Chapter 195 195: Crocodile Has Become a Woman
"So what exactly is it?"
Crocodile turned the small pill over in his palm with curiosity. It had come out of one of Amon's Jars, which meant it was worth knowing about.
Amon considered his options for a moment, then decided that basic professional honesty was the minimum he owed a paying customer, even if part of him was deeply tempted by the alternative.
"Ahem. This is a pill that will bring about a rather... fundamental change to your body." He kept it vague to start.
"A fundamental change? As in, stronger? More physically capable?"
"Not exactly. Alright, I'll be straight with you. This is a Gender Reversal Pill. After taking it, your biological sex changes. Male to female, female to male."
He held it out and braced himself.
By any reasonable measure, Crocodile was going to be furious. Someone with that much pride being handed something like this was not going to end quietly.
What actually happened was something Amon had not remotely prepared for.
"You're saying..." Crocodile's voice dropped, and something in it shifted. When he spoke again, it was with a tremor that sounded less like anger and more like barely contained excitement. "If I take this, my body will actually change?"
"...Yes."
Amon was already mentally rehearsing responses to an explosion of rage.
"Without needing Ivankov's Hormone Fruit? This is wonderful! This is absolutely wonderful!"
Crocodile tossed the pill into his mouth and swallowed it before Amon could say another word.
Amon stared.
The mention of Ivankov pulled something out of his memory. There had been a line, back in Impel Down, where Ivankov had let slip that he knew an unspeakable secret about Crocodile, something humiliating enough to hold over him. A significant portion of the fandom had theorised that Crocodile had once gone to Ivankov asking for help with gender transition, and that the scar on his face was the result of something going wrong in the process.
Amon had always thought that was probably just a fan theory.
He was now significantly less certain.
"My body... it's actually changing."
Crocodile looked down at himself with wonder. The formerly flat expanse of his chest had begun to shift in a very visible and unmistakable direction. His waist was drawing inward. The transformation was gradual but entirely real, moving at a pace the eye could follow.
"GWAHAHAHAHA! Ivankov, would you look at that! I didn't need you after all!"
The laugh that followed was already different. The deep, gravelled boom of it was softening, rising in pitch with each passing second, until it had become something that could only be described as genuinely melodic.
"My voice! Even my voice changed!" Another delighted shout, lighter now, almost sweet. "This is perfect! This is absolutely perfect!"
Crocodile began to bounce on the balls of his feet with an energy that sat in complete opposition to everything anyone in that circle had ever associated with the man.
Robin, Fujitora, and the scattered Baroque Works agents watched in collective stunned silence. Because it wasn't just the obvious physical changes. Crocodile's face was shifting too. The harsh angular lines of it were softening. His hair, which had been slicked back in its usual severe style, was growing at a visible rate, spilling down past the shoulders, past the back, until it reached the waist. The broad, imposing frame narrowed into something slight and feminine, and within a few minutes, the most feared presence in Alabasta had become a dark-haired girl with wide, blinking eyes and an expression of pure, unguarded delight.
The Baroque Works agents found their voices first.
"Boss Crocodile turned into a girl?!"
"What is happening? Someone explain what is happening!"
"Mr. 0 is... is a girl now?!"
Nobody seemed capable of completing a full sentence.
Robin stood very still, looking at the person in front of her, who was now fidgeting and glancing down at herself with something that could only be described as giddy satisfaction. The Gender Reversal Pill, it turned out, did not stop at the physical. Whatever it had done to Crocodile's temperament had been just as thorough. The imperious, iron-fisted Warlord who ruled by fear and contempt had been replaced, top to bottom, by someone who was now covering their own face with both hands and squeaking with shy embarrassment at being stared at.
"Goodness, stop looking at me like that! It's embarrassing!"
Fujitora was making a visible effort to determine whether his Observation Haki was malfunctioning.
"She's... she's so cute," Robin said, and then immediately looked as though she regretted saying it out loud.
Lily craned her neck with profound curiosity, apparently also working through the same set of questions.
Robin turned to Amon with an expression that was equal parts bewilderment and resignation.
"What happened to Mr. 0?"
"Ha, well. You saw it yourself. Crocodile took the Gender Reversal Pill, so this is the result." Amon scratched the back of his head. "And honestly, from the look of it, he seems pretty happy about it."
That part had surprised him. He had sold the pill, disclosed its effects, and fully expected indignant fury. What he had not expected was for Crocodile to swallow it on the spot with the enthusiasm of someone who had been waiting a long time for exactly this. The implication of the whole thing was settling over him in layers.
The proudest, most untouchable man in the kingdom. Secretly holding that inside for who knew how many years.
No wonder he was always so prickly.
"Gender Reversal Pill," Fujitora repeated, picking through the new information carefully. "That's what Crocodile just swallowed?"
Amon nodded. "That's right. It changes the user's sex, and from what we're looking at, it seems the personality follows along too. By the look of things, the effects are quite complete."
They all looked at the person who had, ten minutes ago, been Crocodile.
She was still standing there, peeking between her fingers at her own reflection in the window of a nearby building, oscillating between delight and flustered embarrassment in a cycle that showed no sign of slowing down.
