I Transmigrated as a Peasant, but My System Wanna Make Me a Duke!
Chapter 149: Sea Elf Maiden
Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Sea Elf Maiden
Seeing how happy Wally was, Vili’s somber mood lightened.
After all, as the Lord of White Bear Town, having such an unfriendly guest show up on his shores was hardly a good thing.
"But while we’re out fishing tonight, we have another task. We need to find a Sea Elf..."
Vili described the Sea Elf’s features to Wally. With his current level of intelligence, Wally could clearly understand what Vili meant.
Wally listened intently, then gave a very solemn nod once Vili had finished.
Teaming up with Wally to find the malevolent Sea Elf was the best solution Vili had come up with so far.
According to Mibu, the main reason Sea Elves approached Humans was out of curiosity for land-dwelling creatures.
But now that the Sea Elf had already encountered Humans on the coast, its curiosity toward them should have waned.
If Wally were to appear, this never-before-seen, land-dwelling white bear should also pique the Sea Elf’s interest.
In essence, Wally was bait—but bait that could turn the tables on the predator.
Furthermore, Vili himself possessed the Ability of the One-Engraving Hanged Man, making him highly sensitive to malicious intent. As a mutated Bronze Level Magical Beast, Wally’s Perception Ability was just as formidable.
This would allow them to easily detect any foreign visitors in the nearby waters.
Vili had made his decision based on these two factors.
...
「Nightfall. The seashore.」
A cool sea breeze drifted by as waves churned endlessly on the water’s surface.
Wally splashed happily in the seawater. Even though summer had yet to arrive and the sea was cold at night, it was no problem at all for him.
He suddenly dove into the water, his round body surprisingly agile.
He swam about freely, just like a fish.
Whenever he spotted a tasty-looking fish, Wally would accelerate with a few quick strokes, open his mouth, and gobble it down.
Wally was quite content with this easy way of hunting and eating. ℴ
As for Vili, he sat on the nearby beach, waiting for their potential guest.
He didn’t bother to hide. Based on the Sea Elf’s previous behavior, it would strike at one target or two all the same.
Vili and Wally stayed by the sea for the entire night, but they didn’t see so much as a shadow of the Sea Elf.
’Looks like our guest from the deep sea isn’t coming tonight.’
When the sky began to lighten, Vili and Wally stopped waiting and returned to the manor.
After all, considering the time of the Sea Elf’s previous attacks, it was likely one of those creatures that detested sunlight. The chances of it appearing during the day were slim.
Vili and Wally continued their nightly vigil by the sea, but still came up empty.
This continued until the ninth night. The air was cool, the clouds were thick, and the stars were dim.
It was midnight. Wally lay beside Vili, looking listless and drowsy.
The novelty had worn off for Wally. Paddling and catching fish held less and less appeal.
He much preferred lying by Vili’s side, basking in the warmth and closeness of being with him.
’Has our guest from the deep sea gone home already?’
While that would have been a good outcome, Vili was still unhappy about losing two of his Guards for nothing. That, combined with his curiosity about this marine Extraordinary Creature, meant that deep down, he still hoped it would appear one last time.
The man and the bear waited in silence.
Vili had already decided that if the Sea Elf didn’t appear tonight, he would put the capture plan on hold for the time being.
Wally’s eyes slowly drooped shut, as if he were about to doze off.
The overexcitement of the past few days had left Wally feeling a little exhausted.
The same was true for Vili; his patience had nearly run out.
However, just then, a soft, beautiful melody, mingled with the sound of the waves, slowly drifted to Vili’s and Wally’s ears.
The moment Vili heard the sound, he realized what was happening. But an instant later, a powerful force of attraction began to pull at his consciousness, as if drawing him into a warm embrace.
Beside him, Wally’s eyes glazed over, his consciousness seemingly fading.
’Something’s wrong!’
Just as Vili was about to succumb, a sudden warning flared in his mind, pulling his consciousness back from the brink.
Vili instantly activated the Power of Justice and Knight’s Power within him, completely shattering the song’s hallucinatory shackles.
"Wally!"
Vili gave Wally’s ear a hard tug. Wally jolted, snapping out of it instantly.
An expression of pure rage appeared on his face, as if he felt extreme fury toward the creature that had ensnared him with its song.
They had come to catch fish, but now he had almost been caught *by* a fish. The Thunderous Fierce Bear was furious.
"Look there!"
Vili suddenly saw a line of white surf rise up on the sea surface not far away as the water parted.
A maiden emerged from the water, wearing nothing but a seaweed top that covered her upper chest.
Her face was enchantingly beautiful, her features exquisite. Her delicate skin was as smooth and flawless as polished jade.
The maiden had a graceful, slender upper body, but her lower half was a shimmering, dark blue fishtail.
At the center of her brow was a faint purple stripe.
Vili’s pupils contracted sharply.
’A Purple-striped Sea Elf! An evil, chaotic race of deep-sea Extraordinary Creatures!’
"Go, Wally!"
Vili had no time to think. Whether for the safety of White Bear Town or to satisfy his own curiosity, this Purple-striped Sea Elf had to be captured.
Wally let out a guttural roar that turned into a bellow. His cute appearance vanished in an instant as knotted muscles rippled across his body. His frame swelled abruptly, transforming him into a Violent Bear.
Vili drew the Swift Sword from his waist and ran directly across the surface of the water.
With his current mastery over his Fighting Spirit, Vili could run on water for short periods.
When the Purple-striped Sea Elf Maiden saw this, a flash of surprise crossed her eyes.
She had thought her song had already dragged the Human and the unknown white creature into an illusion. She never expected that the two land-dwellers would break free from her control, one after the other, and charge her instead.
But the Sea Elf Maiden showed no intention of fleeing. Instead, a strange smile touched the corners of her lips.
The maiden gently parted her flame-red lips, and an even more bizarre and beautiful melody poured from her mouth.
The song was like the world’s most enthralling embrace, tempting one to fall into it and never leave.
