I reincarnated as an elf .......and married the yandere villainess.
Chapter 435:I’m not him.
Chapter 435: 435:I’m not him.
His eyes widened slightly.
"It does not make you my successor." The man looked back at him. "And it does not make you me."
Something inside Atheline loosened. He hadn’t realized until then that part of him had feared exactly that.
They had a lot of similarities the white hair, the bow, the elemental affinities, the memories, the orb and the mysterious fragment: too many similarities.
A small part of him had wondered whether everything he’d become belonged to someone else.
The Supreme Sovereign seemed to answer the fear directly.
"Whatever you become belongs to you."
Atheline stared at him.
"I leave only a possibility."
The orb floated between them.
"Not power."
Cracks appeared across its surface.
"Permission."
Atheline frowned.
The orb shattered, inside was something colorless.
The fragment.
The thing that had been hiding behind Atheline’s core.
"The Laws of this world reject contradiction." The fragment rotated. "Your soul may not."
Atheline’s elements appeared around him. The Supreme Sovereign watched them.
His eyes widened. The memory was reacting to him. Those weren’t the Supreme Sovereign’s elements being displayed, they were his.
"The orb does not give you these." The Supreme Sovereign said. "It only prevents this world’s Laws from forcing you into a single answer before you are ready to choose what you become."
Atheline finally understood. The orb hadn’t given him his multi-elemental core. His abnormality existed before that.
The orb had recognized it.
His soul came from outside Eldernor’s original laws.
Even though he’d originally been born in Eldernor in the previous recurrence, his soul had escaped during Nirvana, lived an entire life on Earth, and returned carrying the imprint of another world’s existence.
He was no longer completely defined by either. He belonged here but the world’s Laws could no longer claim exclusive ownership over what he was.
That was why his core accepted contradiction.
Wind and Earth.
Fire and Ice.
Movement and Stillness.
Transformation and Preservation.
Six truths that should have fought for dominance could coexist because Atheline’s soul didn’t automatically submit to the world’s rule that one Sovereign Authority must become the defining foundation.
The Supreme Sovereign looked toward him.
"You may still fail."
Atheline snorted.
"Encouraging."
"You may die."
"Less encouraging."
"Your soul may break if you mistake freedom from limitation for freedom from consequence."
Atheline stopped joking.
That mattered, being abnormal didn’t mean limitless. Six Authorities would still need balance, understanding and a foundation capable of holding them. He couldn’t simply collect Laws like weapons.
The Supreme Sovereign continued.
"But if you succeed..."
The World Tree moved, thousands of leaves rising into the air.
"...you may become something this world has never produced."
Atheline felt his Laws responding, and none suppressed the others.
For the first time, Atheline understood why his training had ended with balance rather than dominance.
He wasn’t supposed to choose which element would consume the rest. He needed to find what allowed all six truths to belong to him simultaneously.
His path to Sovereign wouldn’t be six separate breakthroughs, nor could it be an ordinary single-element Sovereignty.
He needed a central truth.
Something belonging to Atheline, rather than any one element.
His expression slowly changed.
That was what he was missing. The Supreme Sovereign raised his bow.
"The world will try to name you."
The memory began fading.
"Hero."
The World Tree disappeared piece by piece.
"Villain."
The sky darkened.
"Destined one."
The Supreme Sovereign’s body began turning into light.
"Anomaly."
Atheline watched silently.
"Successor."
Only the man’s eyes remained clear.
"Perhaps even god."
The fragment inside Atheline pulsed.
"Don’t let it."
Atheline frowned.
The Supreme Sovereign smiled.
"Name yourself."
The memory shattered.
Atheline woke on the archive floor, he inhaled sharply.
Lilith was kneeling beside him. One hand held his shoulder while the other was surrounded by darkness.
Several guards had entered.
The High Elven scholar stood against the wall looking terrified.
Atheline blinked the drowsiness away.
"How long?"
"Seven minutes."
"Felt longer."
"What happened?"
Atheline slowly sat up.
His core felt different, clearer. For months, he’d sensed Laws circling something he couldn’t understand.
Now he knew why.
The mysterious fragment wasn’t another elemental core. It wasn’t the Supreme Sovereign’s soul. It wasn’t trying to turn Atheline into him.
It was a key.
A safeguard.
Something designed to keep the world’s Laws from prematurely forcing his abnormal soul into the same structure as everyone else.
Lilith watched his expression.
"Atheline."
He looked at her.
"I’m not him."
Lilith frowned.
"Who?"
"The Supreme Sovereign."
Her expression softened slightly.
"You thought you were?"
"No." Atheline paused. "Maybe a little."
He rubbed his face.
"There were too many coincidences."
"The bow."
"Yes."
"The orb."
"Yes."
"Your elements."
"Exactly."
Lilith stared at him for several seconds, then flicked his forehead.
Atheline recoiled.
"Ow."
"Idiot."
"That was unnecessarily violent."
"You needed an ancient dead Sovereign to tell you that you’re yourself?"
Atheline opened his mouth then closed it.
"Apparently."
She shook her head but her hand found his.
Atheline squeezed it, then he explained everything.
When he finished, Lilith remained quiet for a long time. Then she looked toward his chest.
"So normal people can only establish one true Sovereign Authority."
"Properly, yes."
"Because the moment their soul establishes one, the world’s Laws recognize that as their fundamental Authority."
Atheline nodded.
"Additional elements can still exist, but creating completely independent Sovereign Authorities becomes another matter."
"And you?"
Atheline looked at his hand.
Wind appeared, then Fire.
They rotated around each other.
"I don’t know."
Lilith raised an eyebrow.
"That was a very long explanation to end with ’I don’t know.’"
"The Supreme Sovereign didn’t know either."
"Wonderful."
"He predicted someone like me could appear. He didn’t write an instruction manual."
Lilith sighed.
Atheline smiled, then became serious.
"My soul isn’t unrestricted."
He remembered the warning.
"I can still break myself."
"Then don’t."
"Excellent advice."
"I’m Queen. My advice is excellent."
Atheline laughed.
For the first time in days, genuinely, then his expression changed again. He understood something else now.
"That’s why the World Will couldn’t account for me."
Lilith watched him.
"In the previous recurrence, I belonged here."
He thought about his first death and his second death, then his return.
"But Nirvana lost me."
His soul crossed worlds, lived beneath different laws, developed an existence outside Eldernor, then returned.
"The Atheline who came back wasn’t the same kind of existence that left."
Lilith’s fingers tightened around his.
"You are still Atheline."
He looked at her.
"I know."
This time there was no uncertainty, that was the important part.
He wasn’t the Supreme Sovereign. He wasn’t a replacement created to finish someone else’s battle. He wasn’t a reincarnated ancient hero unknowingly walking the same path.
The Supreme Sovereign hadn’t known anything about him.
He had simply looked at a doomed world and realized that the solution couldn’t come entirely from within the same system that kept repeating its failures.
So he’d left a door unlocked.
Thousands of years later, Atheline happened to be the one capable of opening it. What he did after walking through was his choice.
He stood.
The fragment behind his core was visible to his perception now. It was colorless, quiet and waiting with six elemental Laws surrounding it.
For the first time, they didn’t feel like six separate roads. They felt like pieces waiting for him to decide what road they belonged to.
Atheline closed his eyes.
He could feel Sovereign, very close, closer than ever... but he didn’t cross, not yet.
Lilith noticed.
"You could try."
"No." Atheline opened his eyes. "Not until I understand what connects them."
"Freedom?"
"That’s Wind."
"Balance?"
"Too vague."
"Existence?"
Atheline gave her a look.
"You’ve been spending too much time around ancient ruins."
Lilith smiled.
Atheline looked toward the window.
Outside, the world continued falling apart. There wasn’t much time, but rushing into Sovereignty incorrectly could destroy the very advantage the Supreme Sovereign had spent his final years preparing.
Atheline touched his chest.
"One soul normally carries one Authority."
Six faint elemental signatures answered.
He smiled slightly.
"Apparently nobody told mine."
Lilith rolled her eyes.
"Don’t become arrogant."
"Too late."
"I can still stab you."
"That would be inconvenient with the apocalypse approaching."
"I’ll wait until afterward."
Atheline laughed softly, then the humor faded. Because another implication had become clear.
The Sovereign of Fire had tried to create godhood by stealing and combining multiple Divine Authorities.
His body couldn’t naturally contain them. He’d needed the World Tree as a core, a ritual, sacrifices, the deaths of other Sovereigns, and even then, the result had been an incomplete god that shattered the world.
Atheline looked down at his hand.
He might eventually be capable of reaching the same destination through an entirely different path, by creating each Authority himself.
Six Laws with one soul capable of holding them and identity connecting them.
And perhaps, beyond Sovereignty...
Atheline stopped himself.
Too far.
First Sovereign, then survive Fire, then worry about gods.
Lilith apparently read his expression.
"What ridiculous thing are you thinking about now?"
"Nothing."
"Atheline."
He looked at her, then smiled.
"I think I finally understand why the orb chose me."
Lilith waited.
Atheline looked toward the ancient words left by a man who’d died thousands of years before either of them were born.
"It wasn’t waiting for the Supreme Sovereign to return." His six elements stirred. "It was waiting for someone who never belonged to his destiny in the first place... ha... how fucking ironic."
