Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Extraordinary Creatures in the Ocean

Since there were Transcendents and Magical Beasts on land, it was only natural for Sirens and other Sea Beasts to exist in the ocean.

In his previous life, Sirens were mostly depicted as half-human, half-fish.

Legend had it that the earliest Sirens were incredibly hideous, terrifying people so much that they dared not approach the shore. Later, however, when they found themselves running out of prey, they began transforming into beautiful women, using their enchanting voices to lure Humans in before devouring them.

But the current situation didn’t quite match the typical signs of a Siren attack. Although the guards’ expressions were peaceful in death—as if intoxicated by a beautiful melody—their necks had merely been bitten through; they hadn’t been eaten. This was entirely different from the Siren hunting methods of his previous life.

Therefore, there were currently no clues as to what kind of creature had bitten these two guards to death. It remained a complete mystery.

"Let’s go take a look." Vili didn’t even bother washing up. He threw on his coat directly.

Just as he and Dane were about to step out of the manor, he suddenly ordered, "Send someone to fetch Mibu as well."

"Yes." Dane nodded and turned to instruct the other guards.

Dane didn’t think much of Mibu. In his eyes, Mibu was just a freeloader who had only caught Vili’s attention because of his slightly broader life experience.

As the sun rose, its golden rays spilled across the surface of the sea. A section of the beach had been cordoned off; neither fishermen nor fishing boats were allowed to approach.

Soon, Vili and Dane arrived on horseback.

"Where are the bodies?" Vili asked.

The guards on duty were quite surprised; they hadn’t expected Baron Vili to come in person. At this moment, they all had their own speculations. The deaths of these two guards were probably not simple at all, otherwise, it wouldn’t have alarmed the Lord Baron.

"Over here." Dane led Vili straight to a nearby stretch of sand.

Three or four guards stood watch at the edge of the beach. Behind them were corpses covered with white cloths.

"Uncover them," Dane ordered a guard.

The guard complied and pulled back the white cloths.

Two guards, fully clad in their Armor, lay on the ground. Their skin was pale, and their faces were serene, with peaceful smiles resting on their lips. On each of their necks was a dense row of teeth marks that had pierced entirely through.

The state of the bodies was almost exactly as Dane had described.

A strange look flashed across Vili’s eyes. He crouched down and carefully examined the wounds.

"This aura..." He sensed a thick, lingering malice radiating from the two corpses. As a One-Engraving Hanged Man, he was highly sensitive to this kind of evil Energy. When facing certain evil creatures, even if they lacked a moral compass of good and evil, Origin Energy would naturally suppress them, much like Light suppressing darkness.

According to the records in his memory, only Extraordinary Creatures could exude such sheer malice. Vili was almost completely certain of this.

"An Extraordinary Creature from the ocean?" Vili stood up and gazed out at the sea. Looking at the churning waves and the boundless horizon, a profound look surfaced in his eyes.

Back in the old days of Blue Whale Town, there were hardly any legends about sea monsters circulating around here. But now, a suspected Extraordinary Marine Creature had actually appeared, leaving Vili feeling somewhat helpless.

"Lord Baron!"

Amidst Vili’s thoughts, he heard Mibu’s voice. CLOP CLOP CLOP. Mibu rushed over on a pony. With his slightly bloated figure, he gripped the pony’s head to dismount with great difficulty, even stumbling carelessly in the process.

Mibu put on a bright smile and said to Vili, "Good morning, Lord Baron. You summoned me here this time for...?"

Mibu deeply respected this young Baron, though the frequency of these summons was a bit high, making him slightly uncomfortable.

"You’re here." Vili pointed at the two bodies. "You once told me that you lived by the sea for a time, heard many bizarre tales of the ocean, and even saw certain eerie marine creatures with your own eyes. Is that true?"

"Yes, Lord Baron," Mibu nodded and replied respectfully. "I once traveled to the Soron Duchy and lived in a coastal town there for a while. Many legends about mysterious marine creatures circulated in that town, and I even caught a glimpse of them a few times."

"Good." Vili nodded. This was the most important reason why he had recruited Mibu. With his rich reserve of practical knowledge, Mibu could always offer some pointers when Vili faced problems he couldn’t handle or comprehend.

"Take a look at these two bodies. Does their cause of death overlap with anything in your memory?" Vili said, pointing at the dead guards.

Hearing this, Mibu looked down, finally noticing the two corpses. He showed no signs of panic or repulsion. Having wandered through three different countries for over twenty years, he had experienced far too many dangerous situations and seen his fair share of dead bodies. Just two corpses weren’t enough to scare him.

"Huh?" After just a single glance, a look of surprise washed over Mibu’s face. He quickly crouched down to examine them.

"These wounds..." Seeing the smiles on the corpses, Mibu formed a few theories in his mind. When he looked at the wounds on their necks, he was almost certain.

"What is it? Do you know what killed them?" Standing to the side and observing Mibu’s expression, Vili knew he had found something.

Mibu nodded and replied, "While I can’t be a hundred percent certain, I’m at least ninety percent sure."

"What kind of creature is the killer?" Vili immediately asked. Even Dane, who hadn’t looked Mibu straight in the eye all morning, leaned in, waiting for his answer.

Seeing how deeply Vili cared about this, Mibu didn’t dare beat around the bush with a story. He answered straightforwardly, "It should be a Sea Elf."

"A Sea Elf?" Vili furrowed his brows, a trace of confusion in his eyes.

He had never heard of this species. Even within the memories of Bronze Level Magical Beasts granted by his Middle Level Beast Tamer title, no such species existed. In that case, this Sea Elf had to be a unique marine creature, entirely distinct from Magical Beasts and Humans.

"What is a Sea Elf?" Dane’s face was equally filled with bewilderment. He had never heard the name either, so he turned to Mibu for an explanation.

Mibu shot Dane a sideways glance, the corners of his mouth twitching into a slight sneer. He had long noticed Dane’s disdain for him, and he had no desire to entertain this arrogant fellow.

However, seeing the expectant look on Vili’s face, Mibu had no choice but to answer honestly.
