Chapter 470: Chapter 470: The Unfortunate Lover

Once the group confirmed Yvette Chandler’s address, they drove straight to her home without stopping.

Gregory Sherwood drove, Logan Lockhart sat in the passenger seat, and the three girls squeezed into the back.

They had just gotten in the car and settled when Eloise Donovan couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Serena, how did you know something was going to happen to her?"

"Right after lunch, I messaged Mr. Rhodes and asked him for a recent photo of Guinevere Rhodes."

"Mr. Rhodes? Is that the one related to your Lynch Family by marriage?" Jessica Lockhart heard her and immediately guessed his identity.

"Yes. He’s the son of my cousin’s aunt, so he’s basically his cousin."

It turned out that while having lunch with Jessica Lockhart earlier, Arabella Donovan happened to learn that the current mission’s target was named Logan Lockhart—the number one simp for the female lead in the original novel. She had instantly guessed the identity of the girlfriend who was giving Lockhart such a headache.

Having already gained a deep understanding of the so-called "subtle and biased writing" in the original novel, Arabella Donovan naturally didn’t believe for a second that Guinevere Rhodes was Logan Lockhart’s long-lost Lover. So she acted decisively, messaging Caspian Rhodes to ask for a recent photo of Guinevere. This would allow her to discern the true nature of Guinevere’s relationship with Mr. Lockhart.

The moment she met Logan Lockhart, Arabella Donovan could see that his Red Simurgh Star was stirring. However, the primary star was hidden behind a secondary one, its light completely obscured and appearing faint. This meant that Logan Lockhart’s true love had already appeared, but her brilliance was being overshadowed by a toxic romance that had come out of nowhere, dimming her presence.

’Considering Logan Lockhart’s situation, the most likely scenario is that Guinevere Rhodes has impersonated his true love, stolen her identity, and even extinguished the light of his fated connection. A complete usurpation—the villain has her day.’

’But Guinevere Rhodes is the one orchestrating this. I can’t really get much more information from Logan Lockhart himself.’

’Fortunately, Caspian Rhodes came through. The photo arrived quickly. And looking at this photo...’

"Guinevere Rhodes and Yvette Chandler were probably university classmates. But while they were classmates, Yvette Chandler’s grades were excellent—she was a bona fide top student. Guinevere, on the other hand, only got into that university through a special exception because her family made a large donation."

"Logically, the two of them never should have crossed paths. Their family backgrounds, grades, and even social circles were completely different. They weren’t in the same major, one lived on campus while the other commuted, so they should have had no interaction at all."

"But many things in this world happen through a strange twist of fate. The reason these two, who were as different as night and day, crossed paths—or rather, the reason Guinevere unilaterally took notice of Yvette Chandler—was because a senior in her major, whom she had a huge crush on, was secretly in love with Yvette."

"That’s not particularly surprising. Yvette Chandler had good grades, a gentle personality, and the kind of looks that weren’t stunning at first glance but were very pleasant and comforting. It was inevitable that people would like her."

"But for Guinevere Rhodes, who had enjoyed smooth sailing her entire life, this was something incomprehensible and unbearable."

"Because of this, she started paying attention to Yvette and dug up some information about her."

"One of those things was the fact that she had started a relationship with Logan Lockhart in a game."

"It’s worth mentioning that one time, the computer classes for their two different majors were scheduled back-to-back in the same computer lab."

"Guinevere was paying extra attention to Yvette at the time, so when she entered the classroom, she almost immediately sat down at the computer Yvette had just used in the previous class. And by a huge coincidence, Yvette had logged into her game account on that very computer and forgotten to log out."

"Just like that, through a remarkable coincidence, Guinevere Rhodes was able to see the game’s chat history, which should have only been known to the two of them. She took note of their connection." 𝐟𝑟ⅇ

"Then, a few years later, she was surprised to learn that the person who had been dating Yvette Chandler in the game back then was none other than her recent target, Mr. Lockhart—Logan Lockhart."

Arabella: "..."

’Seriously? So many coincidences? This is practically an XP pack, meticulously designed by the author and fed right to the heroine’s mouth. What did that little couple ever do to anyone, just falling in love? How did they become just another part of your "chosen one" routine? This is outrageous!’

Eloise Donovan nodded in deep agreement. Indeed, the setup was so deliberate it was like a big red gift box placed right in front of someone, tempting them to just go up and take the prize.

However, she also had a question.

"Does this Miss Chandler know that Mr. Lockhart is the old acquaintance she started a relationship with in the game back then?"

The moment Eloise Donovan said this, Logan Lockhart, sitting in the passenger seat, instantly whipped his head around to look, his expression slightly cramped and uneasy.

"She probably didn’t know at first," Arabella replied. "But recently, the whole affair between those two has been making such a huge fuss. It’d be hard for the girl not to know, right?"

Logan Lockhart’s expression froze slightly, and Jessica Lockhart shot him a glare, exasperated by his foolishness.

Eloise Donovan’s brows furrowed slightly as she asked the very question that was weighing most heavily on Logan Lockhart’s mind at that moment.

"Then why didn’t she tell Mr. Lockhart that she’d been impersonated?"

"How could she tell him? Just run up to the inseparable little couple and tell the guy that she’s the long-lost Lover he’s been searching for all these years? Setting aside whether he’d even believe her, anyone watching would probably think she had ulterior motives and was deliberately trying to come between the couple, right?"

"Of course, there could be deeper reasons. Maybe she saw that Logan Lockhart and Guinevere Rhodes were well-matched in terms of family background and felt insecure. Or maybe due to some accident, she couldn’t log into her game account anymore and couldn’t produce concrete evidence to prove her identity."

"Either way, by a bizarre twist of fate, this couple who should have reunited missed their best chance. It allowed the imposter, Guinevere Rhodes, to successfully take her place, usurp the nest, and in the end, completely destroy it."

After hearing Arabella Donovan’s explanation, Jessica Lockhart grew angrier the more she thought about it. The look she gave her brother was as if she were about to clean house.

"Is that thing on your neck just for decoration? The real person was right under your nose, and you still managed to fall for such a ridiculous bait-and-switch! What am I even supposed to say to you?"

Logan Lockhart was verbally demolished by his sister and didn’t dare say a word in his defense. It was clear he was also stunned by his own previous negligence and stupidity, filled with immense regret.

Arabella Donovan glanced at the two of them and thoughtfully recalled the description of this brother-sister duo in the original plot.

’As the older sister of the cannon-fodder supporting male character, Logan Lockhart, Jessica Lockhart’s role in the plot was actually that of the "evil mother-in-law." Later in the story, she even single-handedly created the classic, dramatic scene: "Here’s five million, leave my son—oh, no, leave my brother."’

’And Miss Chandler, whose identity as the Lover was stolen by Guinevere Rhodes, was accidentally handed the "vicious female supporting character" script. The original plot didn’t even bother to mention her name, only that Jessica Lockhart was very fond of a girl in her brother’s department.’

’It even got to the point where her brother, refusing to learn his lesson, insisted on protecting Guinevere Rhodes and opposing his sister. Exasperated, Jessica sighed in front of that very girl, "If only that brat of ours had fallen for you instead."’
