Chapter 396 -186: Advancing Side by Side, Part 3
Each of these indoor breeding pools had its own insulation layer. Large shoals of salmon fry were already swimming about in specially prepared seawater, cooled by refrigeration units.
The breeding base covered an area of 500 mu, with an average water velocity of 10 meters per second.
The top-level cultivation area where Jiang Miao stood spanned 125 mu and was currently being used to raise the first batch of fish fry.
Salmon require different amounts of space at various stages of growth, so the farm couldn’t be divided up too simplistically.
For example, during the fry stage, a single cubic meter of water could support over a hundred fish.
But as the salmon grew larger, the volume of water had to be increased accordingly.
Based on the salmon’s different growth stages, the plan allocated 30 mu for fry, 60 mu for smolts, 120 mu for medium-sized fish, and 240 mu for adults, plus an additional 50 mu of holding pools for market-ready fish.
The initial 30-mu area was stocked with a total of two million salmon: 400,000 each of chum, pink, coho, sockeye, and King Salmon.
These different types of salmon had varying growth and cultivation cycles.
With the adjusted feed formula, the pink salmon would reach maturity in about eight months, the chum in ten, the coho and sockeye in twelve, and the King Salmon in fifteen.
In addition to the Chicken Cage Mountain breeding base, the 5,000-mu facility at the Zhe Lang Peninsula would also be gradually brought online between October and December.
At that point, they would be able to raise 22 million salmon fry, with stocking numbers adjusted over time according to the cultivation cycles of the five different species.
At maximum capacity, the farms would simultaneously raise 88 million salmon. After eight months, they would be able to sell approximately seven million salmon per month.
In truth, this stocking density was relatively low.
For comparison, Norwegian salmon farms primarily use gravity-based net pens in shallow seas. Their stocking density is typically around 2% to 2.5% of the pen’s volume, which translates to about 15 to 20 kilograms of salmon per cubic meter of water.
Hailufeng Company’s density, however, was one adult fish per 0.8 cubic meters of water.
Adult chum, coho, and sockeye salmon all weighed between two and three kilograms, while pink salmon only reached about 1.5 kilograms. The maximum weight for a King Salmon after its fifteen-month growth cycle was only seven to eight kilograms.
The main reason for adopting such a low stocking density was to accelerate growth, prevent disease, and reduce the need for medication.
After all, in high-density farming environments, the probability of salmon contracting diseases increases significantly.
This was why salmon farming companies in places like Norway had no choice but to use medication to reduce mortality rates. Even so, their losses during the cultivation process remained very high.
Jiang Miao then watched the terraced farm’s pumped-storage hydroelectricity system for a while longer.
This pumped-storage system had a usable water volume of 600,000 to 1,000,000 cubic meters. At maximum capacity, it could generate 20,000 kilowatts, with a normal operating output of 10,000 kilowatts. It was designed to generate power for twelve hours and pump water for twelve hours.
The system’s power was primarily for the use of the Hailufeng Company Headquarters and the employee residential complex.
After completing his inspection and finding no major issues, Jiang Miao gave the farm’s director a few pointers on the cultivation process before returning to the research center in Nanhu Village.
With the company headquarters having moved to Xinxiang Village, things had quieted down in Nanhu Village. However, many researchers from the R&D division still worked there, with their dormitories set up in the former temporary office building.
Jiang Miao had no intention of moving the research base, either.
The headquarters was primarily for company management. It lacked the necessary research equipment, experimental fields, and greenhouses. Plus, the constant flow of people was not conducive to maintaining confidentiality.
That was why the research base remained in Nanhu Village. After all, the area only had two points of entry and exit. Between the hundred-odd local village households and Hailufeng Company’s own employees, it was impossible for any outsider to slip in unnoticed.
Jiang Miao and his family still lived in their small villa in Nanhu Village and hadn’t moved into the rooftop villa atop the headquarters building.
「Before he knew it, October 1st had arrived.」
Just as Jiang Miao stepped out of the lab for a breath of fresh air, he saw Li Zixuan hurrying toward him. “Boss, the Monan Branch sent an email. They say the Immortal Soybeans will be ready for harvest in half a month. A lot of domestic soybean breeding researchers and agricultural scholars will be arriving on October 15th, and they’d like to invite you to be there.”
“October 15th?” Jiang Miao frowned. ‘I’d like to go, but Shuya’s due date is October 10th. I was planning to stay home with her for a week, so there’s no way I can make it to Monan by then.’
Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.
“Hello? Mom, what is it?”
“Ah Miao, Shuya’s water broke! Get over here, quick!”
“I’m on my way!”
He sprinted the few hundred meters to the entrance of their small villa.
He saw Li Wenna on the phone.
As he entered the living room, Jiang Miao heard a baby’s loud, clear cry. His expression flickered, and without even bothering to use his appraisal panel, he rushed toward the temporary bedroom on the first floor.
At the door, Shuya’s bodyguard, An Ning, saw him arrive and quickly said, “Boss, she’s already given birth! The medical staff are tending to her now. It’s a precious little girl.”
“How’s Shuya?”
“The nurses said she’s fine. You’ll be able to go in and see her in a little while,” An Ning replied quickly.
Jiang Miao let out a sigh of relief. Only then did he remember his appraisal panel and immediately activate his dimensional vision.
Two highly experienced nurses were handling the aftercare. Since it had been a natural birth, the procedure was relatively straightforward for them.
He had specifically poached these two veteran nurses from a hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department to be on standby for Shuya’s delivery, just in case.
It seemed his preparations had paid off.
A moment later, his mother came out of the delivery room pushing a specially prepared infant care bassinet, designed to provide warmth and a sterile environment.
“Ah Miao, mother and daughter are safe and sound,” his mother said, her face wreathed in smiles.
Jiang Miao glanced at his daughter’s tiny, wrinkled face, then asked with concern, “How is Shuya doing?”
His mother didn’t even look at him. Instead, she gazed gleefully at her granddaughter through the transparent barrier. “Nurse Zhang and Nurse Bai are cleaning up now. Shuya was exhausted and just fell asleep. You should go in to see her in a little while!”
“Alright.”
Li Zixuan came up from behind and handed two large red envelopes to his boss. “Boss, the red envelopes!”
“Oh? I almost forgot.” Jiang Miao took the red envelopes.
「Twenty minutes later.」
The door to the delivery room opened a crack, and the two veteran nurses stepped out.
One of the nurses, a more heavyset woman, took off her mask and said with a smile, “General Manager Jiang, your wife is resting. It would be best to see her this afternoon. Ah Fang and I will take turns watching over the mother and daughter, so please rest assured!”
“Thank you both. This is just a small token of my appreciation.” Jiang Miao handed a red envelope to each of them.
“Thank you, General Manager Jiang.”
