I Summon Female Knights

Chapter 89: Vanessa’s Worry and Decision

  • Next Chapter

Three days before the sky shattered into gold and silver, the gothic towers bloomed into alabaster marble, and the ancient seal dissolved within the sovereign’s core, the quiet within The Iron Spire was absolute, but to Vanessa, it felt suffocating.

She stood alone on the secluded observation balcony of the high spire, her fingers resting lightly against the cold stone railing. Below her, the dark floating drift islands hovered in the endless purple gloom of the Sky-Shattered Vault. The cold void-wind whipped through her dark silk robes, but her mind was far removed from the howling abyss.

Her violet eyes were fixed on the central tower behind her, where Raphael sat upon his obsidian throne in quiet, unyielding contemplation.

She had watched him closely. Every step, every command, every subtle shift in his posture had been parsed through the lens of a being who had lived through centuries of world-shaping conflicts, fallen empires, and self-destructive tyrants. She was not merely a loyal advisor; she was a creature born of ancient shadowed halls, acquainted with the subtle decay that claims powerful men when they cast away the weight of their own humanity.

When Raphael had first awakened in this realm, he had been... different.

He was a young man thrust into an impossible hierarchy, possessing an astonishing latent power, yet carrying the unmistakable, lingering flaws of an immature mortal. He had been hesitant at times, reactive, carrying a chip on his shoulder, and driven by a raw, unrefined desire to prove himself. He was impulsive, rough around the edges, and wore his human frustration like a loose cloak.

Back then, Vanessa had stepped into her role as his primary advisor with deliberate intent.

She had offered him refined counsel, the necessity of absolute authority, and the strategic detachment required to command elite constructs and navigate corporate shadow wars. She had shaped him, guiding his raw potential away from reckless emotional outbursts and moulding him into a true ruler, and he had learned, but he had learned far too well.

Vanessa closed her eyes, taking a slow, quiet breath.

The change in Raphael had not been gradual, but it had been terrifyingly abrupt. In a span of weeks, the immature young man had transformed into an almost completely unfeeling entity. The warmth of his human eyes had been replaced by a cold, calculating silver glare that mapped the world purely in terms of assets, tactical threats, and regional consolidation.

He no longer laughed. He no longer hesitated. He executed apex beasts without a flicker of emotion, viewed millions of human lives in Jiston as mere numbers on an intelligence screen, and moved through his domain with the mechanical, terrifying precision of a god carved from dark ice.

Part of her, the part of her bound to The Iron Spire’s dark architecture, rejoiced in that power.

It was intoxicating to serve a Sovereign whose strength was absolute, whose strategic foresight was flawless, and whose presence could crush B-Tier anomalies into the stone with a single word. He was untouchable. He was the ultimate apex predator in a world tumbling toward a chaotic continental convergence.

Yet, deep within her soul, her ancient wisdom whispered a harsh, uncomfortable truth: This path leads only to ruin.

Vanessa had seen beings like his current self before. Kings who shed every drop of their mortal heart to become perfect, unfeeling weapons. They built impenetrable fortresses, conquered continents, and crushed their enemies into dust, but in the end, they built nothing that lasted. They created domains of dead stone and hollow compliance. They did not bring life, hope, or a lasting empire. They brought only an inevitable cycle of doom, cold isolation, and ultimate regret.

A monarch who felt nothing would eventually care for nothing, and a sovereign who cared for nothing would ultimately destroy the very world he sought to rule.

"I did this," Vanessa murmured to the howling wind, her voice laced with a rare, heavy melancholy.

The realization settled over her chest like lead. It was her own words, her own ruthless guidance, and her constant emphasis on absolute efficiency that had accelerated his transformation. She had pushed him to abandon his childish hesitations, but in doing so, she had accidentally guided him straight toward a cold, mechanical void. She had helped build a tyrant who was rapidly slipping into a state of total, soulless detachment.

She turned away from the balcony, her dark silk robes sweeping across the stone floor as she walked slowly down the high arched corridor toward her private sanctum.

She entered her quarters, a spacious chamber carved from dark marble, illuminated only by the faint, purple glow of her relic-staff resting against the altar. She walked to the large full-length mirror mounted on the wall, stopping to look at her reflection.

The mirror reflected a woman of breathtaking, supernatural beauty. Her flawless pale skin contrasted sharply with her dark hair and striking, luminous violet eyes. Her figure was immaculate, carrying a quiet, majestic grace that exuded both dangerous authority and undeniable, intoxicating allure. She was a Dark Saintess... a creature who took immense, unyielding pride in her dignity, her station, and her physical form.

For centuries, she had viewed her beauty and her body as sacred assets, never to be compromised, cheapened, or used as trivial bargaining chips, even when she’d been deemed a heretic, but as she stared at her reflection, her violet eyes hardened with an unshakeable, desperate resolve.

She could not allow Raphael to complete his descent into that unfeeling abyss. She could not stand by and watch the man who anchored her existence turn into a soulless puppet of pure power. If he continued down this road, he would conquer Earth only to sit alone upon a throne of ash, completely hollowed out by his own absolute logic.

She had to change his mindset again. She had to pull him back from the precipice before it was too late.

If gentle advice and tactical counsel were no longer enough to pierce his cold, calculating shell, then she would use every single asset at her disposal. She would push him, challenge him, and ground him back to the physical world. She would remind him of what it meant to feel, to desire, and to be human.

Even if it meant offering her own body to him.

The thought made her heart beat faster, a faint flush touching her pale cheeks. It was an incredible departure from her prideful, aloof nature, but she did not flinch from the decision. To her, her body was her ultimate sanctuary, something she held in the greatest pride, and if offering that sanctuary was what it took to anchor Raphael’s slipping humanity, she would give it willingly, without a shred of hesitation.

"You will not become a ghost in your own throne, Lord Raphael," Vanessa spoke softly to the silent room, her voice trembling with intense, absolute devotion. "I guided you into the dark... and I will be the one to drag you back into the light."

She stepped away from the mirror, picking up her staff from the altar.

She did not know that deep within the throne room, Raphael was about to slip into the meditative coma that would bring him face-to-face with his past self. She did not know that his soul was already fighting its own silent war against the synthetic monarch waiting in the void.

All she knew was that her loyalty was no longer just about obeying his commands. It was about saving his soul.

Vanessa pulled her dark hood over her brow, her violet eyes burning with a fierce, protective light as she stepped back into the corridor to guard his silent form.

She would stick by his side. She would serve as his advisor, his shield, and his anchor. And no matter how cold he became, she would spend every breath breaking through his ice until he learned to live again.
