I Return From Hell
Chapter 61 - 58: Where is the Account Book?
Chapter 61: Chapter 58: Where is the Account Book?
The mist continued to spread, quickly enveloping nearly half of the Treasure House’s second floor.
Many things were swallowed up.
"It’s time to go."
With no time for everyone to compose themselves, Xia Yu took a deep breath, looked toward the staircase leading to the third floor, and said, "The third floor... there’s a chance to survive there."
"Really?"
Zhao Xianghe’s face lit up, his eyes shining with hope.
The others were the same.
After experiencing so many bizarre events in a row, who wouldn’t want to leave this godforsaken place as soon as possible?
"Let’s go."
Xie Shaokun took the lead.
"Ahem."
Xia Yu, not expecting him to be so impulsive, let out a dry cough.
Xie Shaokun paused for a moment but still resolutely kept his position at the very front.
Seeing this, Xia Yu said no more. ’Many people want to be the savior,’ she thought, ’but few have what it takes.’
In fact, she rather hoped Xie Shaokun could become the ’savior’.
’The three bizarre events in a row have left me exhausted. I’ve been the one analyzing everything this whole time, and it’s just too much. Besides, if a Spirit Servant is powerful enough, its master can only be overjoyed.’
Dingding Girl and the Disordered Man exchanged a glance, both pausing for a moment instead of following right away.
STEP.
The bald man, carrying his son on his back, followed Xie Shaokun without hesitation.
His stamina was limited, so he’d had to abandon his sister’s body for now.
Little Nannan followed close behind.
Then, Zhao Xianghe, Dingding Girl, and the Disordered Man followed behind Little Nannan.
The three of them didn’t want to be too far in the back.
Who knew if a bizarre event would erupt from behind them?
Staying in the middle was the safest.
But the staircase was rather narrow, only wide enough for two people. Zhao Xianghe and the Disordered Man walked side-by-side, blocking Dingding Girl behind them.
Xia Yu took in everyone’s actions. Combined with their behavior during the previous three bizarre events, she was beginning to get a basic read on them.
"We’ve got a situation."
To everyone’s surprise, just as they set foot on the stairs, they saw a portly figure. He was standing on the very top step with his hands clasped behind his back, holding a small book.
Strangely, although the man must have heard them, he kept his back to them, showing no intention of turning around.
"Isn’t that..."
Dingding Girl’s pupils constricted, and she quickly averted her gaze in fear.
"Something’s not right. Everyone, be careful."
Xie Shaokun’s entire body tensed. He gripped the pig-killing knife in his hand, ready for a fight.
The two sides faced off for several seconds.
Fine beads of sweat dotted Xie Shaokun’s forehead. Facing danger head-on and alone, he felt a level of tension far greater than he had ever imagined.
"Hm?"
"Why does he look so familiar?"
He knew he was no match for Yu, so, in the spirit of ’two heads are better than one’, he decided to ask for help. "Doesn’t this guy look a little familiar to you all?" he asked.
At his reminder, several people nodded.
"I remember now."
The Disordered Man was the first to speak. "He’s the owner of the Treasure House! I’ve seen him before."
’It’s him?’
’He’s not dead?’
Everyone frowned, realizing something was wrong.
Xia Yu’s brow furrowed in confusion.
’I’ve already searched the third floor,’ she thought. ’I can say with certainty that there are no more Mutants up there. But I can’t rule out a secret room or something of that sort.’
After all, this was an antique shop!
And the only people who would know about such a place would certainly be a select few, like the owner.
Of course.
Whether the figure before them was even human remained to be seen.
"Everyone, have any of you seen my ledger?"
"My ledger is missing."
The Treasure House owner spoke. His voice was normal, as calm and gentle as ever.
But everyone knew he was far from normal, and no one dared to let their guard down.
Just as everyone was pondering whether to respond, and how...
"Isn’t that your ledger in your hands behind you?"
The bald man blurted out instinctively.
Everyone expected the Treasure House owner to remain with his back to them—it would have fit the eerie atmosphere. But he simply turned around, revealing a plump, pockmarked face.
"Is that so?"
The Treasure House owner returned the question, a look of confusion on his face. "Where is it?"
Everyone: "..."
"What’s wrong with you?"
The bald man couldn’t resist retorting, "This is like riding a donkey to go looking for it. The ledger is right there in your hand. You get what I’m saying now, right?"
"I get it."
The Treasure House owner nodded, a smile spreading across his face.
But this smile had none of its former warmth; instead, it looked utterly bizarre.
The bald man’s eyelid twitched. "Move," he shouted. "Let us go upstairs."
"Go upstairs?"
