Chapter 272: Chapter 244: Stunning the Audience
Just as the Spirit Wind Python made its move, the Cold Pool Giant Crocodile and the Dragon Scale Pangolin followed suit. They dared not be complacent against the Celestial Cyan Sub-Dragon.
"ROAR!!!"
The Cold Pool Giant Crocodile roared. The ice crystals protruding from its back began to flash, refracting countless images of their surroundings. Then, enormous Ice Crystal Pillars shot out from its back, one after another, releasing a bone-chilling aura that caused the air temperature to plummet.
Even the Spirit Wind Python’s Divine Technique was affected. Its wind-water vortex was instantly coated in a fine layer of ice crystals.
The stream of Ice Crystal Pillars began to converge in mid-air. They folded over one another, interlocking layer by layer, until a massive, symmetrical Ice Crystal Shield blotted out the sky. It floated in the air, positioned to block the falling sun and moon.
The Dragon Scale Pangolin’s attack was more direct and brutal. Streaks of flame, cloaked in an earthen glow, flew from its body and, in a mere instant, converged to form the massive silhouette of a volcano.
The surrounding Spiritual Qi surged violently. The once-frigid air began to heat up. In an instant, the arena became a world of two extremes—ice and fire. The contrast was so stark that the very void began to twist and warp.
The volcanic silhouette was immense. As it erupted, flaming meteorites rained down, tearing across the sky to be the first to collide with the falling sun and moon.
"SCREEE!!!"
The Celestial Cyan Sub-Dragon shrieked, its Dragon’s Roar stirring the heavens. The Celestial Cyan Day and Moonlight continued to contract, the might of the sun and moon within it growing even more potent as it descended in an instant.
BOOM! BOOM!!!
A series of deafening explosions rang through the void. Shockwaves rippled outward, and even the magically reinforced protective barrier hummed and trembled ceaselessly.
Terrifying energy fluctuations raged within the unending storm. As the Celestial Fire Meteorites crashed into the sun and moon, the sky instantly changed color. A crimson radiance filled one half, while a flickering cyan light dominated the other.
The two powers each occupied half the sky, evenly matched and locked in a stalemate. However, it was clear that the cyan light held the advantage, as it steadily devoured the other side.
The Celestial Cyan Sub-Dragon swam through the cyan light, its immense draconic might sweeping in all directions. Its movements stirred the winds, scattering clouds and sending sand and stones flying.
"To think he can actually hold his own against Yang Chengxu’s Celestial Cyan Sub-Dragon. This generation of disciples from the Wanxiang Sect’s Beast Taming Peak has more prodigies than I expected. This Li Minghan... he’s no simple character."
Atop the high platform, Mu Yongxian rose to his feet, a hint of shock on his face. He pursed his lips as he watched Li Minghan in the arena, the light in his eyes flickering indecisively.
He wasn’t the only one; even Mo Pengchen was somewhat surprised. He didn’t let it show, however, merely nodding to himself.
’Not bad. This boy has had his own fortunate encounters. It seems my Beast Taming Peak is quite full of talent after all. They’re just usually so low-key.’
He didn’t think Li Minghan would win the battle, but he had to admit that his performance was already astonishing.
"Mo Pengchen’s Beast Taming Peak is truly full of hidden masters. Besides Zhang Tianwen, there’s also Yu Changsheng. I thought that was surprising enough, but now a Li Minghan has appeared. I’m impressed."
After a long moment, Mu Yongxian’s expression returned to calm. He glanced at Mo Pengchen and spoke lightly.
"We can’t compare to your Spirit Dragon Sect. The boy just has a few tricks up his sleeve, that’s all. He’s still a long way from catching up to Yang Chengxu."
Mo Pengchen chuckled and spoke softly.
Mu Yongxian shook his head, his eyes shifting. "Peak Master Mo, you’re too humble. For this boy to have a Contract with a Spirit Beast that has the Red Mountain Spirit Dragon Bloodline, his future is limitless. It’s just..."
He paused, a look of regret on his face. "It’s a pity. A tamer of Dragon-type Imperial Beasts... if he were in my Spirit Dragon Sect, we would naturally spare no effort in nurturing him, allowing him to mature with the best resources. Only then could he reach his absolute peak."
"Peak Master Mu need not worry about this matter. He is a disciple of my Wanxiang Sect, and I will naturally see to it that he is cultivated into a great talent. Most importantly, the boy’s heart lies with the sect. He is devoted to the Wanxiang Sect, so I can’t very well break his heart, now can I?"
Mo Pengchen said this lightly, raising an eyebrow, his words carrying a pointed undertone.
"Indeed." Mu Yongxian nodded and sighed wistfully. He gave a faint smile and said no more, turning his head to continue observing the situation on the stage. No one could know what he was truly thinking.
In truth, Mu Yongxian felt a growing bitterness. He had come to the Wanxiang Sect this time specifically to humiliate them. So far, however, nothing was going as smoothly as he had planned.
The biggest unexpected factor had been yesterday’s battle. He never would have imagined that Tang Chen—whose combat power had become terrifying after taking a power-enhancing pill—would still be slain by Yu Changsheng.
In his mind, the worst-case scenario should have been both of them perishing together.
From that moment on, Mu Yongxian’s confidence in this competition, which had once been absolute, began to waver.
’If we really fail to take first place this time, and on top of that, lose a disciple here... then this entire trip for the Spirit Dragon Sect will be a complete joke.’
The thought flashed through his mind, startling even Mu Yongxian himself. He quickly shook his head, his heart pounding with alarm.
’Impossible. With Yang Chengxu competing... not even Zhang Tianwen can cause an upset. There won’t be any accidents.’
At this thought, Mu Yongxian’s heart settled, and he calmed down considerably.
After all, if that scenario were to actually unfold, he, the Peak Master, would face punishment. In the worst-case scenario, he might even lose his position.
Although at his Realm of Cultivation, he didn’t care too much about his reputation, such a failure would still leave a stain on his heart. It would become difficult to maintain a firm Dao Heart.
’Especially in the future... that guy Mo Pengchen would have something to hold over my head wherever I go...’
