Chapter 445: 445:Epilogue I - A future beyond divinity.

The world did not recover overnight.

Even with the Sovereign of Fire dead and the corruption that had plagued the continents finally losing its source, thousands of years of damage could not simply disappear.

The black veins spreading through forests and mountains gradually faded, corrupted creatures either died or lost the unnatural power sustaining them, and the Blood Ocean, which had once threatened to swallow entire coastal settlements, slowly began returning to its original color.

Some lands recovered within weeks, while others remained barren, their Aether veins damaged so severely that even the combined efforts of the strongest experts could not restore them immediately. Cities needed rebuilding, roads had to be repaired, and countless families still searched for loved ones who would never return.

Atheline could have used his Divine Authority to accelerate much of the recovery, and he did intervene where the damage threatened entire populations, but he quickly discovered that possessing the Authority of Origin did not mean he could casually undo every consequence of the war.

Restoring a destroyed forest was one thing. Bringing back thousands of individual lives without disturbing the natural order was something else entirely.

Besides, the world needed to learn how to stand without depending on him for everything.

Fortunately, the war had accomplished something thousands of years of diplomacy had failed to achieve.

The continents were finally cooperating.

Human merchants could now be seen entering Dark Elven cities without attracting the same suspicious looks as before, Demonic representatives regularly attended diplomatic meetings in the Elven Continent, and Beastkin and Dwarven craftsmen had become particularly popular because of their contributions to reconstruction.

Dragonic Island also began welcoming more visitors, although Draco made it abundantly clear that anyone causing trouble would personally experience the consequences.

The fairy sanctuary, meanwhile, was no longer completely hidden from the world.

Lyria had initially opposed opening its borders, but after centuries of sacrificing their lives to maintain an ancient seal, the fairies had finally earned the right to live for themselves.

Perhaps the greatest sign of change appeared in the High Elven Kingdom.

One morning, a small golden-green sprout emerged beside the ancient World Tree.

It was barely taller than a person’s hand, yet its appearance caused celebrations throughout the continent. The World Tree had survived, and for the first time since the Cataclysm, it had produced a new sprout carrying an entirely uncorrupted connection to the world’s Aether.

The ancient age had finally ended and a new one had begun.

And with that new age came a rather troublesome problem for the Dark Elven Kingdom.

Their king was now a god.

---

"Your... Divine Majesty?"

Atheline slowly raised his head.

The Noble elder stood before his desk, looking considerably more uncomfortable than someone who had survived the greatest war in recorded history should have been.

Atheline stared at him.

"Please don’t."

The councillor cleared his throat.

"Then perhaps Your Divine Highness?"

"No."

"Your Godly Majesty?"

"Absolutely not."

The councillor looked genuinely distressed.

"Your Majesty, you must understand that there has never been an established form of address for a reigning monarch who has achieved true divinity."

Atheline leaned back in his chair.

"Then continue calling me Your Majesty."

"But that hardly reflects your position."

"It reflects the position I’m currently occupying."

Atheline gestured toward the mountain of documents covering his desk.

"Unfortunately."

A soft laugh came from the nearby sofa.

Lilith sat comfortably with a cup of tea, looking entirely too pleased with his suffering.

Unlike Atheline, she had successfully crossed into Sovereignty during the final war, completing her transformation into the Sovereign of Darkness. Her Authority was now entirely her own, and the complete core she’d inherited had become the foundation of a power that even the oldest surviving Sovereigns acknowledged.

She was also the only person in the palace who seemed completely uninterested in the fact that her husband had become a god.

"Perhaps I should start calling you Your Divinity," she suggested.

Atheline looked at her.

"Don’t you dare."

Lilith smiled.

"Would Your Divinity prefer more tea?"

"Lilith."

"Or perhaps Your Divine Husband?"

The Head Councillor suddenly became fascinated by the documents in his hands.

Atheline sighed.

"I saved the world for this."

"You saved the world because you love me."

"That too."

Lilith laughed, while Atheline returned his attention to the documents with an expression that suggested the God of Calamity had been a considerably more pleasant opponent.

Unfortunately, godhood had not exempted him from paperwork. If anything, matters had become worse.

There were diplomatic agreements to approve, reconstruction funds to distribute, territorial disputes to resolve and an alarming number of religious organizations requesting permission to establish temples dedicated to him.

Atheline had rejected the last request seventeen times. The eighteenth was currently sitting on his desk.

He picked it up, read the first paragraph and then burned it.

The noble elder closed his eyes.

"Your Majesty."

"What?"

"We discussed this."

"It was an accident."

"You used Divine Authority."

"A divine accident."

Lilith nearly spilled her tea laughing.

---

The changes Atheline made to the world were surprisingly few.

He had no intention of replacing the World Will or rewriting every Law simply because he now possessed the power to interfere with them.

However, there was one restriction he refused to leave untouched.

For countless generations, the world’s natural order had limited how Sovereign Authority could develop, particularly when it came to souls attempting to establish more than one fundamental Authority or advance beyond the boundaries imposed upon them.

Atheline removed those artificial restrictions.

From that moment onward, anyone who genuinely comprehended a Law deeply enough could attempt to become a Sovereign, and those who continued beyond Sovereignty could theoretically pursue divinity itself.

That didn’t mean the world would suddenly become filled with gods.

Reaching Mystic was already extraordinarily difficult, becoming a Sovereign required genuine comprehension and an identity capable of sustaining Authority, and divinity demanded something far beyond merely accumulating Aether.

Atheline had opened the road but hadn’t made the journey easier.

Draco, upon hearing about the changes, had simply laughed and remarked that the younger generations would now have considerably fewer excuses for their failures.

Lilith had been less amused.

"You realize someone might eventually challenge you?"

Atheline had shrugged.

"Then I hope they’re interesting," he nonchalantly said.

"You’re impossible."

"You married me."

"An increasingly questionable decision."

Despite her complaints, Lilith understood his reasoning.

Atheline had spent too long witnessing what happened when destiny and ancient restrictions decided what people were allowed to become. He had no intention of replacing one cage with another, even if he happened to be the person holding the key.
