Chapter 750: Chapter 750: Your Future Shouldn’t Stop Here
That night, an act of arson occurred in Aethelgard.
Overnight, the Golden Brocade Palace was burned to ashes. Dozens of luxury cars in the garage, with a total value exceeding two billion, were also all destroyed. The arsonist was Ethan Kingsley.
After that, Ethan Kingsley vanished from the face of the earth.
The explanation given by the Kingsley Family was that Ethan Kingsley was suffering from severe depression and had to go abroad for treatment.
As for the truth of the matter, only Claire Sinclair knew.
That night, Ethan Kingsley had sent her a message:
Ethan Kingsley: Little Cutie suffered her whole life. I’ve decided to burn some things for her, to give her a home in the afterlife.
Claire Sinclair: Why are you telling me this?
Ethan Kingsley: I don’t want to keep it bottled up. I just really wanted to tell you, and only you.
Claire: Why me?
Ethan Kingsley: You’re the person who understood her best in the world.
Claire: Alright.
Ethan Kingsley: I might be going into seclusion in the mountains for a while. I need you to keep an eye on the Kingsley Family for me. Some people there have dirty hands. If anyone dares to make a move, you write about it. Don’t be afraid to offend people.
’He’s changed,’ Claire Sinclair thought. ’He’s become more compassionate, not as arrogant and ruthless as before.’
Claire: How long will you be gone?
Ethan Kingsley: I don’t know. Depends on my mood.
Claire: I wish you the best.
Ethan Kingsley: Thanks.

In the blink of an eye, another month passed. Claire Sinclair’s back pain was finally cured, and only then did The Great Demon King Quincy approve her return to work.
Having been on leave for so long, Claire Sinclair hadn’t written an article in a while and felt out of practice. The week before returning to work, she stayed home and crammed by reading every issue the Astoria Daily had published in the last six months.
When she stepped into the Astoria Daily Press offices again, everyone stared at her in astonishment.
Claire Sinclair glanced around nonchalantly and noticed that only three or four of her old colleagues were left; the rest were all new faces.
Hughes, the graphic designer, exclaimed happily, "Claire Sinclair, you’re finally back!"
Claire Sinclair smiled. "Yes, I’m back. Where’s Teacher Hartwell?"
Hughes pointed toward an office. "He’s in there. You should go on in. We have a meeting in ten minutes."
"Okay, thanks." After thanking him, Claire Sinclair walked into the editor-in-chief’s office.
Henry Hartwell was sitting in front of his computer, clacking away at the keyboard. When he saw her enter, he only glanced at her casually before speaking. "Of all the times to show up... I don’t have anything to assign you today. Just have a seat for now. We have a meeting in a bit, and I’m getting the materials ready."
Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "Didn’t I tell you a week in advance?"
Henry Hartwell paused, then looked up at her. "I’m already fully staffed here. Do you remember what I told you last year?"
Claire Sinclair thought for a moment, then frowned. "Teacher Hartwell, I don’t want to go to the TV station."
Henry Hartwell sounded a bit helpless. "Staying here is just running in place. Going to the TV station would be a fresh start. Claire Sinclair, your future shouldn’t stop here."
Claire Sinclair thought about it and felt that what he said had some merit.
’Before I went on hiatus, netizens hyped me up as the number one female journalist in the country. But I had only written a few articles; I wasn’t actually that incredible.
’If I stay at the Astoria Daily, netizens probably won’t hype me up anymore. Instead, they’ll say things like, "The washed-up internet celebrity is back to chase clout," or "The has-been journalist is here to stir up trouble again..."
’Or maybe even, "The woman abandoned by the president is back!"
’Heh. I can already guess the dramatic, magnificent fate netizens have in store for me.
’How boring.
’But...’
