Su Yue reached out and took an orange from Lin Li’s hand. After peeling it, she broke off half, popped it into her mouth, and savored it with an expression of pure delight.

"How is it? Is this wild orange sweet?" Lin Li asked.

"It’s so sweet! I can’t believe this wild orange tastes so good. Here, you have to try it." Su Yue finished the piece in her mouth and replied, holding the other half of the orange up to Lin Li’s lips.

Hearing Su Yue’s praise and seeing her offer the orange half to his lips, Lin Li didn’t think twice and opened his mouth to take it.

His teeth came together, breaking the flesh of the orange. Juice instantly flooded his mouth.

In an instant, Lin Li’s face puckered. He quickly spat out the orange.

"Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey..."

"It’s so sour! How is that sweet at all? Is there something wrong with your taste buds?"

Seeing Lin Li’s face completely contorted from the sourness, the charming smile on Su Yue’s lovely cheeks broke into a wide, unrestrained grin. Then came a series of giggles, as clear and pleasant as silver bells.

Lin Li saw Su Yue clutching her stomach, peals of bell-like laughter spilling unstoppably from her rosy lips. He understood at once. ’This has nothing to do with my sense of taste!’ Her whole act just now had been completely fake.

’She must have been hit by the same unbearable sourness when she first tasted her half.’

’She didn’t want to suffer alone, so she put on an Oscar-worthy performance, pretending the orange was delicious just to trick me into trying it too.’

’This woman is just too devious. Her act was so convincing, you couldn’t tell she was faking it at all...’ Lin Li said with a look of exasperation, "You’re so childish!"

Su Yue stifled her laughter and patted Lin Li’s arm. "You’re just too easy to fool, you know?"

Lin Li shot the gloating Su Yue a glare, then turned and started walking away.

"What dish?" Lin Li asked, his curiosity piqued.

Seeing Lin Li take the bait, the corners of Su Yue’s mouth curved into a smile. "Squirrel-shaped Mandarin Fish," she said brightly. "Have you ever had it?"

"Never, but I’ve seen food bloggers make it. The recipe looks pretty complicated." As a complete novice in the kitchen, Lin Li felt that dish was far beyond his current abilities.

"Is it that complicated? I think it’s manageable!" Su Yue said. "When we get back from camping, we’ll go to the market, buy a mandarin fish, and I’ll make it for dinner."

Lin Li nodded, a sense of anticipation building inside him. Then, he raised his right hand, showing Su Yue the few wild oranges he still held. "Since these are so sour, I guess I’ll just throw them away..."

Su Yue shook her head. "It’d be a shame to throw them away. Let’s peel all the ones you picked and try them. Maybe some of them are sweet."

"Fine. But these things are incredibly sour, so I’m not tasting them. If you want to try, you can do it yourself..." Lin Li said, stopping in his tracks. He put all the wild oranges he had picked into a plastic bag and handed it to Su Yue.

"This one’s sweet," Su Yue said after peeling a wild orange and taking a small bite. Her eyes lit up as she turned to Lin Li.

"..." Hearing this, Lin Li looked at her with deep suspicion. After all, he had just been tricked by her a few moments ago.

"I’m not tricking you. Here, try it." Su Yue broke off half of the orange and held it to Lin Li’s lips.

"If you’re tricking me again, I’m leaving you here by yourself," Lin Li threatened, though he still raised a hand to take the orange from her.

"Oh, my. Is the trust between us really so fragile? You’re breaking my heart," Su Yue sighed, putting on a woeful expression so pitiful it could make one’s heart ache.

’If you hadn’t just pulled that stunt on me, would I be this untrusting?’ Lin Li thought, seeing her go into full drama-queen mode again. Then he popped the orange into his mouth.

"So? I wasn’t tricking you, was I?" The sad expression vanished from Su Yue’s face the moment Lin Li ate the orange, replaced by a grin as she asked.

"Mm." A sweet flavor filled his mouth, and Lin Li nodded.

"See? These wild oranges aren’t all sour!" Su Yue said with a radiant smile, then continued pulling oranges from the bag to test them.

This process of having to taste each one to find out if it was sweet or sour felt like opening a blind box, and Su Yue found it incredibly fun.

Lin Li found it quite amusing to watch Su Yue, one moment her brow furrowed from a sour one, the next her face blossoming into a sweet smile.
