But she hadn’t been arrested. They claimed the entire police department was just pretending to work on the case and had actually gone on vacation long ago.

"Investigating? How are you investigating? Who’s investigating? You’re on vacation taking a stroll. You tell me, who’s investigating? And how?"

Hearing his words, Su Miaoyi froze for a moment, then it dawned on her.

Liu Beiqing stared at her for a moment, then scoffed. "Nice words. But they’re just excuses for you to protect Xu Jinlan."

"Where did you hear that I have a connection to Xu Jinlan?" Su Miaoyi’s patience wore thin. "What is our relationship? Be specific."

Liu Beiqing didn’t answer.

"So you really do just make up rumors out of thin air." Su Miaoyi snorted. "What are you trying to do with all these people? Kidnap me in broad daylight? Or start a street fight?"

Liu Beiqing looked at her. "He was my only brother. No matter the cost, I will get justice for him."

"And your so-called justice is to randomly grab someone before the truth is even clear?" Su Miaoyi said.

In his current state, Liu Beiqing was no longer listening to Su Miaoyi. "It’s just the Ji Family. Do you really think Ji Sheng is still in power? I’d like to see how long the people behind the Ji Family can protect you once this blows up."
