Chapter 404 -189: The Reaping Wins Hearts

A crisp, clear autumn day dawned.

As the first rays of morning sun touched the land, the already withered and yellow grasslands began to bustle with activity.

The various guests who had arrived early over the past few days also gathered together this morning.

At the north gate of the Tamin Chagan Base—the side facing the soybean fields—a small stage had been set up in advance, surrounded by various banners, colorful flags, and balloons.

Over three hundred guests had already filed into the venue.

Jiang Miao was meeting with Academician Li, whom he had briefly passed by earlier, as well as Researcher Zhang Zhiyong from the Zhelimu City Academy of Agricultural Sciences and others.

Academician Li began introducing the experts and scholars attending the opening harvest ceremony to Jiang Miao. “General Manager Jiang, let me introduce you. This is Academician Gai from Nannong… this is Battle Institute from the Western Agricultural Research Institute… this is Dr. Sun…”

“A pleasure to meet you!”

“General Manager Jiang, a pleasure!”

“Academician Gai, a pleasure to meet you!”

They exchanged pleasantries for a while.

The experts and scholars who came for the opening harvest ceremony were essentially the nation’s top academics in the soybean field. In total, more than forty had come.

Among them were five academicians alone.

Among them, Academician Li, Zhang Zhiyong, and others had been in Home County for the past few months, researching the Immortal Soybeans.

In addition, Academician Jianglianzhou from Northeast Agricultural University had also been in Home County researching Immortal Soybeans since September. However, his research focus wasn’t on breeding, but on soybean utilization.

As such, he had a solid understanding of the protein and oil content of the Immortal Soybeans.

Academician Jiang held up a test report. “General Manager Jiang, I’ve spent the last few days testing some of the mature Immortal Beans. The three varieties you’ve cultivated have excellent application characteristics.”

“Old Jiang, don’t keep it to yourself! Let me have a look,” Academician Li said with a laugh, holding out his hand.

“What’s the hurry? Here.” Academician Jiang shook his head and handed the document to Academician Li. He then turned to Jiang Miao and several other scholars. “Immortal Bean No. 1 has an average oil content of 26.7% and an average soybean protein content of 45.2%. This variety is quite balanced.”

“Twenty-six? Forty-five? Those levels are already very high.”

“Exactly. The genetically modified American Soybeans only have a protein content of around 34% and an oil content of 18%.”

The other scholars in the field of soybean breeding looked on with envy and amazement.

But Academician Jiang shook his head. “You wouldn’t be saying that if you knew about the other two varieties.”

Academician Li, who was looking at the report, couldn’t help but widen his eyes. “Immortal Bean No. 2 has an average oil content of 29.3%? And an average protein content of 40.1%? Moreover, its monounsaturated fatty acid content reaches 44.2%.”

Jiang Miao smiled and nodded. “The No. 2 variety is a high-oil type, ideal for producing high-quality soybean oil.”

“That’s incredible!”

“This variety can produce almost twice as much oil as other domestic soybean varieties, and its oil yield is about 35% higher than genetically modified American Soybeans.”

“And its soybean protein content isn’t low either.”

“Oil extraction companies are going to love this variety.”

As experts in the soybean field, everyone present understood the immense benefits a high-fat, high-protein variety would bring to oil extraction companies.

Take one ton of soybeans, for example.

One ton of American or Brazilian soybeans can only yield 180 kilograms of soybean oil, and the resulting soybean meal has a protein content of about 41%.

One ton of Immortal Beans, however, can yield 290 kilograms of high-quality soybean oil, and its meal has a protein content of around 56%.

For an oil extraction company, getting an extra 110 kilograms of soybean oil from the same ton of soybeans, plus a large quantity of high-protein meal, makes Immortal Beans the obvious first choice.

Academician Li looked at the test report for Immortal Bean No. 3. “The average oil content for Immortal Bean No. 3 is relatively low, only about 15.2%, but its average soybean protein content is 52.7%. This variety is well-suited for animal feed.”

“General Manager Jiang, our university would like to use the Immortal Soybeans for crossbreeding. I was wondering if we could perhaps collaborate…”

“General Manager Jiang…”

Jiang Miao was surrounded by the crowd of scholars, and he could only respond to them one by one.

Before he knew it, the sun had climbed high into the sky.

Li Zixuan squeezed through the crowd. “Boss, it’s time for the opening harvest ceremony.”

Jiang Miao smiled at the group. “Everyone, please excuse me. I have to go host the ceremony now. We can continue our discussion over lunch.”

“You’re too kind, General Manager Jiang.”

“Go on, General Manager Jiang. Don’t let us keep you.”

Watching Jiang Miao’s departing figure, Academician Li sighed softly. “Truly, ‘new talents emerge in every generation, each leading the way for centuries.'” ℯ

The even older Academician Gai, leaning on his cane, looked out at the soybean field beside the venue. “We’re getting old. There’s just no denying it!”

As far as the eye could see, a vast, boundless field of soybeans stretched out like a golden ocean across the land.

The mature pods swayed gently in the breeze, rustling softly as if whispering of the joy of a bountiful harvest.

Sunlight spilled onto the soybean field, making every full bean glisten with a dazzling light, like golden gems embedded in the earth.

The withered yellow leaves still clung on tenaciously, guarding the clusters of heavy beans.

Academician Gai and a few of his students strolled along the edge of the field. The air was filled with the faint, dry fragrance of soybean leaves—the purest aroma bestowed by nature, yet also a testament to the miracles forged by human cultivation.

Leaning down for a closer look, one could see that every pod was plump and swollen, looking as if it might burst open at any moment and spill out its round beans.

The tractor path at the edge of the field was also submerged in this golden ocean, leaving only a faint, indistinct trail.

In the distance, a dozen or so combine harvesters stood ready, waiting for Jiang Miao’s command to begin the harvest.
