I Really Didn’t Mean to Make Money
Chapter 391: A Residential Complex
As Yang Yaoyao thought to herself, she had already pulled out her phone, found her mother’s number, and dialed.
“Hello? Yaoyao, calling so late—did something happen?”
The call connected, and her mother’s voice came through, tinged with concern.
Yang Yaoyao felt a warm flutter in her chest.
“Mom, I’m fine. I just wanted to let you know that I’ll be heading back to Jiangcheng tomorrow to start my internship.”
“You’ve decided to work at President Chen’s company?”
Dong Hong’s voice lit up with surprise.
“No, the company I chose is also in Jiangcheng. I’m going to sign the contract with them tomorrow, and I’ll be working there from now on.”
Yang Yaoyao explained, already expecting her parents to bring up President Chen.
“I see. So when will you be coming home? Your dad and I will prepare something delicious for you.”Dong Hong didn’t press the issue further.
“I’ll be back after you both get off work tomorrow. I’ll have a classmate with me too—she’ll be staying at our place for a few days.”
“Alright, got it. It’s getting late, you should rest.”
“Okay, Mom.”
Yang Yaoyao responded softly and then hung up.
Liu Weiwei, seeing her end the call, raised her own phone.
“I’ve booked the tickets. Let’s pack up now and head out tomorrow.”
“Okay!”
Yang Yaoyao nodded.
The two of them began packing their things in the dorm.
……
“Our daughter called. She said she found an internship in Jiangcheng.”
Dong Hong put down the phone and turned to look at Yang Dahai, who was sitting on the sofa.
“She’s grown up. Let her make her own choices. She knows what she’s doing.”
Yang Dahai responded casually, eyes still on the TV.
“But I still think joining President Chen’s company would be better. We know the place, and the benefits aren’t bad either. I’ve heard a lot of people are lining up to get into Mingri Group, but they can’t even get in.”
“President Chen even offered to arrange a position for her. That’s such a big favor. And yet she turned it down.”
Dong Hong sat beside him, looking a bit downcast.
“Oh, don’t overthink it. She’s going back to Jiangcheng tomorrow for her internship. We’ll get to see her every day from now on. Isn’t that a good thing?”
“Besides, after she’s been in Jiangcheng for a while, she might come to realize just how good President Chen’s company really is.”
“Maybe then, she’ll decide to join them after all.”
Yang Dahai gently tried to reassure her.
“Sigh.”
Dong Hong let out a soft sigh at his words and didn’t say anything more.
……
The next day,
At Jiangcheng Airport,
Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei walked out with their luggage and flagged down a taxi by the roadside.
“Changbai Scenic Garden, please,” Yang Yaoyao told the driver, then turned to Liu Weiwei.
“Let’s drop off our luggage at my place first, then head to Boring Short Video to sign the contract.”
“Okay!”
Liu Weiwei nodded. They had already discussed the plan the night before.
They would stay at Yang Yaoyao’s home for a few days while they searched for a place to rent.
About an hour and a half later, the taxi pulled up at the entrance of Changbai Scenic Garden.
Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei got out with their luggage, taking in the view of the residential complex.
“Yaoyao, this place looks really nice. Why don’t we look for a place to rent here too? It’s close to your home.”
Liu Weiwei eyed the entrance setup and the security guards standing at the gate.
It was clearly a high-end residential area.
“Yeah, we can check and see if there’s anything suitable. Renting here wouldn’t be bad.”
Yang Yaoyao looked around and didn’t object. Even though she was back home, she had planned to move out and live with Liu Weiwei once they started working.
But if they could find a place close to her parents’ home, she’d be more than happy with that.
“Alright, I’ll check online in a bit to see what’s available.”
Liu Weiwei nodded.
After registering at the gate, the two entered the complex.
Following the address her mother had given her, Yang Yaoyao led the way to their building. She buzzed the security to unlock the door, then took the elevator up to her family’s apartment.
She entered the passcode on the fingerprint lock and stepped inside.
As she opened the door, Yang Yaoyao took a moment to carefully look around the layout of the apartment. Her parents had moved after the New Year, so she had only heard her mother describe the new place a few times. She didn’t really know what it looked like.
“Wow, it’s really spacious.”
Liu Weiwei slipped on a pair of slippers and looked around, impressed.
“Yeah, it’s over 130 square meters, three bedrooms. One for my parents, one for my little sister, and one empty room—perfect for us.”
As she spoke, Yang Yaoyao opened the doors to the rooms to take a look.
The master bedroom was clearly her parents’, and another room had a small study desk, obviously her little sister’s.
“Alright, this one’s ours.”
Yang Yaoyao opened the third bedroom and glanced inside. There was a wardrobe and a large bed, freshly made with clean sheets and two new quilts. It was clear that after her phone call, her parents had prepared everything that very night.
They had even added an extra quilt, knowing she might bring a friend.
After placing their suitcases in the room, the two of them left the house without lingering.
By now, it was already noon. They had an appointment with Boring Short Video Platform that afternoon to sign a contract, so they needed to hurry. This was an important matter—they couldn’t afford to be late.
Leaving the residential complex,
they hailed a cab and headed straight for Boring Short Video.
………
At Boring Short Video,
Li Shen and Wu Yu returned to the office after lunch.
“Those two students from the teacher-training university will be coming this afternoon to sign the contract. Where do you think we should place them?” Li Shen rubbed his temples, looking at Wu Yu with a troubled expression.
At Boring Short Video Platform, the employees were mainly divided into three teams.
The first was the quality control team, responsible for strictly vetting all products that appeared in the live streaming rooms. The second team handled streamer selection, ensuring that only truly capable streamers were chosen to go live on the platform—no slackers allowed.
The third was the maintenance team. They monitored the platform for bugs, inappropriate content from streamers, and other technical or compliance issues.
But Liu Weiwei and her friend were just students from a teacher-training university. It didn’t seem like they fit naturally into any of these roles.
Wu Yu thought for a moment, then offered a suggestion.
“Why don’t we just let them continue handling the Academic Subject Live Streams? They can monitor the backend data—track how many viewers are watching educational streams, tally the number of active streamers, and break it down by subject.”
“Then, based on the viewership numbers for each subject, we can adjust the number of streamers accordingly—or even increase them.”
“……”
