I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 146: Trauma and Nighmare Fire
Wispr tried to move but her soul refused to respond. Since this was the case she decided to cut this portion off her. The process of turning someone into her puppet only required her to invade their souls using a fragment of her soul.
But when she tried to cut the connection, it failed as well.
Nooo!
Like how a plant absorbs water from the ground, the Nightmare Origin Tree put its roots into Wispr’s soul fragment and pulled.
To Wispr’s despair and Night’s amazement, Wispr’s soul was pulled right out of her body. When that happened the clone in front of her finally regained its senses.
As she was dragged, Wispr tried to stop but the pull was too strong. She wanted to beg for mercy but whatever the plant hit had frozen her soul making it impossible for her to speak.
And just like that a Devil Baron who was most likely a demigod had its soul pulled into Night’s Soul Space and the Nightmare Origin Tree wrapped its roots around it like a cocoon.
Just like that Wispr joined Alzebeus’s corpse in the ground.
Looking at this Night got curious. Closing his eyes he expanded his awareness and tried to sense what it was doing.
When his senses reached the roots he saw Wispr was already broken down and turned into a small ball of soul energy.
She was as dead as a doormat
What?
If I absorb this will my Soul purity increase?
Excited Night extended his awareness to Alzebeus’s corpse.
He saw it was dismembered into fine pieces and turned into a ball of flesh, and the Nightmare Origin Tree had extended small roots into it and was absorbing it from time to time.
Opening his eyes Night had a look of realization.
This must be why I do not feel hungry as I did before.
The Nightmare Origin Tree was constantly feeding on timely intervals, every time it looked like the Sin of Hunger would act up.
Night’s clone in front of Wispr’s body moved. Looking around he sensed hundreds of bodies huddled together and all of them laid unmoving.
Night looked at Wispr’s corpse. He then extended his shadow and dragged her corpse and put it beside the Nightmare Origin Tree.
The Nightmare Origin Tree felt more adept at this, and also the results were much better than him simply devouring using his Nightmare Mist.
Night focused his Domain on the bodies. He sensed faint pulses. All of them were near dead but not dead.
Though he was tempted to devour them all, he understood they were just victims of the Devil.
All of them were probably dominated and turned into puppets.
Looking at their fragile bodies, he didn’t know how to heal them.
Though Night had some of the most broken powers none of them were related to healing or saving people.
None of his friends had it either.
Today was a reminder that he needed to focus on that area too.
Still he didn’t want to leave them like this without doing anything to help.
After some thought he raised his palm and Nightmare Fire burned on top of it.
It was the blackish purple flames with small cute ghosts roaming in them.
He looked at it curiously. The flames had changed a little after he had devoured the Soul Fire skill. It had become much more refined and he knew intuitively it could do much more than refine now.
Originally it was a spiritual type of flame to begin with. As he looked at Nightmare Fire, he tried to understand what it could do. Since there was no skill window to tell him magically what it could do he had to do it manually.
It took some effort because it was the first time, but as time passed he understood.
He looked at it with a thoughtful expression. It can now give people Nightmares.
But how does that help with the current situation...
"Master what are you thinking?" Death asked in his mind.
It seems it was someone else’s turn to look after Sara and Anna.
While she looked careless, Death was someone who took her tasks seriously so it meant she was free now, else she wouldn’t have talked to him just now.
Night explained the situation.
He understood he could leave everything to Zora or the Dream City officials, but he wanted to try to see if he was useful as well.
Because right now he had the chance to pass the ball to others but in the future he may not have the same luxury.
He had saved them unknowingly and since he had saved them he intended to do so properly and not half ass it.
"How about you use it to remove their nightmares?" Death suggested.
"Yes I can most likely do that," Night exclaimed. "Death you are a genius!" he praised her.
It was obvious they would have suffered from mental trauma. They were not just harmed physically but also mentally.
While physical healing was out of his scope for now, maybe he could do something about their trauma.
Death shyly said, "Hehe... I am glad I was of some use... I am yours to use anytime... anywhere... Please use me more."
"Righttt..." Night trailed off.
Night sweated a little. (^_^)
That didn’t sound right at all. Something about the way it was said screamed FBI FBI FBI...
Night closed his eyes. Nightmare Fire poured out of him like a tide.
It expanded and covered everything in its way, when it came in contact with the bodies, it didn’t burn them like it would have done normally. Instead it entered their bodies through their pores and orifices.
As this happened, a wave of dark aura hit him. As it did Night felt a wave of negative emotions wash over him.
In his enthusiasm to help he had forgotten that the trauma had to go somewhere after it left the victims. This was another lesson for him.
It showed him helping or ruining others both had a price.
This much trauma would have broken his mind. Luckily when they reached him the [Sin Of Hunger] which had been silent all this while acted up.
Nightmare Mist poured out of his body. Covered in eyes and mouths they looked at the dark aura with glee.
Their mouths sucked and the dark aura that would have probably crippled Night was instead absorbed by the Nightmare Mist.
Night felt his mind clear, but his back was covered in cold sweat.
Holy mother of goddess... that was close...
As it happened the Nightmare Mist didn’t change but somehow it felt like it had become darker and more sinister.
Since everything seemed fine Night didn’t stop.
From afar the bungalow Night was in was covered in a blackish purple flame. In the nearby areas it stood out like a sore thumb.
But none of their ’neighbors’ took the initiative to come check what was happening.
As Night continued, he observed while the bodies didn’t change, he felt their expressions soften and the tension that had accumulated in their bodies all this time left and all of them relaxed.
They now had a serene expression on their faces.
While this was not a physical healing he still felt their health improve simply because the burden they had carried seemed to have lessened.
After Night felt like he had done enough he stopped.
While it was good to help with the traumas he felt if he pushed it too far they would forget about the experience.
While suffering a bad experience was bad, but forgetting a bad experience was worse.
Experience was the foundation of a person’s personality.
So he left some trauma for them to deal with on their own. This way they would learn from the experience.
Once he was done the clone left, while another clone that was being chased by thieves informed Zora about it.
...
Night moved through the city with increasing speed, but the group that was behind him was able to keep up.
After some time he managed to find a construction site that looked abandoned and he entered it. The others followed probably happy that he chose a secluded area for their meeting.
Night paused after he reached an open area.
Turning around he saw a bunch of people paused at a distance.
They were not stupid.
Judging from the way Night moved he always seemed to be aware of them and very time when someone from their group tried to cut him off en route, he would always act as if he had known about them before they even appeared in his vision.
And they had a guess why he could do it.
Spirit Sense.
It allowed a person to see everything in their surrounding area, like they had an omniscient point of view.
While not every evolver cultivated, almost all of them had at some point dabbled a little bit in cultivation to know what it was. And Spirit Sense was very popular because of how versatile and useful it was so almost everyone experienced knew about it.
Since they knew Night was no pushover. They decided to be cautious and let someone else probe him first.
And it would have been fine if only some of them had thoughts like that. But when none of the thieves moved for more than three minutes, it started to get awkward.
Night looked at this blankly and showed no expression, but on the inside his disappointment could be measured in liters.
So much for expecting someone to court death.
What a let down!
