I Swear I'm Not a Demon Masquerading as a Human
Chapter 79: The Poet of Boundless Loves Time of Joy
Chapter 79: The Poet of Boundless Love's Time of Joy
A dim, amber light was cast over the ancient corridor. Time itself felt like it was frozen. The demons from the Inspectorate had been gazing around in bewilderment, and they instantly descended into a state of panicked disarray after hearing that news. Confused, argumentative voices erupted.
Eventually, everyone turned toward the Poet of Boundless Love. Bathed in the light, she looked like the sole protagonist. The remaining demons from the Inspectorate finally grasped the reality of the situation. Out of sheer disbelief, they shouted at the Poet and the deputy headmaster, "You actually betrayed our commander and the vampire envoy!"
Despite their anger, the Poet rose unhurriedly from the ground, looking as elegant as ever. She tilted her chin upward slightly, challenging the demons of the guard unit with a voice that was sweet yet laced with provocation.
"You all saw it earlier, didn't you? I tried to reason with the vampire envoy. I even held him back. Every word I spoke was the truth, but he wouldn't listen, isn't that right? So what are you doing now? Are you refusing to listen to reason? Do you intend to bully a helpless woman like me?"
The leader of the guard unit gritted his teeth. His mind was in turmoil, and he was unable to formulate a reply. In fact, they had heard the acting headmaster offering her earnest advice to the vampire envoy. She had done it multiple times while they were in the corridor leading to the second floor!
Another adjutant fixed a stern gaze upon the Poet. He had come up with a pretext, and he was ready to use force to apprehend the acting headmaster as he snarled, "You dared to set a trap within the academy! Do you realize the consequences of doing so?"
"A trap? What are you talking about? I don't understand." The Poet narrowed her left eye slightly and shook her head with a mocking smile.
Before she could offer any further explanation, the deputy headmaster stepped forward, radiating a terrifying surge of power. He shouted down at the squad that had attempted to act insolently, "Performances in this theater, which has been bestowed by the Demon King himself, are constantly being broadcast by the Demon Eye to the high nobility! They can all attest that this is a perfectly ordinary show, not some trap we've laid! It was simply that vampire envoy who insisted on forcing his way in!"
His voice boomed like rolling thunder, echoing repeatedly through the dim corridor.
The guards, who had been on the verge of a confrontation, gradually stepped back. The school's explanation was watertight. The more the deputy headmaster spoke, the more the Inspectorate realized they had no leg to stand on!
Moreover, even if they wanted to go in and rescue the vampire envoy and their commander, no one dared to breach that massive gateway. It was a threshold from which there was surely no return!
The Poet took on a resolute, heroic air as she sternly commanded, "Seal off the entrance tightly! We cannot allow such a tragedy to happen again!"
"Understood, Headmaster." The deputy headmaster took the lead, stationing himself along with a group of senior instructors right in front of the theater doors in the corridor.
"You all!!!"
The guards knew full well that these wretched teachers were blatantly cutting off any possibility of rescuing the vampire envoy and their commanding officer. Yet, this shameless acting headmaster had occupied the moral high ground, leaving them no room to argue back!
The two sides now remain locked in a standoff in the corridor. As the guards calmed down and thought it over, a terrifying realization began to dawn on them. The Inspectorate and the Department of Education had already acted against the academy beforehand, specifically transferring away the terrifyingly strong actual headmaster.
However, not only had an acting headmaster emerged out of nowhere, but she had also effortlessly outmaneuvered both the vampire envoy and the Inspectorate.
This all seemed like a perfect coincidence, yet there was an undeniable sense of inevitability to it, as if there was a massive hand pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Therefore, there was likely a powerful figure backing the school administration!
If they continued to clash with the school, none of the Inspectorate guards present might make it out alive. They could even be killed without a trace left behind! But they dared not return in disgrace either. Failing to safely escort the vampire envoy back meant certain death for them as well!
Consequently, the demons from the Inspectorate felt as though they were being tortured. They were on pins and needles and trapped in a stalemate at the entrance to Corridor No. 24, unable to advance or retreat.
Seeing them suffer like this, the Poet smiled with satisfaction, as if she had just enjoyed a hearty meal. Tossing her silky gray hair behind her, she turned and walked away, unburdened by further concerns. "Deputy Headmaster, I leave the task of sealing Corridor No. 24 to you."
She had done the heavy lifting. It was time for her to go and relax.
The deputy headmaster bowed to her retreating figure, speaking with deep gratitude, "Rest assured, Madam."
He knew that expressing his gratitude to this noble lady demon would also convey the message to that great figure.

The Poet walked along a labyrinthine corridor with an architectural style that was strikingly distinct from the rest. Although patrolling instructors were present, whenever they caught sight of this gray haired demon in a crimson dress passing by, they would respectfully nod in greeting.
She was studying the map in her hand. Just as she was about to step onto the next corridor, Hyperion finally materialized beside her, having dropped her invisibility. She had previously acted as bait to lure the vampire envoy into the theater.
Having already developed some resistance to sonic magic, she had taken precautionary measures beforehand, allowing her to safely break free from the theater's control. Once she confirmed the vampire envoy was immobilized, she had slipped away unnoticed while still invisible.
Hyperion sighed heavily as she reported, "Tell Lance not to worry. I've confirmed that the vampire envoy and the other officers from the Inspectorate have all joined the grand chorus of that musical performance."
During this brief twelve-hour visit to Purgatory Corridor Academy, she had likely squandered all the merit points she had accumulated from her lifetime. Hyperion knew that through the Poet, she could contact Lance, who was currently hard at work in the headmaster's office. That guy had completely convinced himself he was the headmaster.
The Poet nodded, communicating telepathically with Lance. She soon smiled and said, "He says thank you for your hard work and wants you to take me out for some fun."
Aside from Lance, Hyperion was the person she was most familiar with. Moreover, for some reason, she always felt a sense of affinity emanating from this girl with demon blood. It was almost as if there were a faint blood connection between them.
Hyperion opened her hand, revealing a handful of ten-credit coins. "Go wherever you like."
She felt like she was gradually turning into a babysitter. The final task Lance had assigned her was to accompany the Poet to the school's functional zones as a treat. While ostensibly it was about giving the Poet a good time, the real objective was to have Hyperion keep an eye on this demon, whose abilities were far too unpredictable.
The Poet happily broke into a joyful dance right where she stood. "Haha, watch me burn through his mana reserves and have a blast!"
Lance had promised to let her enjoy a spell of pure freedom once she finished this task for him, and he had kept his word. Of course, he likely didn't dare let her out in the real world, so he was taking this opportunity, while they were in a Shadow Realm dungeon that had already been cleared, to let her run wild and stretch her legs a bit.
Hyperion leaned in, looking at the map in the Poet's hands as she asked, "Where do you want to go?"
She knew that an Epic summon like the Poet possessed her own unique consciousness and personality, but she had no idea what kind of creepy things a genuine demon with such a nasty personality would actually like.
"First, let's go to the Demon King's Bestowed Restaurant to grab a bite, and then I want to check out the Demon Kingdom's Botanical Garden."
The Poet walked ahead with a cheerful spring in her step, unable to contain her excitement. Hyperion tilted her head in puzzlement. Could it be that the thing this gray-haired succubus loved most were plants and flowers?
