I Secretly Cultivate Immortality in the Martial Arts World
Chapter 130 ·Myriad Worlds Arc · Attack on Titan · Two
Seeing that Dragon Lord did not answer, Eren’s eyes rolled as he said:
“Old grandfather, you’re hungry, right? How about you come home with me first? I’ll have my mom cook for you!”
Mikasa’s expression changed. “Eren!”
She wanted to say something, but Dragon Lord spoke first.
“Alright.” Dragon Lord nodded with a cheerful smile.
Mikasa opened her mouth, but in the end, she closed it.
Her grip on the woodcutting knife tightened even more.
......
The three walked across the fields and arrived at Wall Maria.
The outer wall of Shiganshina District.
A fifty-meter-high wall, built from the Titans’ hardening ability.
Dragon Lord raised his head to glance at the wall, his expression calm.
At this moment, he had cast a small spell, making himself invisible to mortals.
It was not to hide anything, just to avoid unnecessary commotion.
After all, if an old man with dragon horns and a tail swaggered into the city, he would probably be treated as a spy sent by the Titans and arrested.
Eren and Mikasa walked ahead, occasionally turning back to look at him.
Soon, the three arrived at the entrance of the wall.
There stood several soldiers wearing green cloaks—the Garrison Regiment.
Leading them was a middle-aged man with messy stubble, holding a wine flask, exuding a lazy air.
It was Hannes.
Eren and Mikasa knew him—a Garrison soldier who loved drinking and often joked with them.
“Yo, Eren, Mikasa, back from gathering firewood?”
Hannes spotted them from afar, grinned, and staggered over.
A smell of alcohol rushed toward them.
Eren wrinkled his nose.
Hannes looked at the firewood behind them, then glanced around in confusion.
“Huh? Why do you two keep looking behind you today? Is there something back there?”
Mikasa froze.
She turned her head.
That strange old man was standing not far away.
But Hannes’ gaze seemed unable to see him?
Eren also reacted and cautiously said, “Uncle Hannes, can’t you see that… that old grandfather beside me?”
Hannes was taken aback. He looked around, then waved his hand beside Eren.
“What old grandfather?” He burst into laughter. “Eren, did you get dizzy from chopping wood?”
Mikasa pressed her lips together.
She did not speak again, but her vigilance toward that strange old man deepened.
Hannes took another swig of wine and laughed. “Alright, alright, stop spacing out and hurry home to eat.”
“Oh right, Eren, is your dad home today? Go have him check your eyes later. Don’t let it turn into a real problem.”
Eren grew anxious. “I really saw him! An old grandfather with horns—and a tail!”
Hannes laughed even louder. “Horns? A tail? Eren, did you secretly drink my wine?”
The other Garrison soldiers nearby also laughed.
“Kids shouldn’t drink alcohol.”
“You only see horned old men when you’re drunk!”
Eren’s face flushed red. “I didn’t drink!”
Hannes patted his head with a grin. “Alright, alright, you didn’t.”
“But since you’re so energetic, how about a sip?”
He handed over the wine flask, winking. “A man has to learn to drink sooner or later.”
Eren glanced at the flask but did not take it.
Thinking of what had just happened, and looking at the wine in Hannes’ hand, he felt that these adults must be drunk, which was why they couldn’t see that old grandfather.
Thinking this way, it actually made sense.
“I won’t drink.”
“And Uncle Hannes, aren’t you on duty? Why are you drinking?”
Hannes waved his hand dismissively. “Ah, what’s the big deal?”
“We stand guard here all day. Before long we’re hungry, then thirsty.”
“Mixing a bit of alcohol into drinks once in a while isn’t a problem.”
Eren frowned. “But what if there’s an emergency? Can you still fight after drinking? What would you do if… if you had to fight?”
Hannes paused. “Emergency? What emergency?”
Eren became agitated. “Isn’t it obvious? When those Titans destroy the wall and rush into the city!”
His voice was loud, startling several Garrison soldiers who were drinking and chatting nearby.
The three were startled, nearly spilling their drinks.
“Eren, don’t shout like that!”
One soldier patted his chest and stood up. “The doctor’s son is really energetic.”
He walked over to Hannes and smiled at Eren. “If those things really break the wall, we’ll definitely fight properly.”
“But.” He pointed at the towering wall behind him and said lightly, “That kind of thing hasn’t happened once in a hundred years.”
Eren refused to accept it. “But times of peace are the most dangerous! My father said so!”
Hannes stroked his chin. “Doctor Yeager said that? Hmm, makes sense.”
“He did save this street from an epidemic before. You can’t just ignore what he says.”
“But still, that’s a different matter.”
“After I joined the army, when I reinforced the walls, I could see those things wandering outside.”
“But I don’t believe they can do anything to this fifty-meter-high wall.”
Eren grew even angrier.
Clenching his fists, he shouted, “So that means you don’t have the resolve to fight them at all, right?”
Hannes scratched his head and nodded honestly. “Yeah, not really.”
Eren’s face turned red with anger. “Then you shouldn’t even be called the Garrison Regiment—just call yourselves the Wall Repair Team!”
Hannes did not get angry. Instead, he laughed.
“Wall Repair Team? That sounds pretty good.”
Eren stared wide-eyed, momentarily at a loss for words.
Seeing his expression, Hannes put away his smile and spoke more seriously, “Eren.”
“The moment soldiers are truly needed is the worst moment.”
“When people like us soldiers are seen as useless and looked down upon, that’s when everyone can live peaceful lives.”
Dragon Lord stood not far away, taking it all in.
Hannes’ words sounded like an excuse for laziness, but upon deeper thought, they did carry some truth.
When soldiers were needed, it meant disaster had already occurred.
That was indeed true.
However…
Dragon Lord raised his head to look at the towering wall.
If he remembered correctly, according to the original plot, that worst moment…
Should be about to begin.
