Chapter 600: Chapter 600: Joint Petition

Mrs. Quincy’s cold gaze swept over Claire Sinclair’s face. "Claire Sinclair," she said, her expression blank, "let’s find a place to sit and talk. Adrian won’t let me into Evergreen Garden, so you can pick the place."

Claire Sinclair countered, "What do you want to talk about, Mrs. Quincy?"

Mrs. Quincy replied, "About you and Adrian, of course."

"Fine, I’ll talk." ’This was something she’d have to face sooner or later. Claire had no intention of avoiding it; better to resolve it now and save herself the trouble down the road.’

The two relocated to a nearby coffee shop. Mrs. Quincy had the entire place cleared out before sitting down to talk with Claire.

Before speaking, Mrs. Quincy took a black leather folder out of her bag and placed it in front of Claire.

"Take a look."

’What is this?’

Curious, Claire opened the folder. Inside was a document titled "Joint Petition."

The second page got to the heart of the matter. It stated that 258 members of the Quincy Clan had cosigned a joint petition demanding that Claire Sinclair divorce Adrian Quincy and be permanently expelled from the clan.

The reasons cited: Claire Sinclair had caused the death of Old Master Quincy, led to Yara Quincy’s amputation and subsequent ten-year prison sentence, and, most damningly, had angered Old Master Quincy to death.

The following dozen or so pages were filled with signatures.

Claire Sinclair grasped the gist of the document. She closed the folder, looked up, and asked coolly, "Mrs. Quincy, how much weight does this joint petition actually carry?"

"Unless Adrian is willing to give up his presidency, Quincy Manor will find a way to force him out of office."

Claire found this laughable. "Mr. Quincy is a man of such integrity and selflessness. How could you possibly force him out?"

"A just cause rallies much support; an unjust one finds little. You’re a journalist. You should understand this principle."

"And if I refuse?" Claire asked.

Mrs. Quincy’s face turned grim. "As for the child in your womb... no one can guarantee they’ll be born safely. Not even Adrian. He has no idea how many of my people are surrounding him. You won’t be able to stop us."

Claire’s eyes flew wide, and she trembled with rage. "Mrs. Quincy, that’s your own grandchild! How could you do this?!"

Mrs. Quincy scoffed. "My own grandchild? Do you really think someone like you is worthy of carrying on the Quincy family line?"

Claire was rendered speechless.

’She had a point. When someone despises you, they find even the air you breathe repulsive.’

Claire had nothing more to say to a woman like this. "I will tell Adrian you came to see me," she said. "Let him make the decision."

"Telling him will only disrupt his plans. The final push for votes is about to begin. If news breaks now that his mother and wife don’t get along, it will inevitably damage his reputation."

Claire gritted her teeth, then a smile spread across her face. "Since you’ve chosen to oppose your own son, Mrs. Quincy, I suppose that makes us enemies. Now, if you’ll excuse me."

With that, she rose gracefully and walked away.

Mrs. Quincy shouted at her retreating back, "Claire Sinclair, you might be able to take me on, but you can’t fight the entire Quincy family!"

’Claire just wanted to scoff. ’Whatever,’ she thought. ’Like I give a damn.’’

’I’m no pushover, either. Just you wait and see.’

Claire went back to the supermarket as planned and bought a lot of things, mostly daily necessities. For food, she only bought fruit; she didn’t even dare to eat snacks anymore.

When she got home, Landon Winston and the others busied themselves helping her carry everything inside. Claire walked over to the sofa and sat down.

As Mrs. Quincy’s words replayed in her mind, she found herself completely baffled. Why did the woman hate her so much? Enough to oppose her own son and orchestrate such a laughable petition.

’What could Mrs. Quincy possibly gain from this?’

’She couldn’t make any sense of it...’
