Chapter 659: Chapter 409: Two Gossipy Cats and an Illegal Intrusion

"Wang is asking you a question. Answer him immediately. What are you spacing out for?" Chen Xiaoyan said, nudging Zhu Daqi when she saw him stunned silent.

"Oh, sorry. I’ll tell you now," Zhu Daqi said, snapping out of his stupor. He then rattled off Lin Li’s address in detail.

"Building Three, 601." Wang Hao repeated the address, then turned and walked toward the nearby Ping’an Garden District.

Zhu Daqi watched as Wang Hao grew smaller in the distance, disappearing into the residential complex after a short while. He then turned to the person beside him. "Yan, Wang is just going to barge in like that. What if something goes wrong?"

Don’t be fooled by the fact that Zhu Daqi worked at Liu Menglong’s underground casino and usually put on a tough-guy act. The moment there was a chance of real trouble, he’d immediately chicken out.

At the end of the day, Zhu Daqi was just an ordinary person, nothing more than a punk who preyed on the weak and feared the strong.

Chen Xiaoyan shot Zhu Daqi a sidelong glance, thinking, ’What a useless fellow.’ But what she said was meant to reassure him.

"Don’t worry. With Wang Hao on the case, that young man named Lin Li won’t be able to stir up any trouble. Things won’t get out of hand..."

"..." Zhu Daqi didn’t know that Wang Hao was a Second Order High Rank Cultivator, so Chen Xiaoyan’s reassuring words did little to ease his anxiety.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say more, but then considered that the man was already on his way to confront Lin Li. Anything he said now would be useless, so he swallowed his words.

After all, what’s done is done. All they could do now was wait and see if things would truly turn out as Chen Xiaoyan had said and not escalate.

’Crap. If Yan and the boss’s friend blows this up and attracts the attention of the authorities, I’ll have no choice but to pack my bags and skip town.’

...

WHOOSH...

A sudden gust of wind brought a rolling heat wave, causing the flowers, grass, and trees in the greenbelt to sway. Their branches and leaves brushed against each other, making a rustling sound.

MEOW...

Two small stray cats, one black and one white, were resting in the shade of a large tree. A short while ago, they had gone to the park and caught a few big rats for lunch.

The original ruler of that park had been a Big Striped Cat, but after witnessing the Little Black Cat’s transformation, it had been scared away.

Now, the park and its many large rats had become the two small stray cats’ private, all-you-can-eat buffet.

Their petite bodies lay on the grass, eyes half-closed in a light doze, tails swishing back and forth. From their lazy posture, it was clear the two little guys were completely relaxed.

Just as the two stray cats were about to fall asleep, the Little White Cat’s ears suddenly twitched. It opened its eyes and looked toward a man in a black suit and sunglasses standing outside the greenbelt.

"Meow...?"

The Little White Cat stared intently at the distant human, an almost imperceptible glimmer of faint golden Spiritual Light flashing through its large, round eyes.

"Meow... What’s wrong?" The Little Black Cat heard the movement beside it and opened its eyes. It followed its companion’s gaze into the distance.

"Meow... That human is radiating a dangerous aura," said the Little White Cat.

"Meow... A dangerous aura? How dangerous? More dangerous than Zhou Tongtong’s neighbor?" the Little Black Cat asked curiously.

"Meow... Not quite. Zhou Tongtong’s neighbor is much more dangerous than this human," the Little White Cat said, shaking its head as it recalled the feeling Lin Li gave it.

"Meow... Huh, he’s going into Building 3. By the way, does anyone like that even live in Building 3?" said the Little Black Cat.

"Meow... I don’t think so! And I’ve never seen this person in the district before," the Little White Cat said after a moment of thought.

The two stray cats had been living in the Ping’an Garden District for some time now. By this point, the little creatures had come to regard the entire complex as their personal territory.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they knew everything about the district, or at least, they weren’t far off.

After all, when they weren’t resting under a tree after a good meal, they were patrolling the district, constantly deepening their knowledge of the residents and picking up all sorts of gossip.

For instance, they knew that the single, sixty-something-year-old man in Building 1 had found love again and was preparing to remarry an elderly woman from the neighboring district.

For another example, even though it was the tail end of summer and unbearably hot, for a certain young couple in Building 3, it felt like the dead of winter.

They had moved into the district less than a month ago and had already argued five times, each fight more vicious than the last. They were on the verge of physical violence, and it was likely they would break up before the month was out.

YAWN~

The two stray cats idly exchanged a few more tidbits of gossip, then yawned in unison. They closed their eyes again, ready for an afternoon nap.

...

DING.

The elevator stopped and the doors opened. Wang Hao, still wearing his sunglasses, stepped out. He glanced to his left, then walked to the right.

"601."

Looking up at the apartment number to confirm he was in the right place, Wang Hao reached out and pressed the doorbell on the wall.

DING-DONG...

The doorbell rang for several seconds, but there was no response from inside.

’Is he sleeping?’ Wang Hao wondered when no one answered. He guessed that the target might be asleep in the bedroom and hadn’t heard the bell.

DING-DONG...

He pressed the doorbell again, but there was still no response from inside. Frowning, Wang Hao rang it several more times, but the result was the same.

’The target is a Tier One Peak Cultivator, after all. It’s plausible he might not hear the bell once or twice.’

’But I’ve rung it seven or eight times now. It’s impossible that he hasn’t heard it, unless he’s deliberately pretending not to.’

’There’s also the possibility that the target isn’t home right now.’

As he made these mental analyses, Wang Hao pressed his ear to the door, listening for any movement inside, while also extending his Perception to probe the apartment.

The apartment was dead silent. His Spiritual Perception didn’t detect any Spiritual Energy fluctuations inside either.

"Is the target really not home?" Wang Hao muttered to himself. He then pulled out his phone and called Chen Xiaoyan.

The call connected almost instantly.

"Hello."

"Chen Xiaoyan, ask your man if the target left the complex after returning."

"..."

"Zhu Daqi, did that man, Lin Li, leave the district after he came back?"

"Yan, he left early this morning for a trip to the jewelry store, but he hasn’t left the district since he got back. I can guarantee it."

"I’ve been watching the whole time without letting up. All morning, the only people I’ve seen going in and out are old folks with their grocery carts and bags."

"..."

"Wang Hao, I asked him. He’s sure the target returned to the district and hasn’t left since," Chen Xiaoyan said to Wang Hao.

"Okay, I got it." After receiving a clear answer, Wang Hao hung up.

He stared at the closed door in front of him, not bothering to press the doorbell again.

’Looks like I’ll have to change the plan and try another method.’

Wang Hao took a small, exquisitely crafted black metal key from his pocket. Mobilizing the Spiritual Energy in his Dantian, a faint golden Spiritual Light appeared on the fingers holding the key.

Spiritual Energy flowed from his fingertips. The moment it made contact, the black metal key began to absorb it.

Since it was actively absorbing Spiritual Energy, the black metal key had to be a Spiritual Artifact.

The Spiritual Artifact, now activated by the Spiritual Energy, was thrust by Wang Hao toward the keyhole of the door.

The black metal key was clearly the wrong size for the lock, but the moment it touched the keyhole, its shape began to shift.

It then slid into the keyhole with ease, fitting the lock perfectly, as if this black metal key was the door’s original.

He twisted the key in his hand. With a CLICK, the door unlocked.

After using the Spiritual Artifact to open the door, Wang Hao withdrew it and put it back in his pocket.

THUD.

He stepped inside and closed the door.

The sound of the door closing was quite distinct. A stranger had just entered the home without permission.

If the owner had heard such a noise, they should have come running out immediately to see who had broken into their home.
