Chapter 598: Chapter 598: You Can’t Give Up Your Ambition for Me

’Looks like I’ll have to help keep my mentor’s pregnancy a secret,’ he thought.

Theo Rhodes looked at the young, successful couple. He didn’t say anything in the end, but he had already made up his mind.

Adrian Quincy lovingly stroked her hair and said softly, "Claire, don’t overthink things. Let’s go back and pack up first. We’ll head home a little later."

"Okay, let’s go up!"

Just like that, Theo Rhodes was left standing by himself.

’So I just got spectacularly ignored, huh?’

-

Because Claire Sinclair and Theo Rhodes had performed meritoriously, Henry Hartwell gave them a special three-day leave to rest at home.

That guy Theo Rhodes couldn’t sit still. He didn’t even take his leave, heading back to the news agency the very next day to find something to do.

Claire Sinclair, being pregnant, had the Great Demon King Quincy accompany her to the hospital for a check-up on the morning of her second day back in Aethelgard.

The doctor first asked Claire Sinclair for the date of her last period. She couldn’t answer precisely, only giving a vague timeframe: about two months ago.

So, the doctor suggested she get an ultrasound and also have blood drawn for a routine panel.

Deep down, Claire Sinclair trusted the doctor. Besides, with the Great Demon King Quincy’s people at this hospital, she had nothing to worry about.

Due to their special status, Claire Sinclair was taken to a private color ultrasound room for her scan. Even the doctor performing the ultrasound was one of Adrian Quincy’s trusted confidants, Dr. Lancaster.

Dr. Lancaster spoke as she performed the scan, "We can hear a fetal heartbeat, so we can estimate that you’re more than eight weeks along. Everything looks normal for now. Go home and take good care of yourself. We’ll check on the fetus’s development at your next prenatal appointment."

Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, "Is it a single baby?"

Dr. Lancaster nodded. "It’s a single baby."

A sense of loss, however small, settled in Claire Sinclair’s heart. ’Who wouldn’t want twins? It’s a shame my carelessness got them killed.’

’This time, I will definitely protect my baby.’

When Claire Sinclair came out of the ultrasound room, she was half-happy, half-disappointed.

Adrian Quincy walked over, took her small hand, and asked, "What did the doctor say?"

"The baby is over eight weeks along. It’s a single baby, and everything looks normal for now. But we won’t know if the baby is truly healthy until we have something to compare it to at the next prenatal check-up."

Adrian Quincy nodded. "Don’t worry. The baby will be strong like me and resilient like you."

Claire Sinclair lowered her gaze and said softly, "I just feel a little regretful."

Adrian Quincy soothed her, "We can always have a second child in the future. As long as you’re willing, I’ll give you anything you want."

Claire Sinclair looked up at him. "I’ve heard that having kids makes women age faster. I wonder if that’s true. What if I give birth and immediately become old and haggard?"

"If you become old and haggard, I’ll bleach my hair white to grow old with you."

Hearing this, Claire Sinclair laughed. "Even if your hair turned white, you’d still be just as handsome. But if I get all haggard, it’ll be hard to be beautiful again."

"In that case, I’ll resign from my public office, drop out of the race, and spend the rest of my life with you and our child."

Claire Sinclair immediately raised a hand to cover his mouth, frowning as she said, "You can’t give up your ambitions for me. I don’t want to be the woman who caused your downfall!"

Adrian Quincy gently took her hand away from his mouth. In a soft, gentle voice, he said, "Claire, I’ve never loved you for your looks. Don’t feel insecure about things that haven’t even happened. I will be with you until we grow old together, okay?"

"Alright... I have been overthinking things lately." Claire Sinclair admitted that she had become very sensitive recently. ’It’s probably the pregnancy,’ she thought.
