I Married the President
Chapter 621: Call Me Husband From Now On
Chapter 621: Chapter 621: Call Me Husband From Now On
Ivy Tanner opened the household registration booklet. Seeing the names of her deceased parents inside, she felt a pang of heartache.
"I can barely remember their names anymore..." she murmured, closing the booklet.
"If you don’t want to be the tragic protagonist, make yourself strong so people won’t dare to bully you," Claire Sinclair said.
Ivy Tanner nodded, and silence fell between them.
Now that they had the ID card and household registration booklet, Claire Sinclair took her to get ID photos taken. Finally, she arranged to meet Lucas Rhodes.
With Claire Sinclair as their witness, Ivy Tanner and Lucas Rhodes successfully registered their marriage.
Before they left, Lucas Rhodes called Ivy Tanner aside, saying he wanted to have a private word with her.
Claire Sinclair was left to the side, waiting in boredom.
Lucas Rhodes looked up at Ivy Tanner’s innocent, lovely face and said in a low voice, "This marriage of ours is just a transaction. I won’t interfere with your life. However, you’ll need to play along with me in front of other people. And rest assured, the most I’ll do is hold your hand. If a kiss is ever necessary, I’ll try to just kiss your hand."
Ivy Tanner glanced at the back of her hand and muttered, "Can you even bring yourself to kiss it?"
Lucas Rhodes smiled faintly. "Just because I’m not into women doesn’t mean I have a phobia of them. I won’t find you repulsive."
Ivy Tanner grew tense. "So... you won’t... do something reckless when you’re drunk?"
Her question made Lucas Rhodes chuckle. He beckoned for her to lean in.
After a moment’s hesitation, Ivy Tanner leaned down, bringing her ear close to him.
Lucas Rhodes whispered something to her...
Ivy Tanner froze. She shot back upright and stared in disbelief at the elegant gentleman who, despite being without his legs, still possessed such a refined demeanor.
"You... that..."
Lucas Rhodes nodded.
Ivy Tanner finally let out a huge sigh of relief. "I’m so relieved, then. Thank you, Mr. Rhodes!"
"From now on, call me your husband. Don’t call me Mr. Rhodes, you silly girl."
"Er, I got it!"
"Go on back. Claire Sinclair is getting impatient."
"Okay! Goodbye, husband!"
Ivy Tanner scampered away happily.
Lucas Rhodes calmly began to wheel himself away. Ayla Ryan approached with practiced ease and started pushing his chair toward the exit.
By the time they got outside, the two women’s car was already gone.
Ayla Ryan couldn’t help but remind him, "Sir, now that you’ve married her, there are some things you can no longer stay out of."
Lucas Rhodes gave a faint smile. "If it wasn’t her, it would have been someone else. I don’t have the energy to deal with women. Ivy Tanner is a perfect fit."
Ayla Ryan nodded and said no more.

After leaving the marriage registration office, Claire Sinclair then took Ivy Tanner to apply for a passport. By the time they were done, the whole morning had passed.
The marriage certificate was too important for Ivy Tanner to keep, so she asked Claire Sinclair to take it with her.
Perhaps because they were both pregnant, the two women were completely exhausted. After having lunch out, they went their separate ways, with no energy left for shopping.
When she got back to Evergreen Garden that day, Claire Sinclair went straight to bed, planning to take an afternoon nap.
She habitually pulled out her phone and saw a message Teacher Hartwell had sent her that morning: ’I’m going in. If I don’t make it out, you’re to take over the newspaper. Go to my father if you run into anything you can’t handle.’
It was sent a little after nine in the morning, and it was already almost one p.m.
Claire Sinclair replied immediately: ’Teacher Hartwell, are you okay?’
She waited for a long time, but there was no reply.
She waited until nightfall, but still, there was no reply.
’That guy... Did he really just pull a disappearing act after leaving a message that sounded like a final testament? Is he trying to make me worry on purpose?’
