Chapter 640: Chapter 640 Suffering Builds Character, But I Would Rather Build a Fast Forward Button

The following morning, Lin Feng began the training of Hazel and Alexandra.

The two women arrived at the training area of the courtyard early, both filled with determination.

They had spent the previous night imagining what their first cultivation lesson would be like.

Perhaps Lin Feng would teach them a mysterious breathing technique.

Perhaps he would give them an ancient cultivation manual.

Maybe they would even be able to sense spiritual energy immediately.

Instead, Lin Feng simply stood before them with his hands behind his back.

"The first task is simple," he said.

Hazel and Alexandra waited expectantly.

"Stand there."

He pointed toward an empty area of the courtyard.

"That’s it?"

Alexandra blinked. Lin Feng nodded.

"You will stand there for an entire day. No sitting. No lying down. No leaning against anything. If you can’t even accomplish this, then you don’t possess the barest minimum foundation required to become a cultivator."

Hazel looked at Alexandra. Alexandra looked back. Both women couldn’t help smiling.

"That’s easy."

"I can definitely do that."

They confidently walked to their positions and stood straight.

Lin Feng nodded once.

"Begin."

The first hour passed almost effortlessly.

Hazel stood with her arms folded behind her back while Alexandra occasionally glanced toward the surrounding courtyard.

"This is supposed to be training?" Alexandra whispered.

Hazel suppressed a laugh.

"Maybe there’s something we’re missing."

"Perhaps we need to stand here while circulating spiritual energy."

"Lin Feng didn’t say anything about that."

"Then maybe the difficulty comes later."

They continued standing. The second hour arrived. The third followed.

The confidence they had possessed at the beginning gradually began to disappear.

Sweat had started forming on their foreheads. Their legs were becoming uncomfortable.

At first, neither woman wanted to admit it.

Hazel quietly shifted her weight from one leg to the other.

A few minutes later, Alexandra did the same. Neither mentioned it. Then another hour passed.

"This is harder than I thought," Alexandra finally whispered.

Hazel gave her a sideways glance.

"You said it was easy."

"I was overly confident."

Hazel almost laughed.

"At least you’re honest."

They continued.

To distract themselves from the growing discomfort, they began talking about random things.

They discussed Earth.

They talked about their experiences with Lin Feng.

They even speculated about what Lin Feng’s next lesson might be.

But the longer they stood, the more difficult it became. Their legs began trembling slightly.

Their backs ached. Their feet felt numb. The courtyard itself had become strangely quiet.

Lin Feng simply watched them. He didn’t encourage them. He didn’t threaten them.

He didn’t tell them how much longer they had to endure.

That was part of the lesson.

Cultivation wasn’t always about spectacular techniques or explosive battles.

Sometimes it was simply about doing something painfully mundane and refusing to give up.

Another hour passed.

Hazel clenched her teeth.

"How long has it been?"

Alexandra glanced at her.

"I stopped counting."

"That’s probably for the best."

Neither woman noticed that Lin Feng’s eyes contained a faint trace of approval.

They were struggling. They were uncomfortable. They wanted to stop.

But they were still standing.

And that, for their very first lesson, was exactly what Lin Feng wanted to see.

Everything went well for the first several hours.

But by the time the twelfth hour arrived, the situation had changed completely.

Neither Hazel nor Alexandra was talking anymore.

The playful conversations from earlier had long since disappeared.

Their entire concentration was focused on one thing... remaining standing.

Their legs trembled beneath them. Their clothes were damp with sweat.

Their breathing had become heavy, and every passing minute seemed to stretch into an eternity.

Hazel’s vision began to blur.

She felt as though her entire body had become unbearably heavy.

I can’t...

Her knees nearly buckled.

For a brief moment, she thought she was going to collapse.

Then a familiar voice suddenly sounded beside her consciousness.

"Wake up."

Hazel’s eyes opened wider.

It was Lin Feng.

The voice wasn’t loud, yet it carried a strange strength that immediately pulled her back from the edge of exhaustion.

She clenched her teeth.

"I’m still standing..."

Her legs were shaking badly, but she refused to let herself fall.

Lin Feng watched silently from nearby.

He had noticed the exact moment Hazel’s determination had begun to waver.

He hadn’t allowed her to collapse.

A tiny amount of his energy had quietly entered her body, replenishing some of the strength she had expended.

It wasn’t enough to make the training effortless.

It was merely enough to give her the opportunity to continue.

Another hour passed. Now Alexandra was the one struggling.

Her face had become pale, and her breathing was uneven.

She swayed slightly.

"Just... a little longer..."

She tried to force herself to remain upright.

But her strength was nearly gone.

Then Lin Feng’s voice entered her mind as well.

"Wake up."

Alexandra’s eyes immediately opened.

She recognized his voice.

For some reason, hearing it was enough to reignite her determination.

She straightened her back.

"I’m not giving up."

Just as he had done for Hazel, Lin Feng quietly gave her a small amount of energy.

Her exhaustion didn’t disappear completely. Her muscles still hurt. Her legs still trembled.

But she had enough strength to keep going. And that was the important part.

Lin Feng had no intention of letting either woman fail on their very first day.

If necessary, he could have restored their strength completely in an instant.

But that would defeat the purpose of the exercise.

He wasn’t testing how much energy they possessed.

He was testing their willingness to endure.

Cultivation wasn’t simply about possessing tremendous power.

A person could have the greatest physique in existence and still fail if their will was weak.

What Lin Feng wanted to see was whether Hazel and Alexandra would continue moving forward after their bodies told them to stop.

They had. Again and again. And that was why he was willing to help them.

Normally, Lin Feng wouldn’t bother personally supporting ordinary people through something so basic.
