Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Big gift to the Blackmoon Kingdom

Chen Yuan, Chen Feng, and Chen Yan slowly returned toward the city.

The three of them moved through the sky above the ruined City Lord Mansion, overlooking the enormous city beneath them.

What had once been a prosperous cultivation city had already descended into chaos.

Buildings had collapsed across several layers, streets were covered in cracks and rubble, and figures continued fighting among the ruins against the demons.

Though compared to before, the number of demons had dwindled considerably. Chen Yuan’s gaze swept across the battlefield before finally settling on a familiar figure.

The Imperial Envoy was still fighting, almost slaughtering the demons.

Zhao Lianyu moved through the city like a streak of white light, her sword cutting through one demon after another. Every time her sword descended, a demon was torn apart before it could even react.

Her movements were precise, efficient, and clearly driven by rage. Unlike the other cultivators still struggling to survive, she no longer had to worry about anyone on the demon side capable of stopping her.

The five Foundation Establishment demons had been killed by the Chen trio. Zhao Mingyuan and Sun Qian had already been reduced to ashes, while the three High Lords had met the same fate beneath Chen Yuan’s burning fireflies.

There was no one left among the demons who could stand against an Imperial Envoy.

Yet the battle below showed no sign of stopping as Chen Yuan looked toward the enormous blood disk suspended above the City Lord Mansion.

"It’s a two-way teleportation channel... More like a gate. What an interesting concept."

Chen Yan rubbed his beard while holding the bell in his left hand.

"The demons’ path truly is odd. While we rely on spiritual energy, they rely on blood essence to achieve the same results in cultivation, alchemy, and even formations. I wonder how they were able to achieve it."

"Look, more are pouring out. It seems they have stationed quite a number of troops on the other side." Chen Feng pointed toward the blood disk.

"And they don’t seem to have noticed that their leaders have died..."

A continuous stream of demons poured through the crimson surface, falling into the city before immediately joining the slaughter.

Some crawled across rooftops, others descended onto the streets, while countless more simply waited around the formation, packed together in horrifying numbers as they waited for their turn to enter Great Yan.

Chen Yuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"Still coming..."

Even after killing the five Foundation Establishment demons, the invasion had not stopped. If anything, the number of demons entering the city was beginning to increase again after Chen Yuan’s initial cleansing.

Chen Feng looked toward the formation as well, his hand resting casually against the ancient sword at his waist.

"Then we should close the door."

Chen Yuan smiled.

"Before that, let’s clean up the mess they already made."

Immediately, he raised one hand.

The spiritual energy within his body surged outward. At first, there was only a single crimson-golden light.

Then another appeared.

The lights continued appearing until the entire sky above Blue Cloud Mist City was filled with them.

Flaming Fireflies, his signature technique that he had been using for decades.

Hundreds of thousands of tiny crimson-golden creatures emerged from the surrounding air, their wings beating rapidly as they released waves of heat.

They covered the rooftops, filled the streets, drifted between ruined buildings, and even appeared deep within the lower layers of the city.

The demons that were moving and fighting suddenly noticed them and looked up.

But it was already too late.

Chen Yuan slowly lowered his hand.

"Fall..."

The swarm moved.

Hundreds of thousands of Flaming Fireflies descended upon the city at once. The first wave swept across an entire street like a tidal wave.

A demon barely had time to raise its head before several fireflies landed upon its body. At the moment of contact, its skin blackened instantly, followed by its flesh igniting.

The demon screamed and clawed at its own body, only for dozens more fireflies to swarm around it. Within seconds, its entire body collapsed into burning ash.

The same thing happened across the city.

The crimson-golden swarm spread through every layer of Blue Cloud Mist City like an enormous living tide.

Demons crawled out from beneath collapsed buildings only to be engulfed by fireflies. Others tried to leap across rooftops, but the swarm followed them through the air. Some attempted to hide inside buildings, only to watch crimson-golden lights seep through broken windows and doors before filling the entire room.

The screams multiplied.

"AAAAAH!"

"GET THEM OFF!"

"RUN!"

Chen Yuan laughed as he watched these scenes unfold through his divine sense.

"For every human your race has killed, I will slaughter one thousand more in return."

The fireflies continued forward, and the demons began running across the city as if they had gone frantic. But what could they do? There were simply too many of them, and there was no one else strong enough to command them.

From above, the entire city slowly disappeared beneath a crimson-golden ocean. Chen Yuan did not need to move from his position.

His hand remained raised as his spiritual energy flowed continuously into the swarm. Every gesture directed hundreds of thousands of fireflies toward another section of the city, and every section they passed through became silent shortly afterward.

Across the city, the cultivators who were still fighting slowly noticed the change. One by one, they stopped.

A young cultivator who had been gripping his sword tightly suddenly lowered it as he stared toward the crimson-golden sky.

Another stood among the ruins of a collapsed building, his chest rising and falling heavily as he watched the swarm spread across the city.

The demons were running.

Those same creatures that had been chasing them through the streets only moments ago were now desperately fleeing in every direction.

Zhao Lianyu herself noticed the change as she recognized the technique.

"That’s the High Lord’s technique."

Zhao Lianyu turned her head and watched the crimson-golden swarm spread through the streets. Her sword remained raised in her hand.

The demons that had overwhelmed countless cultivators moments earlier were being erased by the thousands. Within a short period, the number of demons remaining inside Blue Cloud Mist City had fallen drastically.

Her eyes followed the enormous crimson-golden ocean moving through the sky as she noticed Chen Yuan’s figure.

"Did the three High Lords win?"

The question escaped her mouth before she could stop herself.

She quickly shook her head.

No.

If they had lost, they would not be returning like this, and the demons would not be fleeing.

The three figures approaching from the distance were calm and completely unharmed, while the five Foundation Establishment demons that had once controlled the battlefield were nowhere to be seen.

Zhao Lianyu’s eyes widened as the realization finally struck her.

They had won.

All the powerful demons had been defeated.

Her grip tightened around her sword as she looked toward the countless cultivators and mortals gathered behind her.

Many of them were still staring at the sky in confusion, unable to understand what had happened.

Zhao Lianyu suddenly turned toward them.

"The High Lords have won!"

Her voice spread across the city.

For a brief moment, nobody reacted, unable to process the meaning behind her words.

Then she shouted again, louder than before.

"The High Lords have won!"

The words echoed through the ruined streets.

The cultivators looked at one another, and their gazes slowly turned toward the sky.

Three figures were descending from above the city.

Chen Yuan stood at the front, surrounded by countless crimson-golden fireflies. Chen Yan followed beside him with the black bell in his hand, while Chen Feng walked through the sky with his ancient sword resting against his shoulder.

Someone suddenly raised his fist.

"We won!"

Another cultivator shouted.

"The High Lords won!"

Cheers erupted across the city. The sound spread from one street to another until the entire battlefield seemed to come alive.

People who had been fighting for their lives moments earlier dropped their weapons and looked toward the sky. Some laughed in disbelief, while others shouted until their voices became hoarse.

"We survived!"

"They defeated the demons!"

"The demons are losing!"

"We’ve won!"

Chen Yuan lowered his hand, hearing the cheers from below as a warm smile appeared on his face.

The swarm gathered behind him once again, and he slowly looked toward Chen Feng.

"Your turn."

Chen Feng smiled.

The three figures rose higher into the sky. Their gazes settled upon the blood disk above the City Lord Mansion.

The crimson surface continued rippling as the demons kept pouring out from the portal. Behind them were countless more, an endless swarm of decay.

Chen Feng slowly drew his ancient sword. The moment the blade left its sheath, a clear sword cry rang across the sky.

SHIIIIING!

Sword intent spread outward.

The clouds above the city parted.

The ancient sword trembled lightly in Chen Feng’s hand before he thrust it forward, and the blade entered the blood disk.

Nothing happened for a second.

Then, in the next instant, the entire teleportation formation shook.

BOOM!

The crimson surface rippled violently as sword intent poured into it from Chen Feng’s blade. The countless formation lines beneath the City Lord Mansion began glowing one after another, spreading outward through the ruins.

On the other side of the formation, countless demons noticed something was wrong.

The sword intent continued advancing into their land and crossed the gate’s entrance.

Then Chen Feng slowly raised his sword.

His expression remained calm.

"Let’s send them something they won’t forget."

The sword intent suddenly exploded.

Above the blood disk, the clouds were torn apart as a gigantic sword began forming within the sky.

Its blade pointed downward.

At first, only the tip could be seen.

Then, as the seconds passed, more of the blade emerged.

Hundreds of meters.

Five hundred.

A thousand.

The gigantic sword continued descending until its full length stretched across the sky like a mountain turned upside down.

The demons waiting on the other side of the teleportation formation finally noticed it.

Their bodies froze as they realized too late that the gigantic sword was already above them.

Chen Feng’s voice traveled through the formation.

"Hahahaha!"

"Heaven Severing Swordfall!"

The sword descended.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The moment the one-kilometer-long blade crossed through the blood disk, the entire teleportation formation violently distorted.

The crimson surface bent inward around the gigantic sword as if the space itself could not withstand its passage, while countless formation lines beneath the ruined City Lord Mansion flashed wildly before several of them shattered under the pressure.

Then the sword struck the land beyond the formation.

The world seemed to explode.

A blinding flash of crimson-golden light swallowed everything within sight, illuminating the desolate landscape as brightly as the sun.

The impact came a heartbeat later.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The earth beneath the sword collapsed.

The ground did not simply crack. It bent downward beneath the enormous force before violently erupting outward, sending entire layers of soil and stone into the sky.

Mountains surrounding the formation split apart from their peaks to their foundations, enormous slabs of rock being thrown hundreds of meters through the air before the shockwave shattered them into countless fragments.

The land itself began moving like waves.

A gigantic ripple spread outward from the point of impact, the earth rising into enormous ridges before collapsing again. One wave of ground followed another, travelling across the desolate landscape and tearing apart everything in its path.

Cliffs broke apart, valleys disappeared, and the force travelling through the earth was so violent that several distant mountains trembled before their peaks collapsed.

Then came the wind.

A monstrous blast erupted from the impact point and spread in every direction. It tore across the land like an invisible wall, flattening everything in its path.

Dust and shattered stone were lifted into the sky, forming a gigantic storm that rapidly expanded across the horizon. Countless demons caught within the blast were thrown away like insects.

Some were crushed beneath the collapsing earth.

Others were swept hundreds of meters through the air before being smashed into the ground.

Those closest to the sword did not even have the opportunity to scream.

Their bodies were erased beneath the overwhelming sword intent.

The gigantic blade continued downward.

Its tip plunged deeper into the desolate earth, carving an enormous trench through the land. The surrounding ground continued collapsing as the sword descended, creating a canyon that stretched farther and farther across the landscape.

The shockwaves continued spreading.

Even demons far away from the impact could feel the ground beneath their feet violently trembling.

Some fell to their knees.

Others desperately tried to escape.

But the destruction followed them.

Another wave of earth erupted from the impact zone.

BOOM!

A mountain collapsed.

BOOM!

The ground split open.

BOOM!

Another enormous shockwave tore through the surrounding land.

The sky itself seemed to tremble beneath the force. Clouds were blasted apart in every direction, leaving a vast opening above the battlefield.

Dust rose so high that it eventually mixed with the remaining clouds, turning the entire horizon into a massive storm of earth and debris.

And at the center of it all stood the gigantic sword.

Its blade remained buried deep within the land, surrounded by an enormous crater that continued expanding as the earth collapsed around it.

The sword finally stopped.

Silence did not immediately return.

The wind continued howling across the devastated landscape as enormous clouds of dust rolled toward the horizon. Countless pieces of shattered rock fell from the sky, striking the ground like rain.

The area surrounding the teleportation formation had been completely transformed.

A one-kilometer sword had fallen from the sky, transforming the earth within a ten-kilometer-wide area into a zone of destruction.

What had once been a desolate stretch of land was now a gigantic battlefield scarred by an enormous sword mark.

The ground around the impact had been flattened and reshaped into enormous waves of stone and soil. Countless demons that had been waiting to enter Great Yan had disappeared beneath the destruction.

Chen Feng slowly lowered his sword.

The enormous projection of Heaven Severing Swordfall began fading from the sky, leaving behind only the gigantic wound carved into the land.

Even after the technique disappeared, the sword intent remained.

It lingered across the battlefield like an invisible pressure, causing the surviving demons to tremble as they stared at the destruction before them.

"This area will remain a dead zone for hundreds of years."

Chen Feng rubbed his beard, laughing.

"Entering this zone will immediately kill anyone who dares to enter."

But Chen Yuan was not finished.

He turned his gaze toward the land beyond the teleportation formation.

The Flaming Fireflies began moving.

At first, they flowed toward the blood disk like a river.

Then the river became a torrent, and the torrent became an ocean.

Hundreds of thousands of crimson-golden lights poured into the formation. The moment they crossed to the other side, they spread across the land and went beyond the destruction zone.

The demons that had barely escaped the destruction looked up in horror.

What they saw was a crimson-golden ocean descending from the sky through the floating disk.

It covered the horizon almost endlessly as Chen Yuan poured almost all of his strength into it.

Chen Yuan then raised his hand.

The one-kilometer-wide ocean moved.

It swept across the land beyond the destruction zone.

Mountains disappeared beneath the swarm. Fields of demons were engulfed in crimson-golden flames.

They couldn’t even scream.

They couldn’t even run.

Under the Flaming Fireflies, all life was equal.

The fireflies poured between valleys, climbed cliffs, entered caves, and spread across the plains. Wherever demons had gathered, the swarm descended upon them.

A demon sprinted across a hill before the swarm caught up from behind. Hundreds of crimson-golden lights struck its back at once, burning through flesh and bone until the creature collapsed into ash.

Its scream was deafening as the flames burned through its body, the pain relentlessly assaulting it before its death.

Another group tried to hide inside a massive stone fortress, a stronghold where the demons had originally stationed their forces before sending them toward the portal.

The fireflies surrounded it.

Then they began entering through every opening.

The entire fortress soon glowed crimson-gold from within.

Seconds later, the stone walls collapsed.

The fireflies emerged from the ruins and continued forward.

From the distant mountains, the destruction looked like an enormous crimson tide rolling across the land.

Everywhere it passed, the demon forces disappeared.

Chen Yuan continued directing the swarm from the other side of the formation.

His immense divine sense allowed him to control his ocean of golden fireflies across an ever-expanding area.

At that moment, the entire Blackmoon Kingdom within his range was sent into panic.

Fifty kilometers of land were covered by his divine sense. Within that area, Chen Yuan’s golden fireflies moved from one location to another, relentlessly chasing the clueless demons across their own land, burning and slaughtering them.

Wherever Chen Yuan’s divine sense reached, the fireflies followed.

The entire demon settlements within those fifty kilometers descended into panic.

"RUN!"

"THEY’RE COMING!"

"GET AWAY FROM THE FLAMES!"

"AAAAAAARGH!"

The demons that had once poured confidently through the teleportation formation were now fleeing from the same direction they had come from.

Even dozens of Foundation Establishment demons attempted to fight back.

Some charged directly into the swarm, their bodies twisting unnaturally as crimson blood poured from their skin. Others gathered their blood into enormous waves and tried to sweep the fireflies away.

It was useless.

The difference in strength was simply too great.

Chen Yuan was a Peak Foundation Establishment cultivator, and his Flaming Fireflies had already reached Transcendent mastery.

The three High Lords had fought against him earlier, yet even they had been unable to escape once he combined his fireflies with Chen Yan’s control.

What could these weaker demons possibly do?

One Foundation Establishment demon managed to tear through thousands of fireflies before the swarm surrounded it from every direction.

Another released a gigantic mass of blood that covered the sky, only for the crimson-golden flames to evaporate it layer by layer.

Their resistance lasted only slightly longer than that of the weaker demons.

Then they burned.

Chen Yuan did not even need to personally attack them.

His divine sense stretched across the fifty-kilometer region, and his thoughts directed the enormous swarm with frightening accuracy.

Everywhere his consciousness moved, the fireflies followed.

Everywhere the fireflies went, demons died.

Hours passed.

The crimson-golden ocean continued sweeping across the land.

By the end of it, the fifty-kilometer region had been thoroughly cleansed.

The demon nests had been destroyed.

Their fortresses had collapsed.

Their gathering grounds had been reduced to scorched earth.

Millions of demons had been slaughtered beneath the relentless ocean of Flaming Fireflies.

The once-living land had become almost unrecognizable.

Ash drifted through the air like grey snow.

Chen Yuan slowly withdrew his divine sense from the devastated region.

Then a deep roar suddenly erupted from somewhere beyond the range of his perception.

"DESPICABLE HUMAN HIGH LORD!"

The voice shook the distant land.

Chen Yuan raised an eyebrow.

The roar continued, filled with rage.

"YOU DARE ATTACK FROM AFAR LIKE A COWARD?!"

The voice became even louder.

"DIE!"

The next instant, several terrifying attacks came crashing toward the teleportation formation from beyond the fifty-kilometer range.

The air trembled violently.

Even from where they stood, Chen Yuan and the others could feel the immense power contained within those attacks.

Chen Feng looked toward the incoming attacks.

"They finally noticed."

Chen Yan quietly raised the black bell.

Chen Yuan glanced at the blood disk.

There was no need to defend it.

"Let them destroy it."

The three of them simply watched.

The attacks crossed the devastated land at terrifying speed before crashing directly into the teleportation formation.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The enormous blood disk violently shook.

Crimson light erupted across the sky as the formation began collapsing under the combined attacks.

The blood disk cracked.

The cracks rapidly spread across its entire surface.

Then the teleportation formation shattered.

BOOM!

The connection between the two kingdoms was severed, and the remaining fragments of crimson light scattered through the sky before slowly fading away.

Silence descended.

For several breaths, nothing moved.

Then several powerful auras approached from beyond the ruined land.

A gigantic figure slowly emerged from the dust.

It was a bull demon.

Its enormous body was covered in thick muscles, with two massive horns extending from its head. Its hooves pressed into the scorched earth as it walked forward, its eyes sweeping across the devastation left behind by the Flaming Fireflies.

The bull demon stopped.

Its expression was unusually serious.

Fifty kilometers of land had been turned into a wasteland.

Millions of demons were gone, entire nests had vanished, and even dozens of Foundation Establishment demons had disappeared without leaving behind complete corpses.

The bull demon’s eyes narrowed.

A faint trace of fear appeared within them.

That fear quickly disappeared, replaced by anger.

It stared toward the place where the teleportation formation had once existed.

"This was the portal planned to invade the eastern region?"

Before it could finish speaking, another demon suddenly appeared beside it.

The bull demon did not turn its head.

"Send word to the front."

The other demon immediately lowered its head, and the bull demon’s gaze remained fixed upon the devastated land around him.

"Tell them to be careful."

Its voice became cold.

"Order every force on the front lines to retreat back to the border."

The other demon froze.

"Retreat?"

"All of them."

The bull demon finally turned toward him.

"Stop every attack."

It looked once more at the endless scorched land stretching before them.

"There is a very nasty human on their side."
