I Return From Hell
Chapter 104 - 97: Xia Tian in Danger? Three-Party Action
Chapter 104: Chapter 97: Xia Tian in Danger? Three-Party Action
On the road.
RING RING RING.
The phone rang again.
’Another unknown number?’
Xia Yu frowned and immediately hung up.
’After this Mist Event is over, I’m changing my phone number.’
She had been getting repeated calls from unknown numbers over the past few days. They were almost all from Xia Hongchun, and she was sick of it.
DING.
A message notification chimed.
When Xia Yu saw the name "Xia Tian," she slammed on the brakes and pulled the car over to the side of the road. She quickly grabbed her phone and carefully read the message: If you don’t answer your phone, I’m taking Xia Tian out to eat.
An icy chill filled the air.
Her fists clenched.
Her knuckles cracked from the force.
’Why do they have to have a death wish?’
’Why?’
Everyone has a bottom line, and hers was Xia Tian!
’Touch him, and you die!’
Taking a deep breath, Xia Yu composed herself. Her expression was perfectly normal; no one would have noticed anything was wrong. She dialed the number that had just called.
"Xia Yu, you finally answered your phone."
"Your third uncle has been having a hell of a time trying to reach you."
Wang Dan chuckled mockingly. "See, brother-in-law? Told you my method was more effective."
Xia Yu’s tone was perfectly calm as she asked, "Where is Little Tian?"
"If you hadn’t answered, we were about to go find him."
Xia Hongchun took the phone, his voice filled with rage. "Xia Yu, do you have no respect for me, your elder? Why did you hang up on your third uncle? You..."
"I’ve been helping Third Uncle and Wang Dan find jobs recently."
Xia Yu cut him off. "I was going to make it a surprise, but I guess you already know."
"You’re all too kind, offering to take Little Tian to dinner to thank me? There’s no need for that. We’re family, after all."
???
Xia Hongchun and Wang Dan were utterly confused.
"Ever heard of the Jinlan International Hotel?"
"Yeah."
"Your jobs are there. Third Uncle will be head of security for 20,000 a month. Wang Dan will be a manager for 30,000 a month. Wang Chunxue will be in charge of logistics for 15,000 a month."
"It’s not hard work. You just have to tell your subordinates what to do."
Xia Yu had them completely figured out. "But," she said bluntly, "you need to come over right now."
Wang Dan could hardly believe it, but he was tempted. "Are you for real? Don’t mess with me!"
"I’m busy. Hurry up and go report in."
Without another word of explanation, Xia Yu gave her instruction and hung up.
If they went, then there was nothing more to be said.
If they didn’t, it didn’t matter. It would only mean they’d get to live a few hours longer.
...
...
"Chief Zhao, still no word?"
"Mist Events have broken out in other parts of the province. Are you sure the person behind Xie Shaokun isn’t playing us?"
Qian Yihao couldn’t hide his impatience. "We’ve been bending over backwards for Xie Shaokun and Little Nannan these past few days," he urged. "We’ve done everything we could, haven’t we?"
Chen Xiao frowned. "Should we have Xie Shaokun ask about it?"
It had to be said, they had already swallowed a lot of their pride.
Zhao Guohui said nothing, his expression calm.
But his increasingly rapid pacing betrayed his inner turmoil.
DING.
DING.
...
Four message notifications chimed in succession.
SWISH!
All three of their gazes instantly locked onto Zhao Guohui’s phone on the table!
Zhao Guohui spun around and snatched up the phone.
He flipped it open and read:
First, Luoyun Slope, 6 PM. Danger: Mutant.
Second...
Third...
Fourth...
They were all notifications about Mist Events. One was in their own city, while the other three were in Lingyang City, Central City, and Zheng City.
"It’s her!"
Zhao Guohui’s face lit up as he quickly passed the phone to Qian Yihao and Chen Xiao.
Seeing this, Qian Yihao and Chen Xiao both sighed in relief.
These past few days, every day had felt like a year.
Fortunately, their contact hadn’t let them down.
"Take your teams to these four locations immediately."
"On second thought, I’m going too!"
"The three of us will each take one Mist Event. We’ll have someone else handle the fourth."
Zhao Guohui strode out of the office while giving orders.
"Chief Zhao, you should stay here to coordinate the overall effort..."
Chen Xiao immediately protested, but she was cut off before she could finish.
"No."
Zhao Guohui’s tone left no room for argument. "The threats for these Mist Events have been clearly identified. We’re always prepared. There’s no real danger to speak of, so why shouldn’t I go?"
Chen Xiao was taken aback.
’He had a point.’
’She had been acting on preconceived notions.’
"Little Song."
Zhao Guohui looked at the approaching Little Song and instructed, "You stay here. If you see Xie Shaokun and Little Nannan emerge from the Mist Event, do not, under any circumstances, give them trouble."
They had already agreed on this, but he was still uneasy and repeated the instruction for emphasis.
"Yes, sir!"
Little Song nodded firmly.
...
...
"Nan, are you confident about this mission?"
Sitting in the SUV, Xie Shaokun looked at Cui’s Restaurant up ahead and said with total confidence, "Don’t worry, I’ll carry us!"
After several days of special training.
His marksmanship...
The less said about that, the better.
But Little Nannan, on the other hand, was a crack shot.
Plus, their bodies had been tempered twice by the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power, giving them a significant boost. Their current combat power was far beyond what it was before.
"Mm."
"We’re counting on you, Brother Kun."
Little Nannan nodded absentmindedly.
Right now, her mind was occupied by a single question:
’Why isn’t Yu coming with us? Is it really just about maximizing the rewards?’
"I will not let you down, Nan."
Xie Shaokun puffed out his chest. "We’re about to enter the Otherworld! Are you excited, Nan?"
Yu had been clear: every living being caught in this Mist Event would be pulled into the Otherworld, and most of the humans would turn into Mutants.
Of course, the Mutants weren’t the most dangerous part.
It was the...
Mutated Beasts!
He was eagerly looking forward to another clash with a Mutated Beast.
’I wonder who’s stronger now?’
"Huh?"
Just then, Xie Shaokun’s gaze locked onto a Rottweiler.
No leash.
No muzzle.
It was vicious.
Like a wild dog.
People around were scrambling to get away from it.
’It’s strong!’
Based on the criteria Yu had given him, Xie Shaokun determined that if this Rottweiler got caught in the Mist Event, there was a high probability it would form a Crystal Core. Moreover, the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power it contained would be far greater than that of an ordinary core!
’So, I absolutely cannot let it get away!’
He glanced at the time: 5:55!
’There’s still time!’
Suddenly.
"WOOF, grrr... grrr..."
"AHH!"
The Rottweiler locked onto a woman, baring its teeth as it advanced. She was so terrified her voice trembled as she spoke, "Get your dog away from me, now!"
"Haha."
However, the dog’s owner—a pot-bellied, middle-aged man—found the situation hilarious. He even started showing off to his young son who stood beside him.
A flicker of excitement appeared in the little boy’s once-innocent eyes.
"Nan."
"Do you know what the biggest thing I learned was, from all that training?"
Xie Shaokun’s eyes narrowed. He grabbed the collapsible baton stashed in the seat-back pocket and asked.
"What?"
Little Nannan had no idea what he was talking about, but she played along.
"The Apocalypse is coming. We can still choose to restrain ourselves, to not break the law or trample on morality. But there’s no reason to suppress ourselves like we used to."
"Walking a dog without a leash is like a dog walking a dog."
"When you’re dealing with animals, why the hell should I hold back?"
"Time to fuck him up!"
SLAM.
Before Little Nannan could even answer, he slammed the car door open and charged out.
A chaotic brawl erupted.
Onlookers had different interpretations: ’A hero saving a damsel in distress,’ ’Some kid trying to act tough,’ ’An angel descending,’ ’Just a busybody.’
The scene drew an even larger crowd.
The mist began to roll in.
At the same time, Little Nannan finally figured it out. ’As long as Yu doesn’t get caught, Brother Kun and I will be safe!’
