I Transmigrated as a Peasant, but My System Wanna Make Me a Duke!
Chapter 39: Knight Jarvis
Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Knight Jarvis
The Snow Pattern Deer turned its head, and Helai saw a pair of eyes that sparkled as brilliantly as crystals.
Helai shivered. In the Snow Pattern Deer’s gaze, he saw killing intent—the vicious glint all beasts have in their eyes before a hunt.
The old hunter’s decisiveness was on full display. Without a moment’s hesitation, Helai turned and fled.
Sure enough, the Snow Pattern Deer immediately rose, darted out from under a large boulder, and charged toward him. Helai glanced back and saw fresh red bloodstains on the deer’s underbelly and two hind legs. A flicker of joy sparked in his heart. ’It looks like the Snow Pattern Deer was already injured.’ With this, he might even have a chance to turn the tables and kill it.
But in the next moment, that thought was completely extinguished.
The Snow Pattern Deer opened its great maw, and a cloud of white, icy mist shot out.
Horrified, Helai threw himself into a sideways roll, dodging the icy mist.
After Helai dodged it, the icy mist sprayed directly onto a clump of grass. The blades visibly froze into ice crystals. A light breeze swept past, and the frozen grass dissolved into a flurry of snowy dust.
Helai’s heart clenched, and his legs went weak with fear. If that blast of icy mist had hit him, he would have likely been scattered to the winds.
No longer daring to hesitate, Helai fumbled for a Signal Arrow as he fled, pulled the string, and hastily fired it into the sky.
WHOOSH!
The Signal Arrow soared into the sky and exploded. A moment later, multicolored smoke filled the air.
’Sir Bamos, please, hurry up and save me!’
Helai felt death closing in and prayed silently. ℯℯ𝑙.
At that moment, Vili was about to rest for a bit when he suddenly heard a muffled sonic boom from the distant sky. Immediately after, a cloud of multicolored smoke appeared in that same patch of sky.
’Someone fired a Signal Arrow! It looks like they’ve already found traces of the Snow Pattern Deer.’
Vili made a snap decision and immediately headed toward the location where the Signal Arrow was fired.
Even though he wasn’t the first to find it, he could still participate in the ensuing capture. As long as he helped secure the Snow Pattern Deer, he would still receive the one hundred Gold Rums reward. Of course, the most important reason driving Vili to hurry over was his Title Attribute Panel. A direct confrontation with an adult Magical Beast like the Snow Pattern Deer might just earn him a new title.
In the vast Bole Forest, Vili wasn’t the only one who saw the signal. At the same time, nearly every Hunter in the vicinity noticed the strange sight. They all had the same thought: get to the scene as quickly as possible. In the Hunters’ eyes, that wasn’t a Snow Pattern Deer; it was a massive fortune on the move—a full one hundred Gold Rums.
"Young Master Bamos, Lord Olay! A Signal Arrow was fired in Bole Forest!"
A Guard suddenly burst in from outside the tent, reporting to Bamos and Olay, who were seated.
Fewer than ten Guards remained in the camp; all the others had already been dispatched into Bole Forest.
"Excellent!"
Bamos and Olay exchanged a look, each seeing the excitement in the other’s eyes.
’Once the Snow Pattern Deer’s trail is found, the rest will be much simpler.’
"Gather everyone who’s left! We’re all going!"
Bamos commanded the Guard.
"Yes, sir."
After receiving his orders, the Guard quickly retreated from the tent.
Bamos and Olay both felt a sense of relief. The Snow Pattern Deer was a target Baron Kels had to secure, and the Lord Baron had placed immense importance on it, which in turn had put a great deal of pressure on them.
The two of them donned their gear and were about to leave the tent when they suddenly heard several screams from outside.
Bamos and Olay exchanged a glance and hurried out of the tent.
The door flap was lifted, revealing a young man with long golden hair standing at the front of the camp.
He held a broad-bladed Cross Sword, with three Guards lying fallen at his side. The remaining five or six Guards surrounded him.
"You’re... Jarvis!"
The moment he saw the blond young man, Olay’s expression turned grim, as if he were facing a formidable enemy.
Upon hearing the name Jarvis, a deep hostility also surfaced in Bamos’s eyes.
Jarvis. Nephew of Baron Enton of Blue Whale Town and Captain of his Personal Guard Team, he possessed true Knight Power. His presence here could only mean one thing: he was after the Snow Pattern Deer.
"Jarvis, attacking people on Diamond Town’s territory is a violation of the nobles’ pact. Aren’t you afraid Lord Baron Kels will report you to Count Lumbar?"
Olay’s hand was already on the hilt of his cross-guard.
Jarvis smiled. "A violation of the nobles’ pact? I’ve merely come to Diamond Town to retrieve something that belongs to Baron Enton."
"There is nothing here that belongs to Baron Enton. Please leave at once!"
Olay’s tone was hostile. He had already drawn his Cross Sword and was prepared to fight at a moment’s notice.
Jarvis sneered, the smile vanishing from his face. "Leave? I can do that. But before I do, Sir Olay, I’d like to cross swords with you and see what you’re made of."
Olay’s heart tightened. He had already guessed Jarvis’s objective: to stall him and give Baron Enton’s other men a chance to kill the Snow Pattern Deer.
"Bamos, you go on ahead and capture the Snow Pattern Deer. I’ll catch up after I shake this guy off," Olay said to Bamos.
"Alright."
Without hesitating, Bamos took a few Guards and rushed directly into Bole Forest.
Jarvis didn’t try to stop them. In his eyes, Olay was his only enemy.
"Come on!"
Jarvis suddenly erupted with power, swinging his Cross Sword and unleashing a slash of white Sword Qi.
Olay met him head-on, his body surging with Fighting Spirit.
...
’It should be somewhere around here.’
Vili hadn’t been far from where the Signal Arrow was fired. Rushing at full speed, it had only taken him five minutes to arrive.
Vili came to a halt. He could already feel the surrounding air growing colder, so he began searching the area for traces of the Snow Pattern Deer.
’There.’
With eyes like a hawk, Vili instantly spotted a trail of frosty hoofprints on the ground not far away.
The frosty hoofprints had mostly melted; some had even evaporated, leaving only faint traces behind.
Seeing this, Vili followed the hoofprints forward.
Suddenly, Vili heard a blood-curdling scream.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Vili leaped into a tree and looked in the direction of the scream.
In the distance stood the Snow Pattern Deer. In front of it was Helai, the man who had provoked him earlier.
At that moment, a nearly meter-long Ice Cone was impaled in Helai’s chest.
A frigid chill spread from the Ice Cone throughout Helai’s body, quickly freezing him into a block of ice.
The Snow Pattern Deer stepped forward and brought a hoof down on the frozen Helai’s head.
CRACK!
Helai instantly shattered into a gruesome spray of ice and gore, scattering across the ground.
