Chapter 614: Chapter 387: An Unexpected Encounter
WHOOSH...
A sudden gust of wind swept across the sky, bringing a vast stretch of dark clouds with it.
The bright moon, once surrounded by a retinue of stars, was swallowed by the wind-blown clouds. With the only source of light obscured, the world plunged into a darkness so complete you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.
"This weather is changing way too fast!" Lin Li, who had already returned from the wilderness to the safe zone, grumbled. He stood on the flat asphalt road, looking up at the clouds where silvery-white lightning flashed.
"It’s probably going to pour soon. I’d better hurry back to camp."
SNAP.
The crisp sound of a finger snap echoed in the pitch-black night. A few small sparks flew out and rapidly expanded, transforming into fist-sized fireballs.
Under Lin Li’s control, the fireballs immediately dispersed, hovering around him to drive away the darkness and illuminate the path at his feet.
He then picked up his pace, running quickly toward the campsite.
After jogging for about ten minutes, Lin Li reached the edge of a small stream. From here, all he had to do was follow the bank to get back to the campsite.
"Huh? Is that...?!"
Walking briskly along the uneven dirt path for a few minutes, Lin Li spotted a white glow by the stream in the distance. He could faintly make out a figure sitting on a large rock by the water’s edge.
’It’s so late. Why would someone be out here? Aren’t they afraid of running into danger?’
Lin Li thought for a moment, then extinguished all the small fireballs that were circling him for light.
Then, he retrieved a flashlight from the Mysterious Small Island.
After turning on the flashlight, he walked slowly toward the source of the white light by the stream, intending to see if the person, who hadn’t moved, was in some kind of trouble.
GURGLE... GURGLE... GURGLE...
The clear water of the stream flowed swiftly into the distance. The sound of the current drifted in all directions, seeming particularly loud in the dim environment.
Of course, the chirping of insects would also rustle out from the dense grass by the stream from time to time.
THUD, THUD, THUD...
The figure sitting on the large rock by the stream heard the footsteps approaching from behind and immediately grew alert. They snatched up a flashlight that was beside them and shone it in the direction of the sound.
"Lin Li!!!"
"Su Yue!!!"
Under the night sky, in the cold mountains, the man and woman who had just met by the stream cried out in unison, their voices filled with surprise.
"It’s the middle of the night! What are you doing out here instead of sleeping in your tent? What would you do if you ran into trouble?" Lin Li hadn’t expected the person on the rock to be Su Yue, and he asked, bewildered.
"I came out to find you!" Su Yue said.
"To find me?"
"Yes! It’s so late, and you were gone from the camp for so long. I was worried something might have happened to you, so I came out to look for you."
"..." Lin Li fell silent at her words. He raised a hand and scratched his head, thinking, ’When I left earlier, I really thought she was asleep! So she was awake the whole time!’
"Hmph... And you’re scolding me! What about you? Not sleeping in your tent in the middle of the night, gone for over an hour... What were you doing?" Su Yue huffed.
"Er..." Lin Li explained, "I couldn’t sleep, so I went out for a walk. I ended up wandering farther than I realized, so it took me some time to get back."
"You’ve got some nerve. There are snakes in these mountains. What if you accidentally stepped on one and got bitten? There’s no one around here to hear you yell for help. You’d be done for," Su Yue said with a frown.
"I was being very careful. I wouldn’t step on a snake. And you’re calling me bold? You came out here looking for me all by yourself. You’re just as brave as I am," Lin Li said with a chuckle.
"That’s only because I was worried about you! Otherwise, in this pitch-black darkness, out in the mountains... Normally, I’d never dare come out here alone," Su Yue mumbled.
Hearing this, Lin Li felt a little embarrassed and touched his nose. Then he said to Su Yue, "It’s late. Let’s go back."
"Okay." Su Yue nodded. She stood up and took a few steps forward, but her movements were very uncoordinated.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Li asked, noticing her awkward movements.
"I twisted my ankle a little while ago. It’s nothing serious. Let’s hurry back!" Su Yue said, trying to brush it off.
"..." Lin Li aimed the flashlight at Su Yue’s foot and immediately saw that her right ankle was a little swollen.
Seeing Lin Li shining the flashlight on her sprained right ankle, Su Yue said with a smile, "I told you, I just twisted it a little. It’s not serious. It’ll probably be fine by tomorrow."
"Sit down," Lin Li said suddenly.
"What for?" Su Yue asked.
"To put some Honghua Oil on it!" Lin Li said. He reached his right hand into his pocket, and with a thought, he retrieved a small bottle of Honghua Oil from the Mysterious Small Island.
"Huh?" Su Yue was taken aback. She then saw Lin Li pull his right hand from his pocket and open his palm, revealing a small bottle of Honghua Oil.
"Why would you carry Honghua Oil with you when you go out?"
"When you’re camping and hiking on rugged terrain like this, it’s easy to twist an ankle. So it’s perfectly normal to carry a bottle of Honghua Oil," Lin Li explained with a smile.
