I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 175: Earthing
Rango cursed, "This world is full of shit...."
"I should have known! I knew it was too good to be true that the other assholes back home let me come here first... Those greedy mutts would lend their wives to strangers if needed for a tiny advantage, not to speak of a mysterious world filled with treasures."
?Night nodded. He thought, Indeed, my friend, stupid you are. Who comes to such a fishy world with his wives? Did you think you are a Xianxia novel MC?
?The mysteries of this world confused even [Blaze], and he was old enough to call old monsters babies.
?Rango looked at Night’s understanding face, but somehow he felt like it was mocking him. Then he chided himself, The boy must be feeling sad for my situation. Ahem, hm, hm... that’s it...
?Night said, "Rango, that’s why I plan to form a team."
?Rango’s wolf ears perked up. "A team?"
?A team sounded good to him.
A team meant he wouldn’t suffer alone and, if needed, they could be used as a meat shield... Of course, he wouldn’t let them die; just use them to buy some time at a critical moment.
?Beside him, Vance and Victor also looked at Night with hope, while Argus had an enlightened expression but then his face darkened when he realised something.
However, Minerva looked at him in confusion; somehow, this situation felt awfully similar to the time he had asked her to work with him...
?The other Vampires behind them kept quiet, though there were powerful demigods back home, here they were small fries and had not right to interrupt.
They were especially fearful of Minerva, Hybrids were known to have a screw or two loose and they didn’t want to draw the her aim towards them, they were already plagued with bad luck since coming to this world.
?Night said, "Yes. You guys saw a glimpse of what is happening outside, and let me tell you, this was not how it was a few days ago..."
?Rango asked, "What do you mean?" He didn’t like were this was going.
?Victor chimed in, "I think he is talking about the day we clashed, right?"
?Night nodded. "Yes, that day I had traveled here in hopes of claiming a city." He looked apologetically at Argus.
?Then he added, "At that time, I barely encountered monsters at level 50 to 80."
?Everyone shuddered when they realized what Night was talking about...
?Minerva said, "So you mean to say the Dungeon Gates hadn’t started breaking yet, but now that they have, Demigods are running around like flies."
Still it was too much. How many gates had actually broken for this many Demigod monster to appear.
No the main question was how useless the natives were? Were they so bad that they couldn’t even clear some gates?
No probably the main question was... Were there even natives left on this planet or were there only monsters left...
These questions couldn’t help but circulate inside the otherworlder heads.
?Argus had a depressed look on his face. "First the invasion, and now the damn dungeons... Does the world wish for our deaths so much?..."
?"Are we not her children? How could she abandon us like this... We have always tried to take care of her in whatever ways we can..."
"We barely change the surroundings....We even avoid fights so thay the nature is not harmed..."
?"To leave us with no hope... Isn’t it better if we just kill ourselves...?"
?Night appeared beside Argus wanting to give a headpat but tapped on his arm when he realized Argus was too tall for his small hands to reach his head.
?Standing at 6.5 feet tall, he was tall enough to hit the header while walking through a door if he was not careful.
?The tap woke Argus up from his depression. "What?"
?Night said, "You and your clan can stay in the city again..."
?Argus shook his head and pointed at Minerva. "Even if I somehow make myself forgive her for killing some of my clansmen and stay here with you, what do you think will happen when the Demigod monster waves start targeting this city?"
?"I have lived here long enough to know that while the illusions here are robust and stealthy, monsters still manage to find it. And when they do, they rush in like there’s no tomorrow. My clan doesn’t have a single Demigod, myself included. We would die in no time..."
?Night sighed. What’s up with him...? Can’t he just see that as the monsters grow stronger, they can too...? He should only need a level to reach Demigod himself.
Whatever, time to put the daddy pants on...
?Night scolded him, "What are you moping about...? The death of your clansmen, I understand, but to cower in front of mindless monsters is low, even for a race like yours that practically lives underground...."
?Argus: "_"
?Argus was surprised by his choice of words, but he still looked the other way in shame.
?Night continued, "Just kill some of ’em and become Demigods, and if that’s not enough, help some of your clansmen while you’re at it... With this region, which you claim is the best place for you to fight, you would be able to easily defend it after leveling up..."
?Argus looked back and said, "But how do I kill a Demigod? Didn’t you see how strong they were? And their numbers...."
?Night then gave him a scornful look as he said, "My friend killed a Demigod, and she is just level 50. What excuse do you have?"
?Argus’s eyes widened. He grabbed Night’s shoulders, shaking him as he asked, "Which friend? Can she help us farm? I will be forever indebted to her... I am willing to be her servant...!"
?Argus had been depressed because he never expected Minerva to help him, and while Rango, Vance, and the other Vampires were strong, they were similar to him in strength, according to him.
That was why he had been depressed.
?But if it was one of Night’s friends, then there was a possibility of them helping. After all, he could trust Night.
?Night thought, ’What is with these people holding my shoulders?’
’Do they think i am some kind of mannequin or some kind of treasure chests that will drop coins if they shake enough? ’
?Night said, "Not just her, I can kill Demigods too. It’s just that after you become a Demigod, you have to help me defend the city..." He got straight to the point.
?Argus looked at him in half-shock, half-puzzlement. "You can kill Demigods?" Then he shook his head in realization. "Of course you can. It also explains how you subdued the crazy woman."
His gaze swept to Minerva for a second and then quickly returned to Night, as if afraid of provoking a hornet’s nest.
?Minerva looked at them and narrowed her eyes, but didn’t say anything. Because she remembered herself doing something similar to what Argus just did a few Chapters ago. (Cough)
?Night started, "About that..."
?Argus, however, interrupted, "No need to explain." He let go of Night. "I would prefer not to hear how you seduced her..."
?This caused Night’s lips to twitch and Minerva to crack her knuckles. It looked like she would beat Argus up if he spoke one more word about her.
?So, before Argus could commit such a stupid folly, Night quickly said, "So, are you willing to stay in the city? I will make sure to treat you guys fairly..."
?Argus nodded solemnly. "If you can help us advance, or even if it’s just me, then I promise we will become your most loyal citizens."
?Night smiled at this, then turned to Vance and Rango.
?They had watched his little ’persuasion’ talk with Argus, and they already understood where this was heading.
?Night was still too wet behind the ears for them not to know what he wanted from them.
?Vance said, "I am willing to stay," not bothering to ask his group.
Of course, even if he had asked them, they would have agreed; their burnt backsides had made them much more willing to work with the natives of this planet.
?’As for their mission of invading the planet?’
?Which mission? They really couldn’t remember...
?Vance continued, "But I won’t be of much help because of the suppression..." His gaze drifted to Minerva as he said, "Unlike her, I don’t have a way to bypass the suppression. And to make it worse, she already has my artifact. Maybe if she is willing to return it, I might be of some use."
?But Minerva immediately shot him down. "The artifact is not leaving my hands."
?Vance shrugged. "Well, then I’ll be as useless as my group was against the Demigods."
?Night thought, ’As expected, they are no match against Demigods while they are suppressed. I have to see if Minerva will share how she bypassed her suppression.’
?Night was just about to ask her when System Girl said, ’Night, I think I know how she bypassed the suppression.’
?Night asked, ’How?’
?System Girl replied, ’Bloodline.’
?Night clicked his tongue at his own stupidity for not realizing it sooner.
?Night thought, ’Of course! She can absorb bloodlines, and it seems she refined Earth Spirit Clan members during the fight, using which she must have become a native. As far as the world is concerned, Minerva is an Earth Spirit Clan member and thus a native.’
?’Besides, she has also refined a part of my Nightmare Mist as well. Though now that I think about it, isn’t she in trouble for absorbing my Nightmare Mist that is me?’
?While he knew she had refined it with the Blood Tower, his instincts told him it was not perfect, and he felt like he would be seeing the problem surface pretty soon.
?After some thought, Night asked Minerva directly, "Can your method be used by them as well?"
?Minerva wrinkled her nose and asked, "You ask as if you know how I bypassed the suppression..."
?Night smiled. "Of course, it’s simple." He gave her a wink and did a chewing motion with his mouth to let her know he knew her secret.
?Rango, Vance, Argus, and the Vampires looked shocked at Night.
?Rango whistled inwardly and thought, ’Flirting in front of us so boldly... Did my majesticness rub off on him somehow? That must be it, yes...’
?Minerva’s cheeks blushed a little. ’You little puppy, do you even realize what others might think...?’ She wanted to smack some sense into him.
?Still, she understood he was not flirting with her and knew what he meant by his action. And he was right, that was how she had bypassed the suppression.
?She had refined the bloodline of an Earth Spirit Clan member and become a native.
?According to the World, she was a resident of Earth and was now an Earthling.
And why would Earth supress an Earthling?
