Chapter 721: Chapter 438: Mutated Spirit Fruit

It was a little past five in the afternoon, and the sun was about to set. The brilliant red sunset dyed the snow-white clouds a crimson color.

Small flocks of birds occasionally returned from the horizon, settling in the leafy trees of the residential complexes and chattering noisily from the branches.

「Rongxi Primary School.」

At this hour, school had been out for a while. All the students had already been picked up by their parents and gone home.

"CLICK, CLACK, CLICK..."

In one of the school’s academic buildings, the crisp, clear sound of high heels echoed down the empty corridor.

A moment later, a beautiful woman emerged from the building. She wore a white blouse and a black pencil skirt, her long, smooth black hair tied up high. She had a delicate, oval-shaped face and slender, arched eyebrows.

"RING, RING, RING..."

Su Yue, a woman of bright eyes and pearly teeth, had just finished organizing her lesson plans and tidying her desk. As she left her office and walked out of the building, ready to head home, a ringing sound came from the purse in her hand.

Her phone was ringing. She wondered who could be calling her at this hour.

The expensive bags her mom, Zheng Qiuyi, had bought her weren’t suitable for school, so she had specifically gone online to buy a more ordinary one.

She opened her purse to get her phone, but the zipper snagged.

She muttered a few words under her breath and tugged at the troublesome zipper, finally getting the purse open.

Taking out her phone, she glanced at the lit-up screen and saw it was her college classmate, Wang Ling.

This good friend of hers—her best friend, really—had opened a flower shop over the summer. Thanks to Su Yue’s help, business had been quite good.

Unfortunately, the shop had to close temporarily due to road construction out front. For the past while, Wang Ling had been stuck at home with nothing to do.

"Hello? Why are you calling me?" Su Yue asked her friend, confused, as she walked toward the covered parking area by the school gate.

"Su Yue, you should be off work by now, right?" Wang Ling asked with a laugh, lying on her living room sofa.

"Yeah, I just finished up in the office. I’m off now and was about to ride my scooter home," Su Yue said.

Her plan was to ride her electric scooter to the wet market near her complex to buy some green onions, ginger, and garlic before heading home.

"Oh, don’t go home! Come out and have some fun," Wang Ling said to her friend, rolling over on the sofa and kicking her long legs in the air.

"Where are we going?" Su Yue asked.

"I recently joined an online group. The members are all small business owners who run flower shops, and most of them are girls."

"Last night, everyone agreed to meet up at a bar tonight to hang out and share some business tips," Wang Ling said.

"The meetup is for flower shop owners to talk about business. What’s a music teacher like me going to do there?" Su Yue said.

"It’s not like only flower shop owners can go. They said we could each bring a friend or two."

"Besides, it’s not like we’ll be talking business the entire time. We can chat about other things, too!" Wang Ling explained.

"You’re not just calling to drag me along because you feel lonely going by yourself, are you?" Su Yue asked, her mind quickly putting the pieces together.

"Hehe, you’re so smart. You guessed it right away... Oh, my dearest Xiaoyue’Er! Please come with me! Pretty please!" Wang Ling begged her friend, deliberately using a cutesy, saccharine tone.

"Alright, alright, just talk normally. I’ll go with you," Su Yue said, exasperated.

"Thanks! Go to that bubble tea shop we always go to. We’ll meet there," Wang Ling said with a laugh.

"Okay," Su Yue replied softly. Then she added, "The place you’re meeting isn’t one of those bars with deafening music, is it?"

"Don’t worry, it’s not... Tonight’s meetup is at a lounge bar!" Wang Ling laughed.

Lounge bars are a type of bar popular among young people who dislike noisy environments. They feature soft music, are relatively quiet, and are suitable for deep conversations, connecting with friends, or just having a drink and a chat.

"Oh, a lounge bar! That’s great." Su Yue nodded in satisfaction. She chatted with Wang Ling for a few more moments before ending the call.

In the time she was on the phone, she had walked from inside the campus to the main school gate.

"Teacher Su, heading out for the day?" the elderly security guard in the booth at the school gate greeted her with a cheerful smile when he saw her.

"Yes, Mr. Wang. You must be getting off soon too, right?" Su Yue replied.

"That’s right! In another half hour, I’ll be heading home myself." Mr. Wang, the security guard, noticed that Su Yue wasn’t walking toward the parking area to get her little white scooter, so he asked with some confusion.

"Teacher Su, how come you’re not riding your scooter home today?"

Su Yue smiled and explained, "I have plans with a friend tonight, so taking the scooter isn’t convenient."

"Oh, I see."

"Well, Mr. Wang, I should get going. I have to hurry and meet my friend."

"Alright, be careful on your way."

"I will."

Su Yue said goodbye to the kindly, near-retirement Mr. Wang and stepped out of the school gates.

The street outside the school was bustling with people. The streetlights on either side wouldn’t turn on for a little while yet.

Some passersby walking past the school gate caught sight of the tall, graceful, and captivating Su Yue. They immediately stopped in their tracks, men and women alike, and stared at her in unison.
