Chapter 623: Chapter 623: Falling into That Kid’s Trap
"But..." Bonnie Yates was clearly worried, unable to hide the concern in her eyes. "Editor Hartwell’s phone is off, he isn’t answering his messages, and he hasn’t updated his social media. There’s just no way to reach him. Aren’t you worried?"
Claire Sinclair smiled. "What’s the point in worrying about him? Teacher Hartwell is a legend at our newspaper. You don’t need to worry. Besides, why are you so worried about him?"
Bonnie Yates flushed, avoiding Claire’s eyes. "Editor Hartwell is our supervisor," she said, flustered. "And he’s helped me so much. I just can’t wrap my head around it."
Claire Sinclair had long seen what was on the young woman’s mind, but she didn’t call her out on it. She just smiled. "Don’t overthink it. Teacher Hartwell is one of a kind. Let’s just focus on our work and wait for him to return. Now, get back to it."
"Okay..." Bonnie Yates mumbled, still looking burdened as she left the office.
Theo Rhodes came in right on her heels. He shut the door, strode over to Claire Sinclair, and said anxiously, "Master, Hanson’s gone missing!"
Claire Sinclair shot him a look. "Don’t be ridiculous," she said, annoyed. "Teacher Hartwell isn’t that fragile."
Theo Rhodes paused, taken aback. "Master, do you know where Hanson is?"
"No," Claire Sinclair said bluntly.
Theo Rhodes raised an eyebrow. "Then how can you be so...?"
Claire Sinclair looked at his face and sighed. "I told the old chief about it," she explained. "He was very confident that Teacher Hartwell would be fine. He just told me to come back and handle things at the newspaper."
"So, you’re saying the old chief knows where Hanson is?"
"I don’t know if he does or not. Just don’t go spreading this around. We’ll wait a bit and see if Teacher Hartwell contacts us out of the blue."
Theo Rhodes nodded. "Alright. Whatever you say, Master."
He paused for a moment before adding, "Master, since the old chief didn’t even react to Hanson going to Woodforest Community, that must mean it’s not dangerous. How about I go check it out?"
Claire Sinclair shot him an icy glare. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Theo Rhodes pouted. "Master, aren’t you the least bit curious about Woodforest Community’s secrets?"
"I am. But I’m not going to let you throw your life away for nothing."
"But Hanson turned out fine, didn’t he?"
Claire Sinclair said, "Who knows what really happened to him? I just have a really bad feeling about that place."
Theo Rhodes immediately grinned. "And that’s exactly why I have to go check it out."
Claire Sinclair rolled her eyes at him. "I already told you no."
"Master..."
"And calling for the ’Grandmaster’ won’t work either."
An idea suddenly struck Theo Rhodes. "In that case, why don’t we take the ’Grandmaster’ with us? I’m sure the ’Grandmaster’ would love to clean that place up."
Claire Sinclair snapped, "You think the people at Quincy Manor have nothing better to do?"
"But if it doesn’t get cleaned up, are we just supposed to leave it there? Save it for New Year’s?"
"That’s none of your concern."
Theo Rhodes whined, "Master, what will it take for you to let me go?"
Seeing the stubborn look on his face, Claire Sinclair knew he wasn’t going to give up. "The old chief and Mr. Quincy," she said. "If you can convince either one of them, I’ll let you go."
Theo Rhodes clapped his hands and spun around to leave. "Alright! I’m off to talk to Uncle Hartwell!"
’Uncle Hartwell??’
A moment later, something dawned on Claire Sinclair, and she quickly called after him, "Who’s Uncle Hartwell?"
Theo Rhodes looked back with a smile. "The old chief!"
"You..."
"Wait for my good news, Master!"
The young man’s voice trailed off as he left.
Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ’Did I just fall into that kid’s trap?’
