Chapter 110: Chapter 103: Detective Xia

"Ah!"

The bloodcurdling scream was cut short the moment it began.

A phone clattered to the floor.

The light from its screen flickered wildly.

Nai’er glanced back just in time to see the driver’s head lolling to the side, more than half of his neck gone.

Blood sprayed everywhere.

It was a horrific sight.

WHOOSH.

Fear once again unlocked her potential.

An endless well of strength surged through her body, and her speed increased again. She gradually began to catch up to her assistant.

’I have to catch her!’

’As long as I can get ahead of her, I won’t be the next one to die.’

Nai’er was panicked and terrified, but her mind was crystal clear. She knew exactly what she had to do.

"Ah!"

As the assistant ran down the stairs, she missed a step. She screamed as she tumbled down, instinctively shielding her head. If she hadn’t, she would have been disfigured or knocked unconscious on the spot.

’A godsend!’

Nai’er was overjoyed, especially when she saw a large bundle of key cards slip from her assistant’s grasp. A smile bloomed on her face. "You found the key cards! That’s great!"

She bounded forward, trying to snatch the cards.

But it was no use.

The assistant knew how important the key cards were and clutched them to her chest, guarding them with her life.

"You... let go!"

"Take... take me with you, please."

"Let go first!"

The two women struggled.

Then, a pair of blood-red eyes appeared at the top of the stairwell.

Nai’er no longer had time to fight her assistant for the key cards. She turned and fled.

But the assistant was ruthless. She tucked into a roll, hurtling down the stairs even faster and knocking Nai’er over in the process.

BANG.

Nai’er landed face-first. Her teeth shattered, and she was left in a wretched state.

Her head was ringing.

Her vision swam.

"Serves you right." The assistant struggled to her feet, stepped over Nai’er’s body, and fled without a moment’s hesitation.

The red-eyed monster was right behind her.

’Whoever gets left behind dies!’

In this life-or-death moment, things like "benefits" and "feelings" meant nothing. She just wanted to live!

Nai’er’s willpower was surprisingly resilient. She forced herself to stay conscious, but when she rolled over, she saw the monster looming over her!

Its scarlet eyes glinted with an eerie, bloodthirsty light.

"No, don’t kill me, no..."

Fear exploded in her heart. Nai’er opened her mouth to beg for mercy but found it full of blood, her words garbled and unintelligible.

Of course, even if she could have spoken clearly, it wouldn’t have saved her.

GRRR.

The Red Eyes monster opened its mouth, revealing sharp teeth as long as a pinky finger. Saliva flowed from between its fangs, dripping into Nai’er’s mouth.

The stench was foul.

Nauseating.

Just as she tried to move, the monster lunged, its jaws snapping shut.

’Am I going to die?’

Nai’er had never imagined it would end like this. She had only come to the hotel to demand answers, and now she was going to die here.

She still had the best years of her life ahead of her.

’I don’t want to die here!’

No!

She closed her eyes in agony and despair, waiting for death’s embrace. In that final moment, a bizarre thought surfaced in her mind: ’If it kills me in one bite, I probably won’t feel any pain, right?’

THWACK.

THUD.

Nai’er heard a strange noise, and before she could even process what was happening, she felt something heavy collapse on top of her.

’It’s heavier than my husband!’

’And so bony!’

Even through her down jacket, its hard form was digging into her.

’I’m not dead?’

She tentatively opened her eyes and saw several figures.

’Monsters?’

’Humans?’

"Good thing we made it in time."

Xia Yu expertly sliced open the Mutated Beast’s head.

This one had been powerful, on the verge of its eyes turning completely red. She had only managed to kill it in one strike because she’d caught it by surprise.

If she’d fought it head-on, it would have taken a considerable effort to kill it.

If its eyes had been completely red, killing it would have either required a heavy price or a gun.

Not wanting to waste time, Xia Yu grabbed Nai’er’s arm, yanked her out from under the Mutated Beast, and asked bluntly, "Start talking."

"How did your husband *really* die?"

Zhang Feng, Song Ni, Nai’er, and her assistant were all stunned.

’She’s asking about that?’

The four of them remained surprisingly silent.

"Not talking?"

A glint flashed in Xia Yu’s eyes. "It seems there’s more to this case than meets the eye."

Their expressions were varied, but they remained silent.

"Your husband is alive again," Xia Yu looked at Nai’er and said bluntly.

"What?"

Nai’er was startled at first, then a look of joy spread across her face. "Really? He’s still alive?"

The others were equally shocked. Song Ni shook her head and said, "How is that possible? How can the dead come back to life?"

"These monsters exist," Xia Yu retorted coolly. "Is anything really impossible anymore?"

Song Ni fell silent.

"Where is he? I have to go find him!" Nai’er asked, fighting through the pain.

"Even if he’s alive, he’s a monster!" Zhang Feng reminded her, "Are you sure you want to go looking for him?"

"I..."

Nai’er froze.

"Miss, you’re so powerful, you could kill him, right? We’ll pay you. How does a million sound?" Zhang Feng ignored Nai’er and turned to Xia Yu, his face a mask of desperation. "Please, save us! Kill that monster!"

"So no one’s talking, is that it?"

Xia Yu drew her Blood Butterfly. Her gaze swept over the group as she said coldly, "Then don’t blame me when I start killing people."

Time was running out.

She couldn’t afford any delays!

Everyone’s faces paled, and they took a unanimous step back.

"You. Talk."

Xia Yu’s attention landed on Song Ni first.

The woman’s nerves were the most frayed; she would be the easiest one to break.

"Don’t kill me, please."

Staring at the Blood Butterfly flashing before her, its dark red blade radiating a cold light and the scent of blood, Song Ni panicked. She threw her hands up and shook her head frantically. "It wasn’t me! I don’t know anything! Ask someone else!"

SHLICK.

Xia Yu lunged forward.

The tip of her knife pierced flesh.

It plunged into Song Ni’s shoulder.

"Mmph—"

She was about to scream, but Xia Yu clamped a hand tightly over her mouth. "Talk."

Song Ni was terrified.

Watching Xia Yu withdraw the Blood Butterfly and aim it at her neck, she trembled violently, about to speak.

Zhang Feng, standing to the side, couldn’t watch any longer. "Miss, isn’t this going too far? We don’t know anything! This is just torture!"

"Oh?"

Xia Yu looked at Zhang Feng and retorted coldly, "Then how about you talk?"

Erk.

Zhang Feng felt the chill in Xia Yu’s voice and gulped, pressing his lips together.

Xia Yu turned her gaze back to Song Ni.

’This woman definitely knows something!’

"Ah!"

"Help!"

"Monster! It’s a monster!"

Screams erupted from downstairs.

Two figures came scrambling up the stairs.

It was Xia Hongchun and Wang Dan.

And right behind them was a Mutated Beast with completely red eyes!

At the sight, Xia Yu’s expression changed.
