Night realized [Dream] was kind of out of loop and didn’t know the heaven-defying thing he had just done...

He quickly explained as much as he could using as few sentences as possible.

[Dream] sighed. "Do you even realize what you have done?"

He guessed what he had done went straight into the territory of being labeled a taboo.

But he didn’t care. From the moment he held Sara’s half-destroyed body in his hands as her blood drenched his clothes, he had vowed that he refused to be weak anymore.

He realized that as long as there was someone stronger than him, his life, his friends’ lives, and his loved ones’ lives would always rest in their palms.

He promised himself that it didn’t matter what he had to do; he would do everything it took to become the strongest.

The feeling of someone stronger deciding your fate was far too bitter. Sara and Blade’s state was proof of what happened when a powerhouse decided you were an eyesore.

As of right now, he didn’t care if it was taboo or straight-up banned, he would do anything to become stronger.

Most of the inhibitions he previously held had dissolved completely with this incident.

This time, he was lucky he came across someone like Vivianne. What was the guarantee he would encounter a savior next time? Maybe next time, it would be permanent...

Just the thought of it was enough to bring him to the edge of madness. The only reason he was still sane was because he knew he was currently in a vulnerable state, and he didn’t have anyone strong enough to protect him if something happened.

"I don’t," Night reasoned, "but I know that if I didn’t do it, it would limit me a lot in the future..."

[Dream] didn’t berate him as he expected. Instead, she continued like a patient mother. "I understand, but I still want you to know what this means."

Night cut her off. "Can we hear the implications later? I don’t have much time, and there are two skills left." He knew he was being rude, the previous Night would have never done something like this, but the clock was ticking.

[Dream] paused, as if realizing the change in Night’s demeanor. "It’s okay, don’t worry about the time. I will help you with the Legendary Skill. As for the Divine Skill, don’t even bother with it. It’s not something you can eat right now."

"But..." Night started.

"I understand what you are worried about," [Dream] reassured him. "You just need to ask [Blaze] to take the skill back."

Night exclaimed, "Ah, is that possible?"

"Of course it’s possible," [Dream] replied. "In fact, it is his skill to begin with, not yours. When he made you his Chosen, he only lent it to you."

Night’s mood became weird when he finally understood what she was getting at.

"I mean, it’s completely normal for you not being able to do anything to it. In fact, it would be weird if you actually could eat his skill," she continued. "[Blaze] would probably file a copyright claim against you if you did that," she joked.

Night flushed in embarrassment. "I will ask him to take the skill back then."

"Good. Now, about the consequences of what you did..." [Dream] prompted.

Night gulped and waited.

"You know one of the biggest advantages you had over other evolvers?" [Dream] asked.

"I could gain skills by eating corpses, and also use my EV to upgrade and merge those skills," Night replied.

"I see you understand. But I also want you to understand one more thing..."

Night waited tensely.

"From now on, that will be impossible," [Dream] stated.

Night sighed.

He realized that in the pursuit of breaking the cage, he had also ended up breaking his own wings. Though he was outside the cage now, flying had become impossible. If you looked at it that way, maybe it was better when he had been inside the cage.

But he also understood that while the previous Night might have been satisfied with the safety of the cage, the person he was now would prefer to live freely, even if he was crippled in a way.

So, he was not too sad over the loss.

[Dream] sensed his inner turmoil and his acceptance, and she understood one thing...

Night had grown...

"Don’t be too upset about it, all is not lost. But you forgot one more thing," [Dream] added, trying to soften the blow before delivering the next one.

"What?" Night asked, confused.

"You even ate the skills you received from your Class. Which means you can forget about getting any future Class skills from the System as well." She landed an even bigger blow.

"Shitttttt...." Night complained. If he could move his physical body, he would be pulling his hair out right now.

He realized there had been no need to eat his Class skills, but he had done it anyway like a dumb idiot...

[Dream] giggled, finally getting a proper reaction out of him.

Night suddenly wanted to go back in time and smack his past self who thought eating his Class skills was a brilliant idea.

"Can I undo it?" Night pleaded.

"No," [Dream] replied bluntly.

He sighed heavily.

[Dream] giggled again and said, "And that was not the only thing you did."

Night suddenly started to feel a pit form in his stomach. "There is more?"

[Dream] added solemnly, "Yes. You made System Girl jobless."

Night went dead silent.

"She was sad when she felt the System had blocked the skills section, but she still remained hopeful that maybe in the future it would return to normal. But now?" [Dream] trailed off.

"Sorry...." Night whispered.

"You should apologize to her, not me," [Dream] scolded lightly.

"Yes." He understood it was a big deal to System Girl, especially after being locked up for so long and finally finding a host... only for the host to make her jobless.

She was probably questioning her entire existence right now. She should have sensed him eating the skills. The fact that she still didn’t stop him was already insane.

"Anyway, we can talk about the rest later. Now, about the Legendary Skill," [Dream] shifted the topic.

Night immediately became serious.

"Honestly, it is not possible for you to eat it directly," [Dream] explained.

"Why?" Night asked, puzzled. Didn’t she just say she would help him with it?

"Because it contains an Authority."

"Authority?"

"Authority, in common terms, is a right to command over something. In the case of this skill, it contains the Authority of the Stone Aspect," [Dream] elaborated.

"And Authorities cannot be eaten?"

"They can, but it is better not to," [Dream] cautioned. "Especially one coming directly from the System. It is much better to avoid it."

"So other types of Authority exist outside, completely unrelated to the System, that can be eaten?" Night guessed.

"Yes," [Dream] confirmed.

"So how are we going to deal with this skill?" Night asked.

"It’s simple. Since it came to you by merging lesser skills, we will demerge it and return it to its previous state. Then, you can easily eat the lower-grade skills," [Dream] said.

"How exactly are we going to demerge it?"

"Let’s leave that to System Girl."

As soon as she said that, Night felt a familiar presence.

Beside the Legendary Skill, a cute chibi version of System Girl appeared.

She looked so gloomy, as if someone had just killed her parents.

She didn’t say a single word.

Instead, she raised her chibi hands, and the Legendary Skill that had been obstructing him like the Great Wall of China crumbled.

A pile of small Common, Uncommon, and Rare grade skills appeared in its place.

System Girl sniffed once after doing it and immediately left.

I am so dead ( ̄ー ̄)

Night quickly got to work and ate the remaining skills.

Then, he searched for the spiritual link connecting him to [Blaze] and sent a message asking the Primordial God to take back his skill.

He didn’t receive a verbal response, but the Divine Skill rune floating in front of him shined brightly and then vanished.

Seeing his Soul Space utterly devoid of any System skills, he sighed in relief.

Night finally pulled his awareness back outside.

[Dream] looked at this and sighed. It was so troublesome to raise a kid.

When she had first sensed the impending deaths of Night, Sara, and Blade, for a moment, she hadn’t known how to react.

If someone like Blade could sense something like that, then [Dream], who was capable of pulling the strings of destiny as she pleased in her prime, obviously sensed it as well. In fact, she had sensed it much, much earlier.

She knew she could have avoided the whole situation entirely, but that would have just pushed the fated disaster into the future.

And it was common knowledge that pushing a destiny into the future was a surefire way to ruin any chance of actually overcoming it.

The further you pushed such a destiny away, the more dangerous it became.

Suppose your destiny was to get a paper cut on Monday, September 24, 2026. If you pushed it back to, let’s say, Saturday, October 24, 2026, just one month away, the chances were that instead of a simple paper cut, you would now be at risk of losing an entire finger.

It sounded ridiculous, but that was exactly how these things worked.

Avoiding it was a rookie move, and one she was not willing to play.

Instead, she had done the exact opposite. She had brought the destiny forward and made it happen before it was originally supposed to happen.

By doing so, she ensured that she had far more ways to manipulate the final outcome, the probabilities, and the various open and hidden variables.

By doing this, she guaranteed that what she wanted to happen happened, instead of what destiny dictated.
