Chapter 605: Chapter 382: Beast or Worse Than a Beast, How to Choose?

Some Mutant Beasts foraging in the night caught sight of the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast’s figure from afar. They shuddered with fear, and once they came to their senses, they turned tail and fled.

The Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast, searching for food, watched the small fry flee without giving chase.

Chasing those small fry would be a waste of energy, and even if it caught them, they wouldn’t be enough for a mouthful. It needed larger prey.

As time passed, the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast drew ever closer to the edge of a human city, and gradually, signs of human civilization came into view.

"ROAR...???"

The foraging Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast stopped in its tracks. It stared at the twinkling lights of the human city in the distance, its eyes filled with confusion.

After hesitating for a few minutes, the Red-horned Purple-scaled Lizard Beast resumed its advance toward the brightly lit human city.

...

It was past eleven at night. One by one, the human campsites along the creek extinguished their lights as men and women crawled into their tents to rest.

"Lin Li, circle around from that side and toss a grenade into the room," Su Yue said to Lin Li, her game character crouching beside a doorway.

"You got it." Receiving his orders, Lin Li immediately moved his character to the designated spot and tossed a grenade through the window into the room.

"Grenade thrown."

Hearing Lin Li’s confirmation, Su Yue immediately charged her character into the room.

"BOOM."

As the grenade Lin Li had thrown into the room detonated, the enemies hiding inside were immediately distracted by the explosion.

At that exact moment, Su Yue burst in and unleashed a hail of gunfire from her weapon at the enemies before they could react.

"BANG, BANG, BANG..."

After the gunshots, the enemies fell. Once the last one was taken down, the word "VICTORY" immediately appeared on the game screen.

"We won! First place," said Lin Li, who’d been carried through the match, turning with a smile to Su Yue as she stretched her fingers.

"As long as you listen to my commands, getting first place is a piece of cake," Su Yue said smugly.

"Can’t you be a little more humble?" Lin Li asked, looking speechlessly at the gloating Su Yue.

"What’s there to be humble about? What? Was I wrong?" Su Yue retorted.

"Uh..." Lin Li was at a loss for words as he looked at Su Yue, who had indeed carried him for several games in a row.

"Hee hee hee..." Seeing Lin Li unable to refute her, Su Yue couldn’t help but laugh, a sound as melodious as silver bells.

After laughing for a moment, she stopped and exited the game. "It’s getting late. Let’s call it a day."

Lin Li checked the time and saw it was almost 11:30. It was indeed getting late. He nodded and exited the game as well.

The two of them got up from their camp stools, went to the creek to wash up, and then returned to the front of the tent.

Su Yue took off her shoes and crawled into the tent first. When she saw Lin Li hadn’t followed but was still standing outside, she urged, "What are you doing? Hurry up and get in."

"Uh..." The thought of being in the same tent as Su Yue made Lin Li’s heart start to pound.

That afternoon, he had heard Su Yue say the tent was big enough for four people, so one would be enough for them.

He hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but now that they were actually about to stay in the same tent, he realized he had been far too naive.

"It’s late. Don’t just stand there like an idiot," Su Yue urged again.

HUUU... Lin Li took a deep breath, slipped off his shoes, and crawled into the tent.

Just as Su Yue had said, the four-person tent was indeed quite spacious. For two people, there was more than enough room.

Having skipped her afternoon nap and been busy for a while after arriving at the campsite, Su Yue had accumulated a lot of fatigue. An unstoppable wave of drowsiness washed over her.

"Haaah~" Su Yue yawned, snuggled into her sleeping bag, and turned to look at Lin Li, who was sitting by the tent’s entrance half a meter away. "Zip up the flap, will you? I’m so sleepy. I’m going to bed."

With that, she closed her eyes.

Watching Su Yue close her eyes to sleep, Lin Li’s pounding heart gradually calmed. He thought to himself,

’You’re a Tier Two Peak Cultivator, for crying out loud! To think your composure is worse than a girl with no cultivation at all. How pathetic...!!!’

After mentally scolding himself, Lin Li pulled the zipper, closing the tent flap.

Next, he turned off the camping light hanging from the top of the tent and crawled into his own sleeping bag.

With the camping light off, the inside of the tent instantly became pitch-black.

It was silent inside the dark tent, and the sound of steady breathing could be heard clearly.

Lin Li’s and Su Yue’s sleeping bags were half a meter apart. At this distance, Lin Li could clearly smell the unique fragrance wafting from her side.

He was very familiar with this unique scent. Normally, he was so used to it that he didn’t feel anything special.

But now, smelling that same unique fragrance in the pitch-black tent, his recently calmed heart couldn’t help but start pounding again.

’Why are you thumping around like that? So pathetic.’ Lin Li chided his pounding heart. He immediately began to silently recite the Purifying Heart Spell, which only he knew in this world.

"Prosperity, Civilization, Freedom, Equality, Justice, Integrity..."

Beside him, Su Yue, who had closed her eyes and was seemingly about to fall asleep, suddenly opened them.

A moment ago, she had been overcome with drowsiness. But when she closed her eyes to sleep and clearly sensed Lin Li crawling into the sleeping bag next to her, her own heart began to race, and all sleepiness vanished.

A jumble of thoughts began to dominate her mind. For some reason, a funny story she had once read online popped into her head. The story was called ’Beast, or Worse than a Beast’.

"THUMP, THUMP, THUMP..."

Inside the pitch-black tent, both of their hearts were beating faster and faster.

And so, even after midnight, neither of them had fallen asleep. In fact, they only became more and more awake.

’This can’t go on. I need to go outside and cool off.’ Having recited the Purifying Heart Spell countless times, Lin Li found that his pounding heart showed no signs of calming down.

He immediately opened his eyes, unzipped his sleeping bag, and sat up.

Su Yue, her mind a mess of thoughts, snapped to her senses when she heard the sound of a sleeping bag being unzipped next to her. She immediately shut her eyes, and her little, pounding heart sped up even more.

’What is Lin Li doing? Does he think I’m already asleep, so he’s going to...’

At this moment, Su Yue’s attention was completely focused, her ears straining to catch every sound beside her.

Inside her sleeping bag, her two fair, delicate hands were balled into tight fists, a clear sign of just how nervous she was.

Don’t be fooled by Su Yue’s usual carefree and unguarded demeanor around Lin Li.

When things actually reached a certain point, she, a complete rookie who, just like Lin Li, had never been in a relationship and had zero experience in certain matters, would be instantly revealed for the novice she was.

Lin Li went to the tent’s entrance, pulled the zipper, opened the flap, and crawled out.

Clenching her fists, her attention fully concentrated, Su Yue heard Lin Li leaving. She abruptly opened her eyes.

Turning her head, she watched his hazy silhouette walk away from the tent. She couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, yet at the same time, she felt a pang of disappointment.

’What was I so nervous about? That blockhead is such a coward. Even if you gave him ten times the guts, he wouldn’t dare to do anything...’
