Chapter 346: Chapter 346: Then I’ll Just Have to Call for Backup

The moment she spoke, the atmosphere in the hospital room froze.

"You!" Mrs. Gallagher’s face darkened, but she quickly composed herself. She let out a breath and said condescendingly, "As expected of someone from the lower class who’s never seen the world. You don’t even know about the Gallagher Family, the family behind The Gallagher Corporation—the largest trading company in all of Jarden."

"No wonder you were being so stubborn and refused to apologize. Now that you know who we are, you’d better kneel and beg me to be merciful and spare your lives."

Arabella blinked, not the least bit intimidated. "The largest trading company in Jarden? How large? Is it bigger than Miss Kerr’s family’s company?"

"Sweetheart, you can’t compare them like that," Mrs. Lynch said. "Your Miss Kerr’s family is in the jewelry business, with chain stores all over the country. If we’re only looking at their size within this city, the Gallaghers might be a *tiny* bit stronger. But when you factor in their reach and overall scale of operations, the Gallagher family really can’t compare to Miss Kerr."

"What nonsense are you spouting? Kerr? Which Kerr? I’d like to see which boss named Kerr in Jarden dares to challenge the Gallagher family."

By now, Mr. Gallagher had realized something was amiss. He hurriedly tugged his wife’s hand and warned in a low voice, "That’s enough. Just be quiet."

"I..." Mrs. Gallagher pressed her lips together, unconvinced. But ultimately, not wanting to defy her beloved husband, she reluctantly shut her mouth.

Arabella ignored the little spat between the couple, nodding as if she only half-understood. "Oh, so that’s how it is."

"Of course, your Miss Kerr has one more thing that puts her far ahead of the Gallaghers."

"What is it?"

"Heirs, of course. Your Miss Kerr is a powerhouse, and she’s raised her children well. As for the Gallaghers... Master Gallagher is certainly a formidable man, but his descendants are a real letdown. He has over forty children, and astonishingly, not a single one of them is worth a damn. And don’t even get me started on the grandchildren. Most of them are just spoiled, debauched, good-for-nothings." As Mrs. Lynch spoke, she shot a meaningful glance at Mr. Gallagher and Howard.

The things Mrs. Gallagher cared about most in this world were her husband, her son, and the Gallagher family inheritance. Mrs. Lynch’s words made her fly into a rage on the spot.

"You bitch, you’re spouting nonsense..."

"Shut your mouth!" Mr. Gallagher could no longer restrain himself and lunged forward to clamp a hand over his wife’s mouth.

’How did I never realize my wife was this stupid? These people know our family’s situation like the back of their hands, yet they weren’t the least bit fazed by our threats. It’s obvious they have no fear of us whatsoever.’

’Even if their family background isn’t as prestigious as the Gallaghers’, it can’t be that far off. They aren’t people we can afford to offend. We made a huge mistake coming here today!’

Seeing the couple’s expressions, Arabella could guess what this so-called "legitimate eldest son" of the Gallagher family was thinking. A flicker of derision and mockery crossed her eyes.

"So, from the sound of it, their family isn’t all that impressive, is it? For them to say things like we should get out of Jarden, and that crushing us would be as easy as crushing an ant... I think someone needs to teach them a lesson. Don’t you agree?"

Though the members of the Donovan and Lynch families weren’t sure what she was planning, they agreed without hesitation.

"Whatever you want to do, we’ll support you."

"That’s right! Do whatever you want. We’ll follow your lead."

Arabella gave a bashful smile. "Well, since no one objects, I’m going to call for backup."

’Call for backup?’ The two families exchanged blank, confused looks.

The next moment, they heard Arabella pull out her phone and start tattling right then and there.

"Grand-uncle, do you know anyone from the Gallagher family in Jarden who’s actually in charge?"

’Everyone: !!!’ ’So *that’s* what she meant by ’calling for backup’?!’

"It’s like this... my cousin and I were out today, and when we were driving home, we accidentally hit someone who ran out of nowhere in the underground parking garage..."

"Hey! Watch your mouth, you little bitch! What do you mean, ’ran out of nowhere’?"

"Be quiet," Mr. Gallagher snapped. His temples were throbbing. An icy chill shot up his spine, so cold he couldn’t stop a shiver, and his expression grew grim.

Dennis Donovan, on the other end of the line, had clearly heard Mrs. Gallagher’s shrieked curse. His voice deepened as he asked, "Is someone yelling at you?"

"Oh, that was the mother of the person we hit. She just called me a little bitch. But that’s not the important part."

Everyone who had witnessed the scene thought, "..." ’No, that *is* the point.’

’If it were them, and they suddenly got a call like that, and then personally heard someone cursing out their family’s precious little darling, they’d see red in an instant!’

"Ahem. The point is, we hit someone and he broke a bone. We called the police and an ambulance to take him to the hospital. The traffic police issued a formal report on liability, and my cousin and I made it clear that we’d cover his medical expenses and give him an extra 100,000 as compensation."

Arabella paused, then glanced pointedly at Mrs. Gallagher, who was glaring daggers at her from a short distance away.

"But his mother claims we’re humiliating them, that 100,000 is charity for a beggar. She’s insisting that my cousin and I have to get on our knees and apologize to her son, or else she’ll have our heads."

"Oh, and she also just said that in Jarden, the Gallagher family *is* the law, and that actual laws are just scams for poor, low-class people like us. She said crushing us would be as easy as crushing an ant."

It had to be said, Arabella was an expert at effective tattling.

The moment those words left her mouth, even without speakerphone, those standing nearest to her could faintly hear the furious roar from the other end of the line.

"Bastards! How dare they!"

"The Gallaghers dare to be so lawless, to say such outrageous things? My dear granddaughter, you just stay put and stay safe. Grand-uncle is going to find someone to put them in their place for you. She thinks 100,000 is charity for a beggar, does she? Well, Grandpa is about to make them into *real* beggars!"

Dennis Donovan hung up. Given his impetuous nature, he would probably have people here in no time.

Even now, Mrs. Gallagher still didn’t believe the people in front of her were anyone important. Standing by her son’s sickbed, she curled her lip in disdain.

"All an act, just putting on a brave face. I’d like to see just who you can possibly call!"

The words had barely left her mouth when Mr. Gallagher’s phone rang. He glanced down and saw it was a call from his father’s trusted aide.

"Mr. Wealth, you’re downstairs? Yes, my wife and I are on the third floor, in Room 310. You’re coming up now? Alright, we’ll wait for you here."

"What’s happening? Why is Mr. Wealth here?" Mrs. Gallagher’s expression changed at the mention of his name.

This Mr. Wealth was one of Master Gallagher’s long-serving retainers. He had been by Master Gallagher’s side longer than any of his own children, and his status was far higher than theirs.

"Perhaps Master Gallagher heard about Howard’s accident and sent him to check on things."

But even as he said it, the unease in Mr. Gallagher’s heart grew. His intuition screamed at him that something terrible was about to happen!
