I Return From Hell
Chapter 106 - 99: Hell on Earth
Chapter 106: Chapter 99: Hell on Earth
Nai’er, her two assistants, and the driver—the four of them were relatively lucky. They all became Spiritual Transformers.
"Sister Nai’er, what do we do?! Why did these people... why did they suddenly turn into monsters? *Sob sob*."
"All the popularity we worked so hard to build is gone, just like that. This is devastating! We didn’t even get to sell out the new products we just launched. Ugh! We’re out millions!"
...
The two assistants burst into tears on the spot.
But they were crying for different reasons.
Nai’er, however, was completely stunned with fear, frozen to the spot.
The driver next to her was made of tougher stuff. He was the first to snap out of his fear and think about escaping. But just as he lifted his foot to run, Nai’er grabbed his leg. "Save me, I’m begging you."
Remembering how well Nai’er usually treated him, he couldn’t bring himself to abandon her and leave alone.
He picked up Nai’er and charged toward the hotel!
"Run!"
"If you stay, you’ll die."
He roared without looking back, hoping that more people might survive.
"SPURT."
A living person nearby had their throat bitten through, and a massive amount of blood sprayed out, splattering right onto Nai’er’s face.
"Ah."
The acrid smell of blood made Nai’er scream. She clung desperately to the driver, too terrified to think about anything else.
’All she wanted was to be near the strong!’
Her two assistants followed closely behind.
The crowd was in chaos.
The driver was tall and burly, easily shouldering his way through the crowd. Since they were close to the hotel entrance, they quickly made it inside.
They thought they were temporarily safe...
"ROAR."
A Mutant, its mouth full of fresh blood and shredded flesh and its lips split to its ears, let out an excited hiss at the group.
Beneath it, the hotel receptionist was twitching, clearly with no hope of survival.
"!!!"
Alarm bells screamed in the driver’s head. He instinctively wanted to throw Nai’er at the creature and escape alone.
Fortunately.
He held back.
’It hasn’t come to that yet!’
He scanned his surroundings.
Meanwhile, Nai’er, her head buried in the driver’s chest, didn’t see the terrifying scene and had no idea she had just brushed with death.
"AHHH!"
One of her assistants, terrified, clutched her head, collapsed to the ground, and screamed at the top of her lungs with her eyes shut, her voice so shrill it seemed capable of tearing down the ceiling.
The driver knew they were saved.
’Bringing people along when you’re escaping has its benefits, after all.’
"WHOOSH!"
Without any warning, he turned and ran.
He had only run three steps.
A bloodcurdling scream erupted from behind him.
He didn’t need to look back; he knew that assistant had been killed!
"Help me! Sister Nai’er, save me! You... Driver, save me!"
As she was dying, the assistant tried to cry for help, only to realize she didn’t even know the driver’s name.
They had worked together for over a year, seeing each other every day, yet she couldn’t even remember his name.
And you expect someone like that to save you?
The driver was a realist. He didn’t look back, his mind clear, and made a beeline for the stairwell.
The other assistant glanced back and saw her companion’s gruesome fate. She clamped her hands over her mouth in terror, her face drained of color. But seeing the driver pulling further and further away, she quickly kicked off her high heels and ran after him barefoot.
Unfortunately.
She was rather unlucky.
"BZZZ."
A Yinfeng had flown in at some point. The moment its loud buzzing began, her fate was sealed.
"THWIP."
A black oral organ, as thick as a little finger, plunged vertically into her Baihui Acupoint.
With one violent suck,
a mix of red and white matter surged up at extreme speed, instantly filling the Yinfeng’s oral organ.
"Urk... urk..."
The assistant’s eyes flew wide open. She felt a piercing, cold sensation on the top of her head as her memories became chaotic and began to vanish. Her consciousness rapidly blurred and faded into darkness.
Her whole body twitched uncontrollably as if she were being electrocuted.
Death.
The entire process took no more than two seconds.
Another two seconds passed.
"THUD."
She collapsed, now a corpse, her body twitching unconsciously on the floor.
Upon closer inspection,
every part of her head was deflated, as if she had lost so much weight her face had become unrecognizable.
"BZZZ."
The Yin Qi around the Yinfeng grew thicker. It let out a pleased, shrill cry that made the eardrums of everyone nearby ache as if they were being pierced by needles.
A splitting pain shot through their heads.
One of them even fainted on the spot.
...
...
Xia Hongchun, Wang Dan, Wang Chunxue, and her son—the four of them.
Originally,
they wouldn’t have made it to the Jinlan International Hotel before the Mist Event broke out. After all, it was quite far, and they didn’t have a car.
Wang Chunxue spoke up. "Xia Hongchun, doesn’t your older brother have a van? Let’s take his!"
Xia Hongchun shook his head. "My brother needs that van. He uses it every day to haul things on the construction site. There’s no way he’d lend it to me."
Wang Chunxue: "What about the old bachelor’s?"
"The old bachelor" was a nickname. His real name was Xia Hongwei. He was already forty years old and still not married.
Xia Hongchun shook his head again. "If I borrow his car, I’ll have to fill up the tank for him."
Wang Dan retorted, "Then fill it up! You’re making twenty thousand a month. Why are you still worried about a little money like this?"
Uh.
Xia Hongchun thought about it. ’He has a point.’
And so,
the four of them set off by car.
"Time for me to see what it feels like to floor it and not give a damn about the gas money!"
Wang Dan slammed the accelerator to the floor, weaving crazily past other cars.
He left all sorts of luxury cars in his dust.
What’s more, their luck was pretty good—they hit green lights all the way.
They finally made it.
"Why is it getting foggy?"
"Did the lights go out? What’s going on?"
As they looked for a place to park, the group realized something was wrong.
Soon,
a bloody and brutal scene began to unfold.
"They’re eating people!"
"Monsters, ah! Monsters! What the hell is this place? Run!"
"It’s coming for us! It’s coming! Step on it! Step on the gas!"
Wang Dan and the others were finally scared. How could they dare get out of the car?
He slammed the pedal to the metal,
and charged into the mist.
But after driving for what felt like an eternity, they still couldn’t escape, as if they were in a maze. Instead, the monsters around them only grew in number.
Fortunately, their luck held out.
Driving blindly through the mist, they somehow, miraculously, ended up in the hotel’s underground garage.
"VROOOM."
With a roar of the engine, they shot into the underground garage.
Because a murder had occurred in the hotel, there weren’t many cars or people here, which meant there were naturally fewer Mutants.
They sped all the way, making a lot of noise.
At one point,
"BANG."
A Mutant suddenly leaped out, blocking their path.
"Fuck!"
Wang Dan had no time to brake and slammed right into it.
The front of the van caved in.
The van shuddered violently, and everyone inside was thrown about. In the back seat, Wang Chunxue and her son, who weren’t wearing seatbelts, smashed their noses, drawing blood. Wang Chunxue even had two of her teeth knocked out.
The vehicle rolled forward another few dozen meters before stopping.
"Go! Why aren’t we moving?"
"We’re out of gas!"
"Run! Get out, quick!"
In a panic, Wang Dan and the others scrambled out and ran.
The Mutant they had just hit had its legs broken and could only crawl in pursuit, which gave them a chance to escape.
Unfortunately,
they were rather stupid.
They actually tried to take the elevator.
"There’s no power?"
"Run! Find the stairs!"
The four of them turned to run.
But in the next moment,
the Mutant blocked the exit.
On one side was the elevator.
On the other two, walls.
There was no way out.
"*Sob...*"
Wang Chunxue burst into tears on the spot, hugging her son tightly.
Wang Dan’s legs gave out, and he hid behind his sister.
Xia Hongchun was about to retreat when Wang Chunxue shoved him forward. "Xia Hongchun, are you a man or not? Didn’t you say you would protect me for the rest of my life?"
"Go kill this monster."
Xia Hongchun shuddered.
"I... I..."
His teeth chattered as he spoke, "Why don’t you make your brother go? He’s a man too!"
Wang Chunxue roared back as if it were obvious, "He’s just a kid! How old are you? How dare you say something like that?"
Wang Dan added, "Yeah! Yeah! Brother-in-law, you’re stronger than me. You can definitely kill it."
"You..."
Just as Xia Hongchun was about to say something,
"ROAR."
the Mutant pushed off the ground with both hands, launching its body more than a foot into the air as it pounced.
"AHHH!"
Everyone screamed in terror.
Xia Hongchun instinctively kicked out, stopping the Mutant’s pounce.
"WHOOSH."
Wang Dan immediately dashed out from the side.
Wang Chunxue pulled her son along and followed right behind him, also trying to use the opportunity to escape. She even gave Xia Hongchun a shove!
Xia Hongchun, who would have had a chance to escape, was slowed by that push.
The Mutant grabbed his ankle.
"You..."
"If you won’t let me live, then none of you will!"
Xia Hongchun’s heart went cold. Rage burned away his reason, and he lunged forward with an explosive burst of strength, managing to grab the other one of Wang Chunxue’s son’s arms.
With a sharp tug,
Wang Chunxue felt her hand go empty. She turned to look.
The next moment,
a heart-wrenching scream tore through the air.
"NO!"
