’s training regimen.
Because they hadn’t seen each other in a while, Wally refused to leave Vili’s arms, curling up inside them. Left with no choice, Vili had to keep holding him. This infuriated Vilia, who stood to the side scolding Wally for being heartless. After all, she was the one who fed him every day, but the moment he saw Vili, he completely ignored her existence.
"Vili, Vilia, it’s time to eat."
Mrs. Shaven’s voice called from inside the house.
"Coming."
Vilia resentfully snatched Wally away and shoved him back into his den. As she did, she muttered, "I’m very disappointed in your behavior today, so no lunch for you..."
At the dinner table.
Lake had rushed home before mealtime, and the family was gathered together.
Because Vili’s return was sudden, Mrs. Shaven hadn’t prepared an overly lavish meal. Still, the mixed rice with rabbit meat and two plates of green vegetables was more than enough to satisfy Vili. This kind of food was a hundred times better than what he’d had when he first transmigrated here.
"Vili, did you receive a reward from the Lord Baron for your service this time?"
Lake asked Vili.
For commoners, the very act of a nobleman bestowing a gift was more important than the gift itself. Gaining a lord’s recognition was the most desirable thing of all. This was a cultural imperative in this world, practically carved into the bones of every commoner.
"Of course. Baron Kels gave me a very generous monetary reward."
Vili swallowed the mouthful of rabbit rice and replied.
Hearing this, smiles unconsciously appeared on Lake and Mrs. Shaven’s faces. Now they could proudly tell others that both of their sons had served the Lord Baron. This would surely earn the envy of all the villagers.
"How much did the Lord Baron reward you with?"
Mrs. Shaven asked. She had to get the details right, as this was the capital she would use to show off to others.
Vili was chewing his food and didn’t have time to speak, so he just held up five fingers.
"Fifty Silver Rums?" Mrs. Shaven nodded. "Fifty Silver Rums... that’s what our family earns in half a year of hard work."
"How could it be?" Lake shook his head, refuting her. "Sopps said the Lord Baron is a generous man. It must be five Gold Rums."
Vili waved his hand, chewing faster to swallow his food. He could already see that in Lake and Mrs. Shaven’s minds, the concept of Gold Rums being counted in the hundreds simply didn’t exist. In the words of his past life, this was probably a case of poverty limiting one’s imagination.
"No? Could it be... fifty Gold Rums?"
Lake’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Mrs. Shaven, however, was calm. "How is that possible? Fifty Gold Rums... that would be an enormous fortune."
Vili finally swallowed his food. He looked at Lake and Mrs. Shaven. "It’s five hundred Gold Rums. Baron Kels rewarded me with five hundred Gold Rums."
Five hundred Gold Rums.
Suddenly, the dinner table fell silent, leaving only the sound of Vilia picking at her rabbit meat rice.
"Oh my heavens!"
Mrs. Shaven clutched her chest, her breathing growing ragged.
Lake swallowed hard, trying his best to maintain his composure as the head of the family, but his trembling hands betrayed his inner turmoil.
"Is... is this real?"
Lake took a deep breath, cautiously asking Vili for confirmation.
Seeing their reactions, Vili knew he had still underestimated the shock that five hundred Gold Rums would deliver to his parents.
"Of course."
Vili continued, not giving the couple a chance to stay stunned, "Because of my outstanding performance, in addition to the five hundred Gold Rums, Baron Kels has also recruited me into his Personal Guard Team and granted me a newly developed village."
"So, we need to move out of Xiangguo Village within the next two days and head to the new village."
Vili said it all in one breath.
"I need a moment to calm down."
Lake couldn’t hold it together any longer. He picked up his porridge with trembling hands, and after taking a difficult sip, a few grains of rice were left sticking around his mouth.
Seeing Lake like this, Mrs. Shaven found it amusing and felt much more relieved herself.
"Where are we moving to?"
At a time like this, only Vilia could remain so calm. Although she knew five hundred Gold Rums was probably a huge sum, as a child, she didn’t quite grasp the true meaning of that number. She was more concerned about where the new village was.
"It’s northeast of Diamond Town, very close to it."
Vili explained.
Vilia nodded and went back to eating.
Lake had managed to compose himself by now. He took a sharp breath. "Since it’s a village granted by the Lord Baron, we should move over as quickly as possible. The day after tomorrow—no, tomorrow! We’ll move tomorrow!"
