To make the act more convincing, Claire Sinclair actually took Ivy Tanner to the hospital for a routine check-up.

The results of the medical exam horrified them both.

Back in the car, neither of them said a word. Ivy Tanner, in particular, kept her head down, her face etched with worry.

Claire Sinclair had never expected this. But she couldn’t blame Ivy Tanner. Ivy had only attended school until the seventh grade and hadn’t even finished a single semester. She couldn’t possibly have known the basics about... that.

If anyone was to blame, it was that bastard Ethan Kingsley!

Claire Sinclair was dying to go find Ethan Kingsley and settle the score, but now wasn’t the time.

She slowly turned her head to look at Ivy Tanner’s face. "What are you thinking right now?"

Ivy Tanner gritted her teeth and said in a low voice, "No one else can know about this, or I’m finished. Help me buy the pills. I think I saw somewhere that you can take a pill to solve this problem?"

Claire Sinclair frowned. "Have you really thought this through?"

"I don’t know. My mind is a mess right now." Ivy Tanner bit her lip, feeling utterly miserable.

Claire Sinclair subconsciously touched her own stomach and said in a low voice, "Last year, I had a child beaten out of me. It was only two months along, and I didn’t even know I was pregnant. The whole thing devastated me. Not only did my health collapse, but it also left me with deep emotional scars."

Ivy Tanner looked at her in surprise. "Was it Young Master Quincy’s child?"

Claire Sinclair nodded. "Mr. Quincy was devastated too, and he punished the person who attacked me severely."

Ivy Tanner said slowly, "Is it only the person who loves you that grieves when you lose a child?"

Claire Sinclair sighed. "I feel like even the most heartless person wouldn’t harm their own child, right? You should at least let him know the child exists. This isn’t something you have to go through alone."

But Ivy Tanner fell silent. She didn’t trust that man at all, and she couldn’t begin to imagine the consequences if he were to find out.

’Maybe that man really is capable of it... capable of not even sparing his own child?’

When Ivy didn’t say anything, Claire Sinclair spoke up again. "It hasn’t even been a month since... it happened. You still have time to think. And don’t worry about the hospital—they’re all Mr. Quincy’s people. Word won’t get out."

Ivy Tanner looked at her, wanting to say something but hesitating.

"What is it?" Claire Sinclair asked.

"If word about my situation gets out, would it cause problems for Ethan Kingsley?"

Claire Sinclair hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

Ivy Tanner slowly lowered her head. ’Perhaps... I know what I have to do now.’

Ivy Tanner suddenly reached out and grabbed her hand, pleading, "Claire Sinclair, I’m begging you, please help me with something."

"With what?"

"I want to have the baby."

"What?" Claire Sinclair thought she must have misheard.

Ivy Tanner caressed her own flat stomach and said in a small voice, "Help me find someone trustworthy to marry me off to. Then I can have the baby."

"That will be very difficult," Claire Sinclair said.

Ivy Tanner bit her lip. "I know it’s difficult, but it wouldn’t be for Young Master Quincy. Help me. Please, I’m begging you."

Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, "Why do you suddenly want to have the baby?"

Ivy Tanner gave a bitter laugh. "Do you think I want to have a baby for a man like that? But if I don’t, they won’t just kill my baby, they’ll kill me too. Someone like me getting pregnant with Ethan Kingsley’s child... it’s a disgrace to both of their families. If I have the baby, I can use it to save my own life. Don’t you agree?"

As she said this, her eyes glistened with tears that stubbornly refused to fall. That was what made the sight of her so heartbreaking.
