I Pick up a Lost Godhood
Chapter 596 - 577: The Eternity of the Flower and the Cow Dung
Jiang Jiedao and Jiang Jiehuan also sized up their prospective brother-in-law... His clothes looked like they’d been through a wringer, giving him a thoroughly wretched appearance.
Jiang Jiehuan was quite interested. From the looks of him, he had just taken a nasty fall. At least it seemed to have knocked some of the arrogance out of him.
Jiang Biyao’s gaze, however, flickered with uncertainty.
Wang Meng smiled. "Uncle, you’re too kind. Your nephew here was just having a bit of fun and ran into some robbers on the road. I was lucky to escape. Please excuse my appearance."
"Ah, who would be so audacious! It’s a good thing you’re alright, a good thing indeed." Jiang Shiqing, ever the cunning old fox, laughed it off with no intention of investigating further. ’Your enemies are all over Haojing,’ he thought. ’There’s a long line of people who want you dead.’
Jiang Shiqing then introduced his three children to Wang Meng.
Jiang Jiehuan flashed a brilliant smile and seized Wang Meng’s hand. "Brother Rencai, your reputation precedes you! Seeing you today, I can tell the rumors don’t do you justice!"
As he spoke, he tightened his grip. Wang Meng didn’t resist. Jiang Jiehuan was at the Fifth Layer of the Profound Wheel Realm or higher; with Wang Rencai’s meager strength, struggling would be pointless. Yet, not a flicker of discomfort showed on his face.
"It’s an undeserved reputation,"
Wang Meng said calmly. ’Debts must be paid.’
"Ahem, Third Brother, Brother Rencai has come a long way. Let’s not keep him standing." With that, Jiang Jiedao calmly separated the two.
Jiang Jiehuan had intended to humiliate Wang Meng, but he hadn’t expected the kid to endure it so well. ’Still,’ he thought, ’his strength is even worse than the rumors suggest. He’s complete trash. I absolutely cannot let my sister marry someone like him.’
"Uncle, your nephew has also come here to gain experience and broaden my horizons. My given name is a single word, Meng. From now on, please just call me Wang Meng."
Wang Meng said.
The four of them nodded in understanding. ’So, it seems this guy knows his reputation stinks,’ they thought. ’Meng... "Fierce." He really knows how to pick ’em.’
"That’s fine. It’s more convenient," Jiang Biyao said suddenly.
Wang Meng nodded. ’It’s more comfortable using my real name,’ he thought. ’I imagine the Jiang Family doesn’t want his identity known to outsiders right now, either.’
In truth, the Jiang Family was quite powerful, and its younger generation was outstanding. Jiang Jiedao was mature and steady, managing the family business with impeccable order. Jiang Jiehuan was a master with a Fire Attribute Life Wheel. Jiang Biyao was a natural beauty, one of the most famous in Wang City, renowned for her intelligence. Her ranking in the Wang City Spirit Control Association was second only to Muhe Xiaoyu of the Muhe Family, and the two were known as the Twin Jades of Wang City.
Wang Meng was actually just admiring her purely, his gaze lingering on Jiang Biyao for a moment. In the eyes of others, however, that gaze seemed utterly lecherous.
"Ahem, my dear nephew, you’ve had a long journey and must be tired. Why don’t you go rest first? We can discuss matters later. Haha, there’s plenty of time."
Without waiting for a reply, he had a servant lead Wang Meng away.
"Second Sister, did you see his shifty eyes? The way he was staring, his eyeballs nearly popped out of his head. Want me to beat him up for you to blow off some steam?" Jiang Jiehuan said with a grin.
Jiang Biyao’s expression was strange. She shook her head slightly. "Father, I’m going to go rest now."
Jiang Shiqing waved a hand. "Go on, don’t fret about it. If he dares to bother you, I won’t go easy on him!"
’He’s an abandoned pawn, and I won’t let him take advantage of my daughter,’ Jiang Shiqing thought. ’But driving Wang Rencai away immediately would draw too much attention. I’ll wait. Dealing with such a worthless fool will be easy enough.’
’Damn that Kun Family! Once this is over, I’ll settle all our scores, new and old!’
Even though he was dozens of meters away, Master Wang heard every word from the main hall with perfect clarity. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’Damn it,’ he thought, ’my domineering, charming, electric gaze that can mesmerize the entire Small Thousand Realm gets called "shifty eyes" here...’
Back in her room, Jiang Biyao sat quietly. ’Why didn’t he tell on me?’
She had, in fact, already made inquiries about Wang Rencai. As soon as she learned what a despicable, lecherous young master he was, Jiang Biyao had made her move.
She’d had her personal maid, Wan’Er, intercept Wang Rencai on his way here. Playing on his arrogant, conceited, and disdainful nature, she had provoked him. As a result, the fool had actually gone to the Taiyuan Bone Land. The strangest part was that he had somehow returned alive. ’Could it be he didn’t go in?’
’But Wan’Er clearly saw him go inside.’
’That was one thing, but logically, after discovering what kind of place the Taiyuan Bone Land was, he should have tattled, or at least flown into a rage. Yet today he just brushed it off. A man with his history of vile deeds... he must be plotting something bigger.’
"Miss, what should we do? He really came back."
Little Wan was worried and afraid. All she knew was that Wang Rencai was a nobleman from Haojing, and her mistress had told her he was a villain who preyed on young women. And now, that villain had returned.
Jiang Biyao pondered for a moment. "Wan’Er, since he didn’t tell on me, I fear he intends to use this as blackmail. I need you to keep an eye on him for me. If you notice anything, you must let me know immediately."
Wan’Er, who was about thirteen or fourteen with her hair in two cute pigtails, patted her chest. "Don’t worry, Miss, I’m not afraid of him!"
Jiang Biyao smiled. "Be careful. The man is a total pervert. Just deliver his meals and take a peek at what he’s doing. You don’t have to do anything else. But remember, if he tries anything, you scream. This is Wang City; he won’t be allowed to run wild here!"
"Yes! We have to be careful and drive this bad guy away!" the little maid said, clenching her small fists.
Jiang Biyao nodded slightly, but she didn’t share Wan’Er’s excitement. ’Drive him away?’ she thought. ’Easier said than done.’
Recalling his long list of atrocities in Haojing sent a chill down her spine. ’But he’s lost the Wang Family’s support, and this is Wang City. I won’t let him do whatever he wants.’
Wang Rencai had arrived at the Jiang residence. Although the Jiang Family deliberately suppressed the news, those who were meant to know found out quickly enough. After all, the other three families were watching at all times.
This time, however, they were just waiting for the show to begin.
As the old saying goes, every field has its champion. Everyone wants to be number one, but deciding who’s first or second is truly difficult. Yet, when it came to the title of the Great Zhou Dynasty’s number one wastrel, Wang Rencai was the undisputed champion. No one challenged him for it; they couldn’t win even if they tried.
For the Wang Family, who had always prized pedigree and bloodline above all else, to actually kick him out... what glorious feats must he have accomplished to achieve that? It was surely a hundred times more difficult than just having him killed.
And yet, he had done it.
And this was the man who was about to marry Jiang Biyao, the Bright Pearl of Wang City. Could you believe it?
A beautiful flower was about to be planted in a pile of cow manure, a fact that was enough to drive countless other piles of manure insane with jealousy.
Obviously, some people were absolutely not going to stand for it.
At the forefront were Zhe Wulei of the Zhe Family and Wu Yuan of the Pill Immortal Alliance. Both were powerful and promising suitors of Jiang Biyao. Wu Yuan was a bit of an eccentric; as a new-generation Pill Master heavily backed by the Pill Immortal Alliance, he had come to Wang City, become smitten with Jiang Biyao, and simply refused to leave.
The two had already decided to teach this wastrel from Haojing a lesson.
Wang Meng was still unaware that he had become a public target. The Jiang Family didn’t neglect him; at least it was better than the wilderness, and he didn’t have to worry about food and drink.
"Old Horse, looks like you’ve decided to stick with me, huh? Not leaving?" Wang Meng said with a grin, looking at his sorry steed. The horse was now comfortably monopolizing the stables, having driven all the other horses out. The stable hands here were clearly aware of this master’s status and didn’t dare cause trouble, which worked out well for Old Horse.
He called it Old Horse because he knew the creature was at least five hundred years old. It was hard to say exactly what it was; it was likely unwell at the moment, probably from a severe injury—just like Eight Discount back in the day.
Old Horse snorted, as if to say, ’I’m doing you a favor by staying. Don’t mention it.’
Wang Meng just smiled. "Suit yourself. The gate’s wide open. But you’ll have to look after your own safety. I’m not exactly popular around here."
Master Wang didn’t mind the horse staying a while longer. However, it seemed the Jiang siblings wouldn’t be leaving him in peace. He could hide, but there was no guarantee they wouldn’t take their frustrations out on his mount.
Old Horse just shook its head and ignored him, acting like a primadonna.
Back in his room, Wang Meng flopped unceremoniously onto the bed. First things first, he needed to catch up on sleep. This body was simply too weak.
Wang Meng fell into a deep sleep, sprawled out on his back. A petite figure slipped past, silent as a mouse. In his dreams, Wang Meng began to drool.
Little Wan leaned against the wall, trying to calm her nerves. It was her first time doing something so sneaky. ’...But it seems this villain is just sleeping.’
Little Wan reported what she had seen to Jiang Biyao, who nodded.
"Miss, that lecher was even drooling in his sleep! I wonder who he’s harassing in his dreams."
In Little Wan’s mind, Master Wang had clearly been branded a villain, with no chance to defend himself.
Jiang Biyao still felt a little uneasy. It would have been better if he had just thrown a fit. The Jiang Family wasn’t afraid of him; they could have dropped all pretenses and just driven him out. ’What on earth is this man planning?’
It was better to wait and see. She would observe his actions first.
And what was Master Wang’s move?
There was once a sleazy fat man whose dream was to sleep until he woke up naturally and count money until his hands cramped. For Master Wang, just sleeping until he woke up naturally was good enough.
Master Wang had just been baptized by the Dao Laws, and this new body was incredibly weak. Furthermore, he had been caught in the middle of a fight between two experts; though he’d avoided the direct fallout, his body had still been battered by their auras. He truly needed to rest and recover.
Master Wang slept for three solid days.
When he woke up, he felt refreshed and revitalized, as if he had been reborn.
Master Wang knew how to read a room. His predecessor was, to put it mildly, someone even ghosts would avoid. That meant he was now also someone even ghosts would avoid. It was best to keep a low profile.
The only Cultivation Technique Wang Meng could practice at the moment was the Haojing Wang Family’s heirloom, the Merak Fire Cloud Technique. The Wang Family constitution was passed down through generations, each possessing the Supreme Fire Body, with some even surpassing their ancestors. But then came the oddball Wang Rencai, with a deficiency in the Five Elements. Still, the technique was passed down to him in the desperate hope of a miracle.
There was no miracle.
Wang Rencai was at the First Layer of the Profound Wheel Realm. Out of twelve total layers, he had spent ten years just to reach the first. Even a pig would have progressed further by now.
To be precise, he had once managed to break through to the Third Layer, only to fall back down again.
It was mainly because his bizarre experiences were so numerous that nothing was surprising anymore. Master Wang was worldly and knowledgeable; this Merak Fire Cloud Technique was truly extraordinary. Different planes operated under different laws, and the Cultivation Techniques here were naturally the best. For Master Wang, getting his hands on a technique of this caliber right off the bat couldn’t be better. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to Qidian to vote.
